Can Love Come From a Stranger's Heart?, chapter 3
Sabrina looked at Billie and then back to the man. "We have to get out of here!"
"There is no way of escaping her." The men repeated themselves.
"What is it, is it actually a tornado?"
"No way to escape."
"Sabrina, forget about them, we have to leave!" he said pulling her to the right and through another alley. "How far is the school from here?"
"Pretty far, the basement would be closed down there anyway, no one knows about it yet probably." She looked at him, his face was pale, she knew he was scared. "Billie, you're scared aren't you?"
"For you." He said looking at her. He turned and saw the dust coming towards them. "What is this, some kind of game?" he cried. "Tornados don't go after only a few people, and it hasn't tore anything up yet."
"Billie, look at that thing inside it!" he turned and saw a huge black shape spinning around and around. It was a house. "Where'd it come form, I haven't seen it around here before." he turned to the left and saw a ladder leading up to the top of some apartments. "Sabrina, hurry, you climb first!" he said pulling the ladder down. She did as she was told and he quickly followed. He looked down, after ½ a minute they were up two sets of ladders.
The tornado thing was still coming, but not very fast. Sabrina finally got to the sixth floor and was climbing to the top when he reached the fourth. "Billie, hurry!" He couldn't, the wind was pulling at his clothes making him go much slower, and he wasn't strong enough to keep going. He looked back at it and saw that it was almost to them. He started climbing as fast as he could and pretty soon he was on top with her. He grabbed her by the arm and pulled her to the opposite side and pushed her down, standing over her before sitting down with his arms wrapped around her chest and back. "Billie where is it?" she asked.
"Over to the right... coming back!" he was right.
The tornado was turning back to them. What the fuck is going on? Why is it chasing us? And where the hell did that house come from, I've never seen it before. He looked at Sabrina who was cuddled up with her head buried in his chest. She was horrified, and he couldn't comfort her now. He pulled her up and walked to the edge of the building, it was so far to the bottom and so far to the next apartment. Was there any chance of them surviving? He turned and looked behind him; the tornado was going the opposite direction. Why? He looked down at her and then up at the sky. The sun was out, but how? This was too weird, it should at least have one cloud, but it didn't have any at all. Sabrina pulled away from him and ran to the ladder. "Sabrina, what are you doing?!" he yelled at her. "We have to leave; we have to, have to, and have to!"
"I know, but wait! You'll get killed no matter what if you go!" he yelled over the noise of the windy tornado. "Sabrina, please, just listen to me!" he yelled, half begging.
She turned and looked at his worried eyes; he looked so serious, and hot. She looked back to the tornado and ran back to him, being pulled back to his edge of the building. "We have to find a way to get down, no matter what, we have to."
"How Billie, how are we gonna jump?"
"I don't know yet, but we will find a way." He looked around them and at a long wire stretching across to the building off to the right. "Sabrina, over there, we have to go that way, or we might as well kill ourselves now." She looked where he was pointing, then to him again. "Billie, we are as good as dead, you know that right?"
"Yeah, but we have a horrible chance of being good as dead if you listen to me." She looked back over and walked to the edge. "Wouldn't we have just as good of a chance by jumping down there?" she said pointing to the ground. "No, we wouldn't, now listen." He sternly told her. Man, when he wants to, he can sound and look freaky, she thought to herself. "Okay, okay, I will. What do we do?"
"You going or do I have to first?"
"How far, all the way to the top?"
"That's really the only place we can go, isn't it?"
"Yeah, but I can't climb to the top when I get to the other side."
"It's only two feet above the wire, and over, you can do it." He told her over the loud noise. She looked at him and then at the ground, could she do it?" he looked at her and tried to smile.
She reached forward and grabbed the line. As soon as she got hold of it she began to inch slowly off of the building. As she got to the wire she realized that she had got on it wrong, she couldn't hold her balance. She tried to back up but couldn't, as she tried she fell, holing on to the wire that was cutting into her knuckles. "Sabrina! Hang on!" she shook her head through the pain and held on even tighter. He reached forward as far as he could to her. She was only a foot away from the edge so he didn't have to go very far. He reached out and grabbed her arms, her not letting go of the wire. She wasn't ready to fall, not at all. She watched as he began trying to pull her, but she was too scared to let him. "Sabrina, trust me, please, give me you hands, I won't let go, I promise!" he yelled again. She felt a tear fall down her cheeks; he saw the horror in her eyes.
He had to get her back up. He grabbed her hand and made her let go, catching the other before she could fall. Minutes later he was pulling her back up to the top. When he got her middle over the edge she pulled herself up the rest of the way and landed on him, head in his chest breathing hard. "You okay?" he asked her.
"Yeah." She said still breathing extremely hard.
"I guess we'll be up here for a while." He told her looking around. He looked back to the ladder and sighed. He knew that that was the only way to get down unless he wanted to put her in danger again. Then he looked to the other building and then at her. He would go across and see if there was anything to get across easier. This was their only other choice besides to walk right into the tornado. "Sabrina, I'm going across, seeing if there's anything over there."
"Billie, no. Don't do it, you'll get hurt for sure, if not hurt, killed." She said in a worried tone.
"At least you won't." he said getting over to the wire.
**Billie's P.O.V.**
The wire may not hold my weight, and then she wouldn't be able to get away from here either. That's the only reason I'm doing this, to help her! I looked over to the other side and began to get on the wire. I felt a hand on my shoulder, so I turned and looked at her. She had tears in her eyes. "Billie, we can wait, I don't wanna lose you."
"You won't, I've had to do this before when my aunt left me in the forest to learn how to deal with life in the woods with no on around."
"And what happened?"
"I'll tell you after I get across." I said grabbing hold of the rope again. She was crying, I could tell from her ragged breathing. "Sabrina, please don't cry." I said without turning around. She wouldn't stop but she quit breathing like she had been and sat down away from the edge. I felt so horrible. I didn't like the idea of a girl that I loved feeling so bad. I turned and noticed her face was buried in her hands; she wasn't looking towards me or anything else except the pink of her small soft hands.
I turned back and held tight to the rope. Soon I was halfway across, still holding on, how I hadn't fallen yet, I didn't know. Sabrina screamed something but I couldn't understand her over the noise of the tornado. Then I felt something from the other end of the wire pull it down about two inches. I was sure she had tried to get on, but it felt different, I mean the wire wasn't moving as though someone else was on it, it had only gone down a bit. "Billie keep going, don't slow down!" I understood this time. Soon I was at the other end of the wire and almost close enough to the edge of the other building to reach the top when the wire went down about seven more inches. That's what she meant. The wire was about to snap at her end. I reached for the building but was too low to touch. I pushed myself up as far as I could and grabbed the edge and tried to pull myself up but wasn't succeeding very well. "Billie, whatever you do, don't let go!"
"There is no way of escaping her." The men repeated themselves.
"What is it, is it actually a tornado?"
"No way to escape."
