Serendipity Girl, chapter 8

"I'm so sorry I didn't believe you!" Lil yells as I pick up the phone.
"Hello Jill, I'm fine thanks and yourself?" I say in mockery of her phone etiquette.
"Oh whatever." She mutters.
"What if my dad or someone answered instead of me?"
"Shut-up."

"Does your cousin know? I mean didn't you say she was obsessed with Green Day?"
"I didn't tell her." I say smirking.
"What do you think she'll do if she finds out?"
"I'm afraid, that's all I can say, she was like the ultimate teenie back in the day."
"Back in the day? You make her seem so old."
"Well she's older than me!" I say knowing full well how immature I sound.
"Anna you can be a real fruitcake sometimes."
"Cha whatever. I'm got to go fuck something, I'll talk to later."
"Fuck something? Sure you are." She says as she hangs up the phone.

I head down the stairs with a little upidee in my step.
"Where are you off to?" My mom asks as I slide past her.
"Next door, Joey's having band practice and I want to watch, or listen whatever." I say as I head out the door.

I ring the doorbell and Jakob answers.
"Jeez, you practically live here." He mumbles.
"Awe you know you love me Buttercup." I tease as he rolls his eyes. "What's wrong Jake?"
"Nothing, Joey and them are downstairs."
"Seriously man, what's up?"
"Promise not to laugh or tell anyone?"
"Promise, if I break it you can break my pinky."
"Cheesy." He mutters, "Okay well you know I was flirting with those girls at the skate park and you guys all teased?"
"Yeah dude, you're a serious flirt."
"I know, I know, but one of the girls well you know, I really like her but that's all she sees me as a big flirt."
"Oh."
"And I just called her and well she was telling me about this really hot guy she saw and well now I feel all shitty."
"So are the two of you friends?" he nods, "well than I suggest you be straight out honest, believe me Lil and I go around commenting on hot guys and trust me it means absolutely nothing."
"Hope you're right Anna." He mumbles as he walks away. I head downstairs where I hear the sound of drums being pounded.

"Hey Anna." Joey says as I walk into the room, I give his lips a quick kiss and wave at the other band members. "This is Jay," he points to the bass player, "Mark" the drummer "and Luke." He points the other guitarist.
"Hey, you were in my English class." Luke points out.
"Yeah." I say nodding as I go to sit on the ratty couch on one side of the room.
"Enough chit chat, I wanna play some shit!" Jay says anxiously. The four guys start laying a whole bunch of random songs, then move onto composing a song, they probably had already started, which was really interesting.

"Alright, now for a break!" Mark says as collapses to the floor and stretches out his arms. Joey comes to sit on the couch and wraps his arms around me.
"What d'you think?"
"You guys are awesome."
"That's because we all come from punk rock gene pools!" Mark says proudly. "Well Joey it's quite obvious, my father used to be in a punk band but now teaches guitar and bass, Luke's mother was a groupie-"
"Don't you dare talk about my mom like that!" he yells. "She was not a groupie."
"Your father was in a band and your mom met him at one of their shows, I think she's a groupie." Mark gibbers. Like it was in slow motion Luke puts down his guitar and leaps on Mark and starts punching him.
"Oh fuck." Joey says under his breath as he gets up and goes to pull Luke off, with Jay's help of course.

"Take it back!" Luke yells. "Take it back!" Mark puts his hand over his bright red cheek in pain.
"Fine I take it back, jeez you have to stop being such a pussy I was just joking around." Mark mumbles, infuriating Luke yet again.
"Just let it go." Jay says as he and Joey hold their band mates apart.

Billie Joe bursts through the door.
"What's going on in here?!" he asks angrily. Mark and Luke stop shoving to get at each other's throats so Jay and Joey ease up.
"He called my mother a groupie!" Luke says angrily.
"Alright, band practice is over." Billie Joe says stepping out of the doorway.
"Excuse me, but can I stick around?" Jay asks Billie Joe meekly.
"Uh yeah sure." He says sympathetically. Joey shows Luke and Mark out, while Jay picks up the bass and starts playing a random riff.

"So why are you sticking around?" I ask casually as I wait for Joey to return.
"I don't feel like going home." He says shrugging.
"No particular reason?"
"Not really." He says as he adjusts the setting on the amp. I knew he wasn't telling the truth by the way Billie Joe reacted to his request, there must be more to it, but apparently it's a sensitive issue so I decide to bud out.

"Sorry about that." Joey says returning to the room and sitting next to me. "Sometimes Mark takes things too far."
"You're telling me." Jay says rolling his eyes.
