Time of Your Life, chapter 4
--Still Billie Joe's Point of View--
Melissa hadn't woken up yet. I still sat in her room holding her hand as a nurse entered the room to check her status.
"Nurse do you know when she'll wake up?" I asked concerned.
"Oh well considering her condition she is very weak so the healing process will take some time." she explained while picking up the clipboard.
"I'm sorry condition? What condition" I asked confused now.
"Oh her cancer of course. Poor thing refused treatment, it really takes a toll of your body." she said while checking a few things on the clipboard then leaving the room.
What? She had cancer and she didn't tell me. That's what all those prescription bottles in her medicine cabinet were for. I was angry she hadn't told me but more puzzled at the fact that she didn't want to have treatment. Why was she doing this to herself? In the midst of my thoughts Melissa began to stir from her sleep.
"Mm..Billie?" she said groggily.
"Huh?...uh yea I'm here," I said sitting up.
"What happened How did I get here?" she asked.
"I found you in your apartment unconcious so I brought here. They said once you woke up and felt up to it you could go home," I informed her.
--Melissa's point of view--
Oh God I feel horrible not so much in the pain department but I felt so weak. I hope Billie doesn't know anything. I felt well enough to at least make it home before crashing. Billie gladly helped me check out and drove me home.
"Thanks again for everything you did you really didn't have to," I said to Billie as we entered my apartment and I quickly took a seat on the couch.
"Oh no problem. How could I not," he said looking uncomfortable.
"So I guess I better be going." he said moving towards the door.
"Um Billie." I said quickly, running over to grab his arm before he left.
He turned around to listen.
"Would you um...would you mind staying here tonight? I'm just kinda afraid he might come back." I said alittle embarrassed.
"Mel the police said they caught him and he's in jail," he reassured me.
"I know but I'm still kinda scared," I admitted.
--Billie Joe's point of view--
How could I say no, she looked so scared and vulnerable. I nodded in agreement as she smiled in excitement that she wouldn't spend the night alone.
"Ok so I guess I'll take the--" I was cut off when Melissa almost fell, grabbing onto my arm for balance.
"Woo are you okay?" I asked taking hold of her.
"Yea just really tired. Long day you know," she joked.
I knew exactly why she was so tired, but I didn't say anything she had after had a long day. Maybe tomorrow. As she continued to get weaker I picked up bridal style and carried her into her room where I laid her on her bed. She gave a exhausted thank you before falling fast asleep. I drapped a blanket over her body and stood there watching her sleep wondering how she could go through so much and yet be so strong.
