Technicolor, chapter 1

Friday

Lacey Michelle Harrison moved her fingers along the six strings on her electric guitar, playing a song she wrote called 'Fate'. She stopped when she felt her cell phone vibrate. She looked at her caller I. D. And smiled when she saw that it was her best friend, Adam.

Pause. Here's a little background note. Lacey had met Adam Smith when they were in fifth grade, and they're in they're senior year. Adam means everything to Lacey. She didn't know what she would do without him, because he was like her guardian angel.

We're still on pause here. Okay, I'll describe the characters for you. 17 years old, Lacey has dark brown hair, she's 5'8", and she has beautiful Eden eyes. She's a little pale, but that's because she's in her bedroom a lot, which is very dark.

Adam Gerard Smith has dark brown side swept hair and deep brown eyes. He's 6'0", and he's 17. He has fair skin... He's not outside much. When he is, he's walking home from school, or traveling from his house to Lacey's. She's his only friend, and he's Lacey's only friend, and they're inseparable.

Have you had enough info? Okay. That's good. Now I can get back to the story. Play.

"Hey." Lacey said.
"Hi." Adam said.
"What's up?"
"Ah not much. I was wondering what you were up to."
"Not much. I was just playing my 'geetar. '"
"Ah. Well do you wanna come over?"
"Yeah. Sure."
"Okay."
"So... I'll be over soon."
"'K, Lace. Byyee."
"Bye bye."

Lacey hung up her phone and set her guitar back on the stand. She pulled on her Jack Skellington head hoodie, zipped it up, and walked downstairs. "Mom, dad, I'm going to Adam's." She yelled. "Okay." Her mom replied. Lacey opened the heavy front door and was blasted with a gust of cold air from the October chill. She put her free hand into her front pocket and closed the door again. She grabbed her purple mountain bike off of the ground and hopped on it, rode it off the sidewalk and peddled to Adam's house.

When she rode onto the dead lawn of the Smiths' she jumped off of her bike she stumbled onto the porch and knocked on the door. She waited a minute, and then the door opened. She smiled when she saw Adam and hugged him. "Jeez, Lace, you act like you haven't seen me in a long time." He said, hugging her back. "No, I just like your hugs." She said. "Awe. I'm loved." He laughed. "Yes. You are." She replied, kissing his cheek.

"Hi mom." Lacey said to Mrs. Smith. "Hey Lacey." She smiled at her, and Lacey and Adam went upstairs to his TV/game room. "Do you wanna play game cube?" He asked, and Lacey nodded. "I'm first player." She said, grabbing the controller. "Okie dokie." He replied, grabbing the second player controller. Lacey picked up 'Mortal Combat: Deadly Alliance' and handed it to Adam. "This game is really gory, Lace."

"And?" She said raising her eyebrows. "Never mind." Adam said, putting the game in. She pulled off her hoodie and popped her fingers.

An hour later, Lacey was jumping up and down and saying, "I beat you!" Adam rolled his eyes and smirked. "Do you want something to drink?" He asked her, and she nodded. "My gosh, Lace. Calm down." He said, laughing, while Lacey was doing her little victory dance, which consisted of random movements. Adam came back up a minute later with two sodas, and he rolled his eyes again when she got hyper for the soda. "I'm giving you a new nickname." He said. "Oh?" Lacey sat down on a chair. "Twitchy."

"You watched 'Hoodwinked' didn't you?" She asked. "With Lucy, yeah."

Pause, again. Sorry. I forgot to mention Lucy. Lucy was Adam's little sister, who was only about 8. She looked like a miniature girl version of Adam, her hair was just longer. Yeah. Lucy is a really sweet girl that loves Lacey like a sister. She's 4'4" and loves to hang out with Adam and Lacey. Okay. Play.

"Lacey!" She heard Lucy yell. "Lulu!" Lacey yelled back. Lucy ran up to her, and hugged her. Lacey set her soda on the table next to her and hugged little Lucy back. "What time is it, Adam?" She asked, letting Lucy go. "Like five thirty." He replied, switching the game screen to the movie/channel screen. He put 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' in the DVD player and sent Lucy into the other room. Lacey jumped onto the couch in front of the TV and laid her head on Adam's shoulder. They both soon fell asleep, but with Lacey's head on the armrest and Adam's head on her lap. Lacey woke up and saw that the credits were rolling, and froze when she saw Adam laying on her. She brushed his hair out of his face and pinched his nose. He woke up and she giggled. "Don't do that, Lace."

"Okie." She said. She took a hair tie off of her wrist and pulled her hair into a messy ponytail. Adam stared at her, and frowned. "What?" Lacey asked, frowning back. "Nothing." He muttered.

All of a sudden Lacey felt her heart beating a little faster and she stopped breathing for a second. "Lace, do you wanna go on a walk?" He asked. "I could use the fresh air." Lacey nodded and stood up. She pulled on her hoodie and said, "Yeah, let's go." They walked outside, and Adam took her hand and they walked down by the river. No one said anything for a minute, and then Lacey broke the silence. "It's cold out here." She zipped up her hoodie all the way and pulled up her hood. "Yeah, it is." Adam said. "But it's October."

"So why were you frowning at me?" Lacey asked. She swung her hand back and forth, and looked at Adam. He shrugged. "What's wrong?" She asked, frowning. "Nothing, Lacey." He snapped. Lacey stopped, and let go of his hand. "I'm not stupid, Adam."

"I know, Lacey. I'm not saying you are. It's just... " Adam said, sighing. He bit his bottom lip and closed his eyes. Lacey felt her heart beating faster again and she thought she knew what that meant. 'Am I in love with Adam? ' She thought. Adam took her hand again and they started walking toward the river. "Lacey, I really, really... Need to talk to you about something." Adam said. Lacey's eyes widened. 'Oh no. ' She thought. They arrived at the river and Lacey was holding her stomach with her free hand by then.

"Lacey, I've been... Thinking about you a lot lately." Adam said. "And... I-I-... " Adam made a face as though he were going to throw up. "I love you." He said quickly. Lacey held her breath and froze. "I love you too." Lacey finally said. Adam smiled. Lacey hugged him and kissed his cheek. Adam pushed her hood down and kissed the top of her head. Lacey kept her head on his shoulder for a few minutes, and closed her eyes. She loved when Adam hugged her. She stuffed her face into his neck and just stood there, with her arms around his back.

When she looked up at him, Adam kissed her. Lacey froze, and time itself seemed to freeze, and she felt like Adam and her were the only people in the world. Everything in Lacey's mind turned into a Technicolor rainbow, and she absolutely loved it.

She pulled back from the kiss, and said, "I love you, Adam."

Lacey closed the bathroom door and smiled to herself. She had never been happier. She stripped off her clothes and turned on the shower. She felt so much better when the water came in contact with her skin. When she had bathed, she grabbed the towel off of the pole that held the curtain up and wrapped it around her body. She wiped the condensation off of the mirror and smiled.

She crossed the hall and went into her bedroom to put on her pajamas.

Lacey skipped down to the kitchen and poured herself a glass of milk. Her mom walked in, looked at Lacey, who was staring out the window, and said, "Hey dreamer."

Lacey blinked and looked at her mom. "Oh, hi." She said, taking a sip of her milk. "You okay?" Her mom, Stella, said. Lacey nodded. "Boy?" Stella said.

Lacey nodded again. She sighed dreamily, and then said, "Yeah. Mom, I don't think I've ever felt this way." Stella smiled. "Who's the boy?"

"Adam." Lacey said, smiling. "Adam?!" Her mom said. Lacey nodded, her face turning bright red. "I sort of knew that something would happen. Adam always seemed like he liked you." Stella said. "Mom... " She said, sighing. "I'm going to bed." She put her glass into the sink and hugged her mom. "'Night, mom." She ran upstairs and shut her door quietly.

She plopped down on her stomach and immediately fell asleep.
