Serendipity Girl, chapter 11
Just as Joey told me would happen, Jay moved in with them again. Now school was about to start up again, hence ending such a bittersweet summer.
"Do you need a lift to school or are you taking the bus?" my mother asks as she slips on her shoes and grabs her purse on her way to work.
"I'm getting a lift with Joey," I call back as I take a bite of my toast.
"Oh yeah that's right, he has a car," I nod and sip my orange juice. "Well, I'm off, have good day at school."
"See ya," I say as I finish off my breakfast just as she leaves.
I go to the washroom and finish getting ready before grabbing my bag and heading next door. I ring the doorbell and Jakob answers.
"You're early," He says letting me in.
"Well your brother wasn't exact on details," I say following him into the kitchen.
"Oh hey Ana," Adie says as she pours herself a cup of coffee. "Did you eat?"
"Yeah," She nods as she walks out of the kitchen with her coffee. I sit at the kitchen table with Joey, Jay and Jakob. So many "J" names. Jay nods at me in a sort of hello. I look over at Joey who's nodding off. I kiss my boyfriend's cheek and he wakes up.
"Oh hey you," he says giving me a real kiss.
"You need caffeine," I say looking him over.
"Yeah," He mumbles as he gets up and goes over to the coffee maker and pours himself a mug. "Want one?"
"Sure." He pours me a mug as well then comes back to the table.
"I don't have to go to school, I don't have to go to school," Billie Joe sings as he casually walks into the kitchen.
"You have to go to work!" Jakob says in a lame attempt at a comeback.
"I love my job," He says smugly, "Oh hey Anna."
"Hey," I say as Joey hands me a mug of coffee.
"Are you excited about school?"
"Not particularly," I say shrugging.
"Please Dad, it's too friggin early for your perkiness."
"Did you hear that? I'm perky!" Billie Joe squeals. "Alright, well I've got to get going." He leaves the kitchen.
"You better leave soon or you'll be late!" Adie calls through the house.
"Now wouldn't that be horrible," Joey jokes.
"Yes it would," Jay says nodding, "We wouldn't be first in line to get our class schedules." I can't help but giggle.
"Let's just go," Jakob says being the first to stand up from the table.
"Yeah okay," Jay says standing up as well. I get up and put my coffee mug in the sink as Joey groans and gets up as well.
"Yeah, yeah, just because your girly friend is here doesn't mean we all want to stay here," Jakob states and we finally get a move on.
We pile into Joey's beat up car, I ride shotgun of course. Jakob keeps leaning forward to fiddle with the radio.
"Sit down for fuck's sake!" Jay says officially aggravated of getting assed in the face.
"What? Don't you love my perty ass?" Jakob teases.
"Not particularly."
"What about you Ana?" and just then I get assed in the face.
"Sit your fat ass down," Joey says pushing his brother away.
We arrive at school and we all pile out of the car.
"Fresh air!" Jakob screeches as he gets out of the car. "Now! To find Jenna!"
"Is Jenna is his girlfriend?" Jay asks as the three of us walk more composed into the school.
"Supposedly so." Joey says nodding, "It's the name he utters when he's jacking off."
"Fascinating," I say laughing.
"Talking about girlfriends..." Jay trails off as he separates from us.
"Her name's Kad."
"Okay then," I say laughing.
We get our schedules, then split up and I meet up with Lil.
"Where's Matty?"
"He goes to school in San Francisco," She says as she adjusts the shoulder strap on her school bag. "And Joey?"
"My class is at one end of the school, his is at another."
"Alright then, what do you have?"
"English with Machotti," I grumble as I look over my schedule. "You?"
"Same."
"Do you need a lift to school or are you taking the bus?" my mother asks as she slips on her shoes and grabs her purse on her way to work.
