You bleed just to know you're alive (sequel to The one he would help), chapter 3
"You are going after her?!"
Adrienne looked up from her son Jakob's corn flakes. Joey were at school, and Jakob was still too young.
Adrienne were wearing black trousers and one of Billie's band tees. Her dreadlocks were hanging down her back.
"Yes we are," Tre answered, even thought the question most likely were asked to Billie.
Billie was checking out the new security lock on the door. He was going to make sure of that nothing happened to the rest of his family. After all, Mike was gone, and he was just like family. Tre were trying to pull on a small jacket. It was the very same jacket that he had been wearing the last time he saw Lina.
Billie came back from the door.
"Well, now you are safe." Billie said. He walked over to Adrienne and Jakob and gave them both a hug.
"where are you going dad?" Jakob asked and looked up at his father.
Billie smiled at him.
"I'm just going out for a little walk with Tre," he answered.
"Will uncle Mike come over soon you think?"
For a moment it looked like Billie were going to cry, but it could've been something else. He nodded to his son.
"He will be back before you know it son."
Billie walked over to Tre again. He was still trying to get the jacket on. Billie looked at him for a while.
"You wont get that to fit."
"I want to wear it."
"You can't even get it on."
Tre tried one last time, then he got very mad and threw it on the floor.
"I'll give it to Frankito," he mumbled and walked out of the house along with Billie.
Outside on the street Jason White, a friend of the band (I guess u know that) was waiting for them.
After so many years together, Green Day had become addicted to being three people, so they needed one more person to help them. And besides, Jason was pretty clever.
Billie had called him up last night and asked if he could do a little research on a girl they only knew name was Lina. Billie had also given him a pretty good description of the girl. Jason had told Billie that he knew a guy who knew a guy that could do the search for them.
Billie and Tre were now very exited to hear what their friend had to tell them.
"Hi," Jason said. Billie and Tre returned the hi and waited on the information that Jason might have. Jason began walking down the street, and the two others followed.
"the guy my friend knew didn't find anything interesting about this Lina you are talking about," Jason said when they had walked a couple of meters.
"But... ?" Tre said. He could smell a but in there.
"But he found another name. Susan McElroy , a friend of Lina." While Jason spoke he pulled up a picture of a young girl, at the same age as Lina could've been. Tre guessed they both were 19 or something.
Susan looked short, but it could be the picture. She had what you can call emo hair. It was blonde and had green stripes in it. On the picture she was grinning evilly into the camera and she looked pretty happy.
"So... If we find her, I guess we are pretty close to find Lina too." Jason finished. "She lives just a couple of blocks away. But I think we take a car."
"OK," Tre said. "I'll drive."
*
Susan didn't really want to let them in when they knocked on the door. It took a long time, but after a while was it Jason that managed to get her to open it.
When Billie, Tre and Jason walked through the house Jason noticed all the Green Day albums, something with the Ramones. There were some other albums there too, but he couldn't read what was written on them.
Susan led them out in a little back garden. There were yellow and white flowers all over the garden, and the grass was very green. Under some trees there were a little white table with four or five chairs, also white, around it. Before Susan joined the others around the table she went inside and got some lemonade.
"You have a pretty house here, is it yours?" Billie asked her.
"No, it's my grandparents. I just live here some months a year when they are travelling around the world. My parents live in New York.
Billie nodded to show that he had listened to what she had said and that he understood.
"So... what is bringing you to my place?" Susan asked after a moment with silence.
The guys exchanged looks. Then Billie spoke.
"It's about a friend of you, named Lina... "
Susan's face grew pale. She drank from her lemonade, but clearly forgot how to swallow right, cause she chocked on it. Jason hit her gently three times in the back. She could breathe again then.
"What about her?" she said, still catching her breath.
"We wanna know if you know where she is," Tre said, before Billie could answer.
Susan's eyes became watery. Maybe it was from the lemonade, maybe it was something else. She almost squeezed the glass in her hand.
"I don't know where she is." She said. Her voice was cold.
"Are you sure?" Tre asked.
"Yes."
Jason decided to try something else. He was sitting next to Tre and leaned over the table towards Susan who was sitting on the chair next to the empty chair that was next to Billie.
"Have you heard about the kidnapping that happened yesterday?" he asked.
Susan nodded slowly.
"Someone kidnapped Mike yesterday. We think that Lina might know where he is, and who that took him."
Susan's eyes were clearly watering. A tear found its way down her chin.
"Lina has been missing in over three years," Susan said. Quickly she wiped the tear away. "They think she is dead. Her parents were so sad when it happened. She ran out of the house after an argument, and she never came back."
This wasn't possible. She had been on their concert, Billie and Tre had seen her yesterday. Tre had seen her this night again, in his dream.
This they told Susan.
"No," she said. She shook her head. "Don't do this. I have been trying to face this in three years, don't tell me she is still alive. Don't give me hope now. It will be almost like loose her again if you are wrong."
"She is alive," Tre said. Tre looked directly at Susan. "She is alive, and she will help us find Mike. So are you. We just have to find Lina first. I know we will make it."
In the same moment Tre said that, Billie'ss cell phone rang.
*
"You got a letter?"
Adrienne nodded. She was sitting in the sofa. She was clearly in shock. She had cried, that was possible to see from the rests of makeup around her eyes.
Billie held around his wife and gave Tre a sign that he had to do the same. When Tre held her, Billie walked over to the letter that lay on the table. The back of some pictures were lying half out of the paper they were put in. Billie picked them up.
What he saw struck him as if someone had thrown a rock in his face. The pictures he saw was of Mike. The pictures he saw were horrible.
Adrienne looked up from her son Jakob's corn flakes. Joey were at school, and Jakob was still too young.
