Falling for the Dying Girl, chapter 2
"Finally! There you guys are" Billie says, coming over to Tre and me with more paper in his hands.
"Yeah, we got erm, caught up" I say.
"Caught up with a girl" Tre adds. Billie doesn't seem to be paying any attention and immediatley thrusts the paper at us to read.
"It took me a while, but i've finally finished it" Billie says when we've both read the remaining part of the song.
"Great, shall we work on the music side of things?" I say, picking up my bass once again.
"Yeah" Tre says, suddenly beating the shit out of his drum kit.
"Woah Tre! What the fuck has got into you?" I shout over his banging.
"Just getting the rage out that's all" he says simply. I shake me head and start humming a tune and putting it to the bass.
We spend the next couple of hours messing around with the song, trying to get some sort of beat to it.
"Guys, i'm tired. I'm off to home if we have to get up bright and early for the hospital" I say, grabbing my jacket and putting it on.
"It's not untill the evening" Billie corrects.
"Yeah, but I want to get there early in the day so I can look around and get to know the people who we have inspired" I say.
"Fine, see you at my place about 10:00am then" he says, giving me a breif wave good bye.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow Tre" I call as I shut the door behind me.
The next morning, I arrive at Billie's dead on 10:00am, but as usual he's still not ready.
"Hurry up Bill!" I call through the bathroom door where I hear water running as he's in the shower.
"He'll be in there forever" Adrienne says, coming out of Jakob's room and onto the landing, where i'm waiting impatiently.
"Billie is such woman" Adrienne says, lauging.
"Tell me about it, when we're on tour he spends half the day in the fucking bathroom and he is always fussing over his hair"
"I do not!" Billie suddenly argues, opening the door and coming out with just a towel wrapped around him.
"Billie you could at least wrap a larger towel around you love" Adrienne says, smacking his bum.
"And you could not pat my bum when Mike's around" Billie argues back, giving her a peck on the cheek.
About 20 minutes and a cup of coffee later, Billie was finally ready.
"Right, off to pick Tre up then straight to the hospital" I say, saying good bye to Adrienne and heading towards Billie black SUV.
We drive down and pick Tre up, then as soon as we get to the hospital it's may-hem.
"Fucking hell! Move out of my bloody way" Billie says, griping the strearing wheel tighter as he loses his patience rapidly.
"What happened to the V. I. P thing in the car lot?" Tre asks from the back.
"They got rid of it, they say everyone's equal and that we should all be able to have a fair chance at parking" I state.
"The turds! No one is more special the Tre Cool! That's a well known fact" Tre sticks up for himself.
After driving round the parking lot about 5 times, we finally find a space and walk up towards the hospital entrance.
"Can I help you?" a lady says from behind a desk. She has glasses at the end of her nose and is looking at us as if we're trouble.
"We're here to open up the new wing this evening but we thought it would be ok to look around and get to know people" Billie says.
"Fine, but you will have to write your names down on this bit of paper" she says, pointing to a large spread out sheet and a pen to the side.
I can see the lady looking at us as we sign the paper, her eyes growing wide as she sees our names.
"Oh my god! You're Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool!" she shouts.
"Well that's what the paper says" Tre moans.
We head off down the corridor, talking to a few people untill we come to one ward that gives me the creeps. The terminaly ill ward. I sigh as I see people looking at me expectantly. All pale faced with red eyes.
One patient catches my eye. She has dark brown hair, fanned out over the pillow. Her chest is going up and down softly, her eyes shut as she sleeps.
I walk over nearer the bed to get a closer look. She has cards and a vase of flowers on the table beside the bed.
Their's something about this girl that is bugging me. I don't know what, but it is. It's like I recognise her or something.
I pick up one of the cards and read silently to myself. I almost drop the card with fear as soon as I read the name.
Skye.
