California Sun, chapter 1

The plain trip from Australia to California had been long and as boring as hell apart from dodging the kid that almost puked all over me. Now I was deadbeat and half asleep in my dad's new company car one of the not-so-many perks of the big move to California for my dad's new job. My past life in Mt.Martha, Australia was actually pretty average I didn't have many friends, I didn't fit in and where I lived was as boring as hell so another perk about moving to California. Starting a new life, cause I reckon anything would've been better than my life back in Australia.

I had been in the car for about four hours after leaving the airport and had no idea where exactly my family was moving to but I did hear my dad mention to my mum something about a place called Berkeley so that gave me some sort of idea. "Honey, wake up we're in Berkeley now "Mum whispered to me as she gently shook me. "That's nice, now lemme go back to sleep "I grumbled.
"Well don't you want to know where you'll be living for the next few years?" Mum questioned.
I shrugged and opened my eyes and looked out the car window. I brushed away my messy dark brown hair from my eyes and looked at the orangey-purple sky lightened by a massive sunset. We were driving up a street which looked ten-times better than mine ever did. The car slowed down at a house number 86. I looked up at the house. FUCK! It was huge and had a beautiful front yard.
"Welcome to our new home." Dad announced.
"Fucking hell" I mumbled.

I almost fell out of the car since I hadn't been walking for ages but finally found my feet and grabbed my bag of "essentials" and mainly the stuff I didn't want to put in the removal van. I helped mum and dad with a few boxes and carried them into the house. I dumped the boxes that weren't mine and took mine up a massive staircase to choose a room. I left the one with the ensuite for my mum and dad and looked for a room for me. At the very end of the hallway was a room which looked awesome. I t had a window looking out to across the street and the room I swear to god could fit about seven people. Perfect for my drum kit I thought instantly. The roof was also sloped abit which I thought made it look awesome.

After choosing my room mum and dad made me unpack more stuff as I kept on getting lost in the house which agitated me. Luckily I didn't put my skateboard in the removal van so I decided to go for a skate but soon realizing how much time went by and it was a very dark night so I went back up to my room to unpack more stuff. I put up some of my favorite band posters mainly revolving round the Ramones, the clash and the misfits and operation ivy . My room still looked empty well since my bed and drum kit weren't in there just my posters a beanbag and my electric guitar and amp. I yawned and collapsed onto my beanbag and fell fast asleep scared yet excited about my future in Berkeley California.

I woke up to the sound of a truck reversing and the hot California sun bursting through my window. I let out a massive yawn. I went searching for the bathroom to see a messy medium dark brown haired girl staring back at me with smudged eyeliner since I forgot to wipe it off last night. I made my way down to find mum and dad instructing the dodgy ( well I think they are) removal guys placing our house hold belongings around and about. One of them had my snare drum and hi-hat. "I'll be taking those thanks" I snapped and pinched them and took them up to my room great one bit of my drum kit now the rest. I did my best to avoid the removal guys apart from receiving my bed, CD player and the rest of my kit. The removal guys were there until lunchtime and soon left. Finally I can look around my house without strange people in it. Pity I was wrong cause as soon as I made my way downstairs the unfamiliar sound of the doorbell came blaring through the house. "Great more people" Mum said rolling her eyes in frustration. Oviously she was sick of people here as much as I was. Mum opened to the door to greet two people a mother and a girl who looked round bout my age she was looking pretty bored and pissed. "Hey I'm Karen and this is Ashleigh .we just live across the street from you guys and since the neighbors on both sides are stuck up and can be bothered giving you a warm welcome we decided to" said Karen happily.

"Uh...hi nice to meet you two I'm Stacey and this is my daughter Tamara" She greeted warmly. I guess that was my cue to come to the door and say hi... I made my way to the door and said hi to both of them and had a look at them both. The mother was kind of tall with blonde hair and blue eyes and looked like an average mum who seemed really nice and Ashleigh she had black hair with red streaks and she was wearing a Ramones top with skinny black jeans bout fucking time there was someone I meet like me. While mum let them inside I decided to talk to Ashleigh. "Hey like your top" I complimented.
"Thanks like your accent good ol aussie accent "she laughed.
"Bloody brilliant isn't it?" I said in a hardcore Australian accent.
"So what made you want to move here?" she asked curiously.
"Well I didn't want to move here but my dad scored a massive job over here and well me and mum got dragged along" I sighed

"But I didn't like where I lived anyway it was boring and most the people where I lived were either skanks or bitches and I didn't fit in" I Added
"Good! cause I hate them type of people and I think they should rot in hell" Ashleigh said in an unusually bright voice.
"Would you like a tour of the house? Even though I'll probably get you lost in here"

"Nah I've been staring at this house and egging this house for the last ten years since I hated the old fuckheads who used to live in it". I laughed when she said this.
"Ohk I'll just show you my room then and if you throw one egg in here or on my widow I'll kill you in your sleep" I joked.
We went up to my room and I showed her around she was over the moon when she saw my CD collection ad posters.
"Wow! May I say you have an excellent taste in music and décor" She said in a posh voce.
"I know I have just no-one back home appreciated it"
"Well I think you'll fit right in with me" she said happily.
"by the way nice kit pitty I don't play the drums though I'm more of a guitar person"

I went and got out my guitar and amp out of my walking wardrobe and handed it to her.
"Let's see how well you can play on this then".
"you fucking got it!" . she plugged the guitar into the amp and started playing knowledge by Operation Ivy then I wanna be sedated by The Ramones then she got into this song that sounded awesome but I had never heard before but wow! She could play.

"Shit you're good" I exclaimed.
"Meh! I've heard better can you play much?"
"Nah I just muck around on that and just had it around since I had a band back in Australia with my guy friends it was called Riot at sundown"
"I'm not in a band I just play and learn songs from my friends who are in a band..Fuck! I should introduce you to them you'll like them and you have to hear them fuckin play."

"Maybe I should meet them so see if they're up to my expectations for a likeable band," I joked.
For the rest of the time while my mum was talking to Karen about life in Australia and showing her around me and Ashleigh talked and joked and laughed and dissed certain pop "icons " in the world today and we got along heaps well which was good. Finally a punk friend and someone I can relate to and get along with. Life in Berkeley might not be so bad after all.
