The Promise You Kept (sequel to Angels Do Exist), chapter 1
My name is Seth.
I am currently 13 and confused at the moment. My mother, her name is Kiara, keeps pictures around the house of her around teenage boys. Everytime I ask her who they are she would just laugh and say, "oh them, just a memory."
There were only 3 boys, all familiar and I couldn't pinpoint their faces. There was one that I always loved, I was about 18 or 19 months old and I was sitting on the lap of a boy with reddish brown hair. He was smiling at me and I was sleeping soundly. There's one with another boy with brown hair, he was ruffling my hair and my mother gave him an evil glare. There's one that I couldn't stop thinking about, a guy in another picture. He was holding me and my mom was kissing his cheek. I wondered if that was her boyfriend, or my father.
I never met my father, he committed suicide before I was five, and I still don't remember anything. All I canremember is someone saying that his hair was like mine, which was black, used to be blonde like my mother, but it grew black. My mother is very pretty, young because she had me at the age thirteen for my aunt, but I stuck with her.
My favorite band is Green Day. Somehow I always think I saw their faces before, I don't know how, I just do.
I kept those two pictures in my wallet all the time, just in case I see those two people anytime. I got on the internet and looked around on the internet for anything interesting. I looked and saw Green Day was having a concert, tonight? I raced downstairs to ask my mom if I could go, since she paid for all the concerts I go too. I ran down the steps and tripped, sending me to flip down the last step. My mom was snorting with laughter when she saw I was fine. She handed me a envelope and said, "I'll give you a ride when I go to work." My mother was a coyote, I don't mean an actually coyote, but she worked at the "Coyote Ugly" bar they just put in where a disco club used to be.
I opened the package and saw a backstage to... Green Day! I smiled at my mother and hugged her, I don't do that often. I shivered, it was winter in St. Louis when it got cold, it got cold. My mother put her hands on my cheeks and smiled, my mother has powers I swear it. My body shivered then went warm and I was content.

"Come on, we're going!" my mother yelled at me. I ran down the stairs and flip on the last step again, I need to stop doing that. I didn't understand why my mother didn't have a boyfriend, all of my friends would always how 'hot' she was, she was only about 26, I guess she was attractive. She was the sweetest person you could meet, she was a man's equivalent of perfect in my friends' opinion. We got into the car, it was a Taurus SE, red and perfect for racing, sort of. "Pick you up later, call me when you're ready to come home," she said to me, I nodded and jumped out the car as it tore out of the parking lot. I laughed and headed in the stadium.
The concert was awesome! Billie Joe was rocking, same with Mike and Tre' Cool. I walked backstage, kinda nervously, about to meet my idols. I walked around backstage, a little intimidated but then I went to the room Green Day was in and almost fainted. They smiled at me and I shook their hands one by one.
"What's your name kid?" Tre' Cool asked me.
I shrugged, "Seth," I said timidly.
"Your so young, where's your guardian?" Mike asked, why would he care?
"My mom's working at Coyote Ugly at the moment."
"Is your mom hot?" Tre' Cool asked me while wiggling his eyebrows. I shrugged again, then I remembered the pictures in my wallet.
"I have an early picture of her," I said getting out my wallet. I showed them around, their eyes boggled out of their heads. Billie Joe whispered, "Mike, you don't wanna see this picture." Mike looked at him... "why not?"
"It's... Kiara," he said finally. I wondered what was going on, what are they talking about. All I can remember is I blinked and Mike was on the ground. Everyone was crowding around him. Billie Joe took Mike's head in his lap and started slapping Mike's cheeks (on his face) and was yelling his name.
"Mike wake up, Mike, bud not now! We can't explain this now! You just got over her, Mike!"
I was wondering what he was talking about? Did Green Day know my mother? Billie Joe looked at me and sighed. Mike's eyes fluttered open and I let go of a breath that I didn't know I was holding.
"Whoa, what happened?" he asked while rubbing his head.
"Mike buddy you fainted because of..." Tre' stopped. Mike nodded and sat up and put his arms on his knees and sighed. He jerked his chin my way and asked, "you're Seth?" I nodded, afraid that he even pretended like he knew me.
"Mr. Dirnt, how do you know my mother?" I asked, I didn't want to call him Mike, I didn't know him.
"Don't call me Mr. Dirnt, makes me sound old, call me Mike. And when I was a teenager, I moved here, to St. Louis, met your mom, I still remember her. Her faint scent of jasmine can still fill my nose and is her hair still down to her waist?"
I nodded, a little frightened. He chuckled and put his chin on his fist like a statue.
"Coyote Ugly you say?" he asked me. I nodded, Billie Joe and Tre' smiled at each other and starting to cheer. Mike got up and looked at me, "let's go!"
