Hurt Beneath My Skin, chapter 3

Kat's eyes flickered quickly. There was a lot of noise around her. Screaming, yelling, frantic footsteps. She opened her eyes properly. Her dad was staring at her. He picked her up and placed her on the bed. She looked down at her arm. Blood covered the cuts. She heard the door opened and looked up. Paramedics rushed in and stood next to her. They began to ask her questions. She stared at them and then curled up in a ball, hands covering her face, groaning. Blood trickled from her arm to her cheeks. Everything slowly went quiet. She tried to open her eyes but couldn't. She felt people moving her, but couldn't hear them. Her eyelids wouldn't open and she began to get confused. All she could see was black. She tried to yell for her dad but her mouth wouldn't work. She felt a hand slip into hers and relaxed as she recognised the calloused skin. Slowly she faded away.

John sat on his sofa, grinning. His arm fell around the shoulder of his girlfriend. The young girl was scared. As he began to kiss the soft skin of her neck she did not object, letting him move his hands up her top. She tensed as he pulled the top off and began to tremble as he worked his way down to her skirt. She knew the girl on the TV was his ex but she was younger than her. After all, she was only thirteen, the girl on the Tv was fifteen. As John began to slip her skirt down she stopped him as shook her head, swallowing the lump of fear in her throat. He looked at her, his cold eyes boring into her.
"Why not?" he said softly, it did not make her relax.
"I... I'm not ready, I just don't -" His hand collided with her cheek. She gasped and fell backwards. She began to sob. His hand hit her stomach this time.
"Shut up," he growled, "shut up and do as I say." She nodded, not willing to experience anymore pain and his eyes softened. He pulled her in a tight hug. She sobbed on his shoulder.
"See? It's fine when you do what I say." He soothed, rubbing her bare back as his other hand slipped off her skirt.

Adie picked up the phone as it began to ring.
"Hello?" she asked, wanting the other person to go away, she had to pick up Joey and Jake and she still hadn't finished the ironing.
"Adie, it's Billie."
"Oh, hey babe, listen, now isn't really a great time, I gotta pick up Joey and Jake and then I gotta-"
"Kat's in hospital." Adie stopped.
"What? Why?"
"She... she cut." Billie choked out.
"Oh my god! Why? What happened? When? Why?" Adie grabbed the breakfast bar to stop herself falling over.

Kat's eyes opened slowly. She saw a group of people in a circle, talking. She couldn't hear them, just see their lips moving. One of them turned and his lips moved again. They all rushed to her. She could see them speaking, asking questions, one was pressing a button. She couldn't hear anything, she didn't know who they were. Someone else entered the room. He was dressed in a white coat, a doctor. He walked over to her and everyone else moved. He began to talk. Kat began to shake her head her eyes wide. She slammed them shut, screwing them up, hoping everyone would disappear. Someone was shaking her. She still couldn't hear.

"Why isn't she talking? What's happening?" Billie yelled as a nurse pushed him out of the ward. Adie was sobbing and Joey and Jake were standing by her, confused, watching their dad yell. Mike and Tre pulled him away. "What's going on?" he whispered as the nurse walked away. He looked through the glass window into the ward. The doctor was talking to Kat, she wasn't answering. He rested his forehead against the clear, cool glass and looked on. The doctor turned on the TV, without Kat seeing. She didn't acknowledge it. The doctor turned it off again and walked out, not bothering to say anything else to her.
"Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong... It looks like the medication we currently have your daughter on are causing a rare side effect.
"Which is?" Billie asked.
"She can't hear and I don't know if she can remember you," the doctor replied. Billie stood transfixed and Adie began to sob even harder. Billie looked through the glass again.
"Wills he get better?" he asked.
"I don't know, we are going to get her off the medication and see how things go, other than that we will just have to wait and see."

Kat sat in her bed, looking around, confused. Suddenly someone walked around the corner. They didn't stop as they approached Billie simply opening Kat's door and walking through. Billie yelled, "Get the fuck out you fucked up son of a bitch!" he screamed at the boy, but then stopped. Kat was smiling.
"John!" she squealed and embraced him.
