When the World Falls Down, chapter 7

Recap

"She's probably one of the nicest people you will ever met, you better be glad you even got to meet her, much less make friends with her."

End Recap

I walked inside of 'The Outsiders' where everyone was in a circle.

"We playing duck, duck, goose or something?" I laughed. Everyone seemed to jump and Jason got up to help me with the food.

"So, what do we have here?" Mike asked while shuffling through the bags. I smacked his hand away from everything and pushed him away.

"Hey Iris, I need to ask you something," Tré said. He pulled me away from everyone so no one was in our conversation.

"What is it?" I asked politely as I could.

"I need your advice on something," he sighed.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing, nothing at all, but I want to know something, do you think I would make a good father for say, a young adult?"

"What do you mean?" I questioned, what was he talking about.

"Well I went over to the adoption center and I saw a girl that looked about twenty over there, I don't know why a girl like that would be over there and I was thinking about adopting her, what do you say?"

"I think you would make a great father," I smiled.

"Thanks, I needed to hear someone say that."

"No problem Tré."

The phone rang and after the second ring, Billie Joe picked it up.

"Hello?"

pause

"Yes she is, one moment." For being a rocker, he has good manners on the phone. Billie Joe handed the phone to me.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Is this Corporal Iris Jinx?" a male voice asked.

"This is, may I ask who's speaking."

"This is the General of the Marines, and I need to ask you a question and to give you some information."

I instantly straightened up to my stants of the normal private.

"Give me the information first sir," I said.

"Well Corporal, apparently you were supposed to be the corporal when you were eighteen, after all of those years, you are actually a Major General."

I almost fainted, major general! That was only one under the general of the marines!

"What is the question sir?" I asked him.

"Well Major, we need you to go back to Iraq for a year Major, do you agree?" he questioned. My gut got caught in my throat, a year!? Sure, I love serving the country but I thought after my purple hearts I was going to take a little bit of a break for about two years.

"Major?" the general questioned.

"Yes sir, I'll be there as soon as I can, but let me say good bye to everyone."

"Of course Major, I will see you in two days."

"Good bye sir."

I hung the phone up and started to cry. Everyone gathered around me and I could see the confused look on their faces.

"Iris what's wrong?" Jason asked me.

"Yeah, Iri, what's up?" Billie Joe asked. Iri? That was a new one.

"I'm Major General," I sobbed.

"But, Iris, that's great, why aren't you happy?" Joey asked.

"Because I have to go back to war! I have to go back to the place that most people think of is pure hell!"

"Why did you agree to go then? It doesn't make any sense."

"Sometimes doing the right thing doesn't make sense, Joey," I sighed again. I sniffed up snot that was running and accepted the tissue Molly offered.

"But that means, no Outsiders?" Battle asked. Everyone groaned as I nodded and wiped away my tears.

"Well then, when are you leaving?" Mike asked.

"Two days."

Tré muttered something under his breath and the feeling inside me wanted me to die. It was the most horrible thing I've ever experienced ever since being stabbed in the shoulder. It was heartbreak, I thought I had experinced it before, but not like this.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," I sobbed.

"Go, fight for the U.S., but don't expect us to welcome you back with open arms," Billie Joe snarled. What is with him? Does he have PMS or something because I'm getting pretty ticked at him.

"Listen Billie Joe, I'm not an attention seeker, try fighting in battles for just a week, try being stabbed in the shoulder, try being shot twice, try being home sick for over nine years!"

Everyone looked at me in shock, that's right, ten whole years I was there, I only came home to nothing, so I stayed, I was stuck.

"Ten years? Ten years you fought for our country?" Mike asked.

"I didn't fight for the country, I fought for you, I fought for these guys, I fought for freedom ok? Freedom takes sacrifice."

"Ten years though? Why ten years?" Jason asked.

"Because I didn't have anything to come home to, so why bother?"

"Wow, I don't care what Billie Joe says, I'll miss you ok?" Mike smiled. Tré and Jason nodded in agreement. I hugged Mike tightly and started sobbing.
