California Sun, chapter 3
CRASH!... "ARGH! What the fuck?" I yelled as I felt something heavy crash onto me, crushing me under the covers of my warm bed.
"Good Morning! Sleepy stoner person." A voice happily yelled in my ear. I opened and rubbed my eyes and saw Ash's face staring right back at me.
"What the hell was that for!?" I groaned.
"Well... It is 11:00am and I promised to show you round this shit hole called Berkeley so think of me as your wake up call." She said brightly.
"Are you on drugs? By any chance."
"Nope just some good 'ol caffeine."
"Uh... Caffeine is a drug" I corrected.
"I knew it! I knew Mike was wrong." She said snapping her fingers.
"Anyway I'm curious how did you get into my house?"
"Your mum let me in and she said she would give me pancakes if I could successfully wake you so guess who's getting a free breakfast." She said proudly.
"I'm going to get her for this." I muttered.
"So are you going to get up or stay in this dark room forever?" Ash questioned.
"Well since you're sitting on me and I can't get up I'll take option 2." I said sarcastically.
"That answer isn't good enough!" She said as she dragged me out of bed and opened my curtains.
I stood there for a while until she gave me a funny look.
"I do want privacy when I get dressed y'know."
"Oh... Yer sorry I'll go and get my free breakfast then!" She said as she skipped out of my room.
"God! That girl really needs to cut down on the sugar of coffee." I sighed.
"I HEARD THAT!" I heard Ash yell from down the end of the hallway.
I laughed and pulled out my Operation Ivy top and skinny leg jeans from my wardrobe and put my hair up and brushed down my side fringe. I didn't need to do much to it since it wasn't messy and was straight. I put some eyeliner on then made my way down stairs down to the kitchen towards the smell of pancakes.
"Ah! You're up early." My mum said brightly trying not to laugh.
"Yeah isn't it odd?" I said sarcastically as I saw Ash at the table chewing down some pancakes.
"There's some pancakes there for you as well." Ash said with her mouth full. I made my way down to the table and took two and started eating. I could only finish one when I was dragged from the table by Ash.
"Well thanks for breakfast Mrs. Tam's mum! " Ash said cheerfully.
"You did succeed a hard challenge of waking my daughter up so anytime!" My mum said happily.
"Bye mum I'll be back whenever." I said grumpily.
"Ohk have fun honey!"
Ash was still grabbing tightly onto my arm as we headed of into a direction I had no-idea where I was going.
"Welcome to Berkeley and I hope you enjoy your stay and hope you learn a few things on this tour guided by none other than me Ash Rolland. " She said in a plastic tour guide voice.
Well went up a few streets then a place which looked like the centre of town with people rushing around and cars rolling by.
"Now this is the town centre where practically everything is which means everyone goes there." She emphasized the word everyone bitterly.
"But not to worry because I'm going to places to avoid certain every ones." She said happily.
"By every one do you mean the popular skanks at your school?" I asked even though I already new the answer.
"Yeah! How did you know?" She said surprised.
"Well lets just say Australia and America aren't so different after all I know that a shopping centers can attract skanks like a fat kid to cake."
"So I don't need to go through much of the running into them sorts of people procedure then?"
"Nope."
"Good."
Ash showed me the good places to go to in town like Rod's Hickory Pit, Berkeley music and cd store, the pier, 7/11, Starbucks, Platos, Skate Park and the legendary Gilman St. Where she said I have to go to next weekend.
After she showed me around we went to Starbucks since she said she had people who wanted to meet me. We went into Starbucks and she pointed in a direction where I saw three other familiar faces and a couple of other people two of the people where in a loud debate.
"YOU CAN SO HAVE SEX IN THE SHOWER!" A blonde haired guy by the name of Tre yelled.
"No you can't my cousin tried it and he broke his arm." A person with black hair and brown eyes who I didn't know yelled back.
"YEAH WELL YOU'RE COUSINS A REATARD!" Tre yelled back.
"Have you even tried sex in the shower?" The guy asked knowing that he had proven his point.
"Well... Uh... No BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT! MY POINT IS THAT YOU CAN DO IT ITS JUST ABIT MORE COMPLICATED!" Tre yelled again this argument was heard throughout Starbucks and a few people were either looking in disgrace or listening in.
"Ahem! Nice discussion Tre and Cal to be having in a restaurant with kids sitting over there." Ash said brightly.
"HI ASH! But it's an important matter!" Tre protested.
"Tre I was being serious kids need to know weather you can have sex in the shower or not anyway that's not the reason I came here I've got someone I'd like you guys to meet she's called Tam and she's from Australia." Ash introduce.
"Oh hey I remember you! You're the Australian that was eavesdropping on us playing." Mike said brightly.
"And the one that I tackled" Tre added.
"Yeah Ash you're quite behind me met her last night." Billie Joe added.
"I haven't met her." The guy with black hair butted in.
"Cal you don't really meet much people but then again I haven't meet you so that makes me as bad as him by the way my names Maud nice to meet you. I've always wanted to meet an Aussie." A girl with green eyes and blonde hair said pulling me in for a hug.
"And my names Callum but you can call me Cal" Cal said shaking my hand.
"Yer Call no-one cares" Mike said laughing and everyone laughed.
"That's not true!" Cal protested.
"Anyway I'm just dragging her in here cause A) you'll like her cause she isn't a teenie she's one of usss! B) I knew you guys would be in here since you're all caffeine whores." Ash said.
"Oh yer buy the way THIS-IS-STARBUCKS-PEOPLE-BUY-COFFEE-IN-HERE" Billie Joe said as if I was an intergalactic alien who had just crashed in this planet.
"I know what Starbucks is you moron! They have it in Australia." I snapped as I whacked him over the head.
"Ow! Ohk I'm sorry... Damn you have a strong hit!" Billie Joe groaned rubbing his head while everyone laughed.
"Good she is one of us! Because she beats the shit out of Billie." Maud said laughing.
After talking about my life story in Australia (for the one millionth time) I ordered a white chocolate mocha and sat with my new friends and talked and laughed with them and really started to get along with them and talked a lot about drums and music.
"So Tam, are you going to come down to Gilman to watch us play next Saturday?" Mike asked curiously.
"Nah thanks I'll be right I prefer stalking you and listening outside Billie's house until I get tackled down by Tre it's cheaper that way!" I said jokingly. Billie, Mike and Tre laughed.
"Fair enough but we can get you in for free and it's less painful..." Billie Joe added.
"Ohk I guess I'll take that option then so I can boo you guys off stage and throw stuff at you" I said messing around.
"Did you hear that Billie? I think she's dissing us!" Mike said to Billie mischievously.
"I think she is and you know what happens when people diss us especially Australians." Billie said grinning.
"Let's get her boys!" Tre yelled. All three of them jumped out of their chairs and got the Starbucks chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon shakers and started pouring them on me until I was covered in it.
"Right! That's it come on Maud and Tam lets kick their asses." Ash yelled as we got our own shakers but took off the lids ready to get revenge.
"Grab a shaker Cal you're on our side." Billie yelled.
"Being sexist eh?" Maud said chasing Billie with the Vanilla shaker.
We began having a flavored shaker war between us with most people in Starbucks gawping in disgust or amusement. After a couple of minutes the manager came out and had a go at us saying how this was a restaurant not a battlefield and we got kicked out covered in Vanilla, Cinnamon and Chocolate.
"Well that was fun!" I said as we walked out of Starbucks.
"Meh they're used to us." Tre said seriously while licking vanilla off his arm.
I laughed while brushing off chocolate from my pants.
"Well that comes to show were all a bunch of crazy punks who scare people in many ways." Maud said laughing.
"Amen." said Tre and Cal in unison.
We bummed around Berkeley mucking around and receiving dirty looks from old people and some of the local skanks until the sky became and orangey purple and we all were heading in the residential area where Billie and Mike headed off in one direction and Tre, Maud and Cal headed off in another we all said "later" and
Maud and Cal said nice meeting you and all that crap. I made my way home with Ash when I got to my house then got dragged into a tight embrace by Ash.
"Bye Tammy! Glad to have a new mental institution escapee into the group see ya at school tomorrow ooo! It's your first day with your little school bag and your cut lunch." Ash teased.
"Oh great school." I said sarcastically.
"Don't worry you'll be right with meee!" Ash said cheerfully.
"That's what I was worrying about." I said jokingly as I went through the front door of my house. I realized I had three good days in a row as I entered my house to greet and explain to my parents why I was covered in vanilla, Chocolate and cinnamon powder. Knowing my luck my happy streak will soon be broken.
