Serendipity Girl, chapter 3
I spend a better part of my week with Joey (as he prefers to be called) and Jakob. Today we're stuck inside Joey's house because it's raining out and we don't feel like going to a public place. I found out the tattoo mommy's name is Adrienne but she prefers to be called Adie, she's really awesome.
"Hey girly, what movie do you want to watch?" Jakob asks.
"I don't know Buttercup, something violent." He grunts at the sound of his new nick name.
"How about Domino?" Joey suggests.
"I've never seen it." I say as Jakob takes the DVD out and hands me the box. "Oh bounty hunter."
"Yes, I hope you're not squeamish there's some dismemberment."
"Awe now you ruined the movie for me." I say as poke him in the ribs.
"I'm sorry." He says jokingly as he presses 'play' on the remote.
Halfway through the movie someone comes in through the front door.
"Hey boys, watcha watching?" a man who was probably in his late thirties asks.
"Domino." Jakob asks more amused by the movie.
"Who's this young lady?"
"Dad, this is Anna, she just moved in next door." Joey explains.
"Hi." I say nervously, Joey wasn't kidding this guy's arms were covered in tattoos.
"Hi, nice to meet you, I'm Billie Joe." He goes to take a seat next to Jake.
As the movie continues I can't help but to keep glancing at his arms.
"What's wrong Anna?" he asks smirking.
"I'm sorry, I find tattoos interesting and it's not every day I see someone with as many as you." he starts laughing as I turn red. He walks up to me and puts his arms straight in front of me.
"Got a good look?" he asks still smiling.
"Yeah." I say embarrassed as Jakob rolls on the floor laughing.
"Good, so now you can stop making me feel so self-conscience while I'm watching the movie." He says as he goes back to sit on the other sofa. "Jakob, get up and stop laughing."
"Right-o Daddy-o." he says as he shoots me an evil smirk.
"Weirdo." Joey mumbles into my ear. I glance at him and pretend to ignore him.
The movie is interrupted yet again by the sound of the doorbell. No one moves from their spot. The door bell rings again.
"Isn't anyone going to get that?" I ask awkwardly.
"It's just Tre." Billie Joe says shrugging. I glance at Joey.
"He'll let himself in." Joey reassures me.
A weird looking man with some sort of spiky hair thing going on walks into the living room.
"I lost my lucky guitar pick." He announces as he lifts up a sofa cushion next to Billie Joe, "Found it."
"Is he alright?" I whisper in Joey's ear.
"Yeah, it's Tre he's just a little eccentric."
"Oh Joey got himself a girly friend." Tre says as he messes up Joey's hair.
"Well not really." Jakob says like the smart ass he is. "She's just the neighbor girl."
"Oh sorry, my bad." He playfully forces Jakob out of his seat.
"Hey!"
"What's wrong Buttercup?" I ask teasingly.
"Stop calling me Buttercup!"
"Okay." I say as I see a smirk stretch across Tre's face.
"I'm sorry Buttercup, you can have your seat back."
"I don't want it now."
"Buttercup, I insist."
"Jakob wants the seat not Buttercup!" Jakob explodes.
"Buttercup, be nice, if Tre is offering you a seat, you take it." Billie Joe says laughing.
"Tre you might as well sit down, Buttercup can be very stubborn at times." Joey says evilly as he gets an angry glare from his brother.
"You're all being ass holes." Jake mutters as he leaves the room.
"Goodbye Buttercup!" I say as he flips me off.
"Hey, be a gentleman!" Billie Joe yells.
"Well I've had my fun I should get going." Tre says getting up. "Thanks umm what's your name?"
"Anna."
"Thanks Anna for coming up with a new source of entertainment." He says as he leaves happily.
"Anna, are you staying for supper?" Adie asks a little later on.
"Umm sure." I say casually as I glance at Joey.
"Okay, we'll be eating in a few minutes, where's Jake?"
"Buttercup went to pout upstairs." Joey informs her.
"Buttercup?"
"It's his new name." Billie Joe says casually.
"Oh you guys have to stop picking on him."
"We were just joking around." Billie Joe says in his own defense. "Tre might've taken it a bit far though."
"Well get your brother and set the table." Joey groans and gets up, I felt kind of awkward just sitting there so I get up and follow Joey into the kitchen.
"Jakob! We have to set the table!" Joey yells up the stairs.
"You're not supposed to help." Joey says as he takes a stack of plates out of the kitchen cupboard.
"You're Dad is silently mocking me." I say as I take some forks out of the drawer.
"What?"
"You know after the whole tattoo thing he keeps glancing at me."
"Yeah, he'll do that to you." Joey says as he heads into the dining room. Jakob stumbles in and grabs some glasses from the cupboard. It only takes a couple of minutes to set the table and the three of us head back into the living room, just to be called back into the dining room to eat supper.
Towards the end of dinner I excuse myself to go to the washroom. On the way there I pass by a wall of family photos. Billie Joe looked really young, practically a teenager in Joey's baby photos. Billie Joe still looks pretty young today, I mean for a guy with a seventeen year old son. There's another one that caught my attention, a family photo probably taken at some amusement park, due to the Nickelodeon logo in the background. They looked sort of over-dressed for an amusement park though. When I get out of the washroom I head back to the dining room and over hear Billie Joe talking.
"So are you going to ask her out or what?"
"Dad, it's none of your business." Joey mutters.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever you like her!" Billie says childishly followed by kissing noises courtesy of Jakob.
"Hey." I say as I walk into the dining room, "did I miss anything?"
"Nah." Adie says as Billie tries to conceal a smirk by putting his glass to his mouth. These people are officially the most amusing family EVER!
