So Go Ahead and Kill Yourself! It All Amuses Me, chapter 13
Recap
6 hours later I happily skip into my room. Spotting a small box wrapped in black paper and a card, I sit down gently pulling both items onto my lap.
End Recap
The square box looks to be 13 cm's each side. Upon closer inspection I realize the black paper, seems to be sprinkled with glitter. Picking the parcel up, I shake it close to my ear. I can hear a rattle, but I'm unable to discern what it is. Getting ready to tear to paper off the box, the letter catches my eye. It reads:
My love...please read this before opening the present.
Weighing out the right and the wrong is harder than it seems. Do I read the letter first? Or do I open the present and then read? Finally my curiosity of the gift outweighed my judgement. Ripping into the paper I expose a wooden jewellery case. Opening the lid reveals the silver shine of a charm bracelet.
Six charms are hanging from the chain. One is a little cell phone. The second is a tiny guitar filled with so much detail; you could see the thin strings. The third appeared to be a single silver arrow. The forth was a custom-made American Idiot heart grenade. The fifth charm was a five-cornered star and the final charm looks to be a bottle of some kind.
Slipping the beautiful bracelet on my wrist, I admire its beauty for duration. Reaching for the letter this time, I break its seal. Sliding a piece of paper out from the envelope, I unfold it with shaking hands. The writing it beautifully written, meaning that it must have come from Mike, On account of the fact, that both my dad's and Tre's handwriting, is almost illegible.
It touched my heart that Mike had left me this beautiful present. A gift that I believe I don't deserve. I'm receiving so much stuff. I don't want expensive things. I just want my friends and family there for me always. I'm very fond of the things but I could live without them. As I begin to read this feeling evaporates leaving only longing in its place.
Dear Tasha,
You opened the present first didn't you? I know this because I know you and how much like Billie Joe you are. He would have done the same thing. Act first. Ask questions later.
I saw this bracelet and I thought of you. It sparkled above the rest just like you. It's cheesy I know. I picked out the charms myself, I hope you like them. They all have a special meaning. I wanted something that you could wear that would look innocent, but something I could look at you wearing and think. She's mine and she loves me.
The cell phone represents how far away I am when I'm not right next to you, just a few numbers. The guitar is for your band and how amazing and successful you are and will be. The arrow's a hard one to explain. You pierced my heart like cupids arrow. The heart grenade - well it's pretty simple. You are forever in Green Day's hearts. I decided on the five-cornered star because you shine. And the final one, it's a beer bottle. I thought it was cool.
Remember, we're all a few numbers away. Look at this bracelet and think of how much I love you. Always wear it and I promise I'll be there to protect you.
With all my love,
Michael Pritchard...forever your own Mike Dirnt
A pained tear stains some of the words, smudging them.
Gripping the letter tight for a second, I let it flutter to the floor like dead petals falling from a rose.
Meanwhile in Oakland...
