Time of Your Life, chapter 1
I stared blankly at the doctor. "You mean even with treatment that cancer may never fully go away?"
"Yes. However we have had many cases where the radiation treatment prolonged their time with minimal side effects." the doctor further explained to me.
"So no matter which way I look at this I'm going to die?" I asked unsure of how to take this all in.
"Now you should consider your possibilities before going to the extreme-" he began but I cut him off.
"How long?" I asked staring out the window at the world I barely knew.
"Considering that we caught it at an early stage maybe a year." he sighed.
Without another word I walked from the doctors office and out to my car. Once in my car I couldn't see through the tears to put the key into the ignition. Gripping the wheel tightly I broke down right there. I was going to die and there was nothing I could do about it. I had barely lived only 25 with the rest of my life now taken away.
Later that night after forcing myself to stop crying I decided it was time I started to live. For what little time I had left. Step number one get wasted to get away from the pain.
On my way into the bar I bumped shoulders with a very attractive man with black hair, and amazing green eyes.
"I'm sorry I wasn't looking where I was going." he apologized obviously distraught about something.
He said nothing more to me, just walked up to the bar and took a seat. I took a seat beside him.
"What's wrong?" I asked straight out I didn't have time anymore to be shy.
"What?" he asked bewildered.
"I asked what's wrong?" I asked again.
"... I just finalized my divorce with my wife." he said after a while.
"I'm sorry to hear that... I didn't catch your name." I said.
"Billie Joe... Call me Billie." he said not looking at me.
"Well Billie I'm Marissa."
"So Marissa what brings you here?" Billie asked me.
I said nothing but ordered a drink. When I didn't answer Billie turned in his seat to face me, becoming curious.
"So Billie what do you do for a living?" I asked.
"... I'm a musician. I'm in a band called Green Day." he replied.
"I've heard of you." I said remember someone mention Green Day. I had been in and out of hospitals for so long I really had no time for my own interests.
"May I ask what is it that you do?" he asked becoming more cheerful as our conversation proceeded.
"Currently I am unemployed. Exploring a... Life mission I like to call it." I smiled.
"Oh and what would this life mission be about?" he asked.
"To many questions, let's dance." I said pulling him onto the dance floor.
We danced for the rest of the night. I loved how his body felt against mine, he wasn't a bad dance either. He was very tuned with the music, considering he was a musician. I became tired after a while of dancing and I could feel the pain start to settle in. Exiting the dance floor I gave Billie the option to stay at the bar for the rest of the night or come back to my place, I made it clear nothing would be happening we would just hang out. After all we had just met.
Once at my place, I stumbled in clutching my side. Billie helped me to the couch concern in his eyes.
"Are you alright?" he asked while we were seated.
"Yea I'm fine." is all I gave in return.
"Is there anything I can do for you?" he asked.
"No I just need to lay down." I said.
Billie moved a little so I could lay across the couch. We talked more with my laying on the couch and Billie sitting by my side until I feel asleep not even realizing I had done so. Little to my knowledge as I slept Billie draped a blanket over me and took a place to sleep on the floor.
