Technicolor, chapter 2
Lacey slammed her fist on the snooze button and lifted her head up. "Lace, Adam's on the phone." She heard her mom say.
"Okay." She said, yawning. She picked up her phone and pressed talk.
"Hullo." She said, yawning again.
"Hey. Sorry to wake you."
"It's okay, Adam."
"Alright. What are you doing later today?"
"I just woke up, Adam... how am I supposed to know?"
"Well, uh... "
"Hang on, Adam."
Lacey walked into the hall and yelled, "Mom, are we doing anything today?"
"No!"
"Okay. I don't know what I'm doing today."
"Wanna catch a movie with me later?"
"Well der." Lacey said, giggling.
"Okay. I'll come get you later.:
"Okie dokie captain pokey." She said.
"You're an odd ball, Twitch."
"Byyee." Lacey said.
Lacey hung up the phone and swung her legs over her bed. She stretched her arms, and fell down backwards from dizziness. She sat there for a minute, and rubbed her eyes. "Lacey!" Stella yelled.
"Yes?" She said.
"Get out of bed and get dressed."
"Okay mom." She said, standing up and walking over to her closet. She pulled out her The Ramones shirt and a pair of torn jeans. She pulled them on with a pair of socks and skipped downstairs. Her dad was sitting on the couch watching the news, as usual, and her mom was in the kitchen. She skipped into the kitchen like a little kid and grabbed a mug out of the cabinet.
"Still dreamy, I see." Her mom said. Lacey sighed and poured herself some coffee.
"Ding dong, the witch is dead, the wicked witch, the wicked witch. Ding dong the wicked witch is dead!!!" Lacey sang as she opened the door to see Adam.
He looked at her strangely when she finished her song, and said, "Someone's hyper." Lacey hugged him and kissed his cheek. He kissed her cheek back, and let go of her. "Ready?" He asked.
"Yup yup." Lacey replied. "Oh, wait. No." She pulled out her beat up black converse and slipped them on, and grabbed her Jack Skellington head hoodie. "Now I am." She said.
"Mom, we're going to a movie." Lacey said into the kitchen. "'K hon." Stella replied.
"Adam, what movie are we seeing?" She asked, being pulled into the theatre.
"You'll see." He said mysteriously.
Lacey sighed. "Whatever."
Adam smiled at her. "Welcome to the Rave." The ticketeer said.
"Uh, yeah. Two tickets for Pirates." Adam said, giving the dude eight dollars.
"Go get a seat and I'll get the stuff." He said, pushing Lacey a little.
"Okie." She said. She wandered through the halls, looking for the theatre that it was going to be playing in. When she found it, Adam was behind her with a tub of popcorn and a big soda. "Oh! God Adam." She said. He chuckled, and led her into the theater.
There wasn't much movie watching, but throwing popcorn and kissing. "Oh, I forgot, the senior dance is tomorrow. I have two tickets already. Do you wanna go with me?" Adam asked.
Lacey nodded. "That'd be fun." Adam smiled at her, and she kissed him.
When the credits were rolling, Lacey looked down at the floor as she tried to get out of the aisle. Popcorn was everywhere. "Do you think they'll let us back in?" She asked, finally getting out of the aisle.
"I don't' know. We made a huge mess." Adam said. "But... oh well." He said, putting the soda in the garbage. He took her hand and led her out of the building.
"I love you Adam." Lacey said. He looked at her and smiled.
"I love you too." He hugged her, and kissed the top of her head.
They walked to Adam's car, and Lacey said, "I'm hungry."
Adam looked at her, raised his eyebrows, and said, "Wanna go somewhere?"
She smiled and nodded.
Lacey threw her hoodie into the front closet and jumped on the couch. Her dad was watching a program, and laughed when he saw Lacey being jumpy. "How're you, kiddo?" He asked.
"Happy." She replied, putting her feet on top of the table in front of her. She ran her hands through her shoulder length hair and smiled at herself.
"Is it Adam?" Her dad asked. Lacey nodded. "Wow." He said.
Lacey gave him a confused look. "What?" She asked.
"Nothing... " Her dad smirked.
Around ten o'clock, she stood up and said, "I'm going to bed." Her dad turned off the TV. "Okay."
At school the next day, Lacey was sitting in the back of the room. The announcements came on, and she lifted her head up.
"Good morning, seniors. As you all know, the prom is tonight at eight o'clock. Now, there will be rules."
The class sighed and Lacey went back to drawing little hearts in her notebook. Her classmate J.D. looked over her Lacey's shoulder, and said, "In love, are you?"
Lacey glared at her, and scowled, "Shut up J.D." She continued to draw a heart with an arrow through it, and J.D. grabbed the pencil she was using. She snapped it in half, and Lacey froze. Luckily, she had another pencil in her notebook, and when she started to draw again, J.D. grabbed it and snapped it in half.
"Little miss Lacey's got a boyfriend!" J.D. said loud enough for the whole class to hear. "Who is it Lacey? Is it Tommy?" The class nerd, Tommy, looked up from his homework. "I bet its Tommy, isn't it? Or is it Owen? I doubt that."
Lacey stood up and yelled, "Mind your own business, J.D! Who cares if I am? It's none of your business who I'm going out with! Just leave me alone!!" J
.D. grinned. "So... how long have you and Tommy been going out?" Lacey didn't say anything.
"You know, Lacey, you're the biggest loser I have ever met. You're also the lowest person to ever live on this earth." She muttered 'whore'. Lacey threw her Stephan King book at J.D. right as Adam was being a messenger for his homeroom, and giving a note to Ms. Lane, Lacey's homeroom. She rushed out of the room and ran down the hall.
"Lacey!" She heard Adam yell. She felt his hand grab her arm and she stopped moving. She let Adam pull her into a hug, and he kissed her head.
Lacey was playing her guitar and suddenly stopped. She looked at the clock. Three o'clock. "Oh crap." She said. "I need a dress!" She put her guitar back on it's stand and made sure she had shoes on, then ran out to her mom's old cougar.
She sped past Hot Topic, and froze when she came across a random dress store, and saw a beautiful deep blue dress with glitter and spaghetti straps. "Oh my god." She whispered. She walked into the store and took a closer look at the dress. The back strapped up, like a corset, only open backed. She checked the price tag, and furrowed her eyebrows. She pulled out her wallet and counted the money she had. Just enough.
When her cell phone vibrated she dropped her wallet out of surprise and pulled out her phone, not even bothering to check the I.D. "Hello?" She asked.
"Hey." It was Adam. "What are you up to?"
"Getting a dress for prom."
"Ah."
"Mmhm. And I'm not letting you see it until tonight."
"Okay."
"Okay. Well I gotta go, buddy." She said.
"Okay. See you tonight."
"Bye."
She put her phone back into her hoodie pocket and picked up her wallet from the ground. An employee walked up behind her and asked, "Can I help you with something?" Lacey nodded and told her she wanted the blue dress. "Okay."
"Okay." She said, yawning. She picked up her phone and pressed talk.
"Hullo." She said, yawning again.
