Technicolor, chapter 3

Lacey put the dress in the backseat of the cougar and sighed. She jumped into the car, pulled out her cell phone, and called Adam back.

"Hey." He said.
"Hi. I'm coming home, so... yeah."
"O-okay?"
"Yeah."
"Okay then. Bye?"
"Bye. I love you, Adam."
"I love you too, Lace."

Lacey smiled as she hung her cell phone and drove out of the parking lot.

Around seven o'clock Lacey went upstairs to put on her dress. She unzipped the bag that it was inside and gently took it out. She took off her clothes and slipped the dress on. "Mom! I need help!" She yelled down the stairs.

"Hang on, hon." Stella said, coming up the stairs.

"I need you to lace this up." Lacey said, turning around.

Stella laced the strings and patted Lacey's shoulder. "Need help with your hair?"

"Yeah." Lacey replied, scurrying over to the bathroom.

Stella helped Lacey curl her dark brown hair and she pinned it up.

The doorbell rang, and Lacey jumped up in surprise. "Lace, Adam's here!" Her dad, Tyson, yelled up the stairs.

"Uh... I'm not ready yet." Lacey said. She applied her make up in a rush, but it looked like she took her time. "Mom, how do I look?" Stella smiled.

"Beautiful." She said.

"Crap. I need my shoes!" Lacey said, rushing into her bedroom. She grabbed her new pair of blue shoes and slipped them on her feet. She looked at herself once more before she went downstairs.

Adam was standing by the door, and when he saw her coming down the stairs, he held his breath. His mouth was glued to the floor and he dropped that flower thing that you wear at proms. "Wow," was all he managed to say. Lacey smiled, slightly red and she bit her bottom lip. Adam was short of breath. His mouth was still glued to the floor. He picked up the flower thingy and took it out of the box. "Here." He said, putting it on her wrist.

"Thanks." Lacey said. She fastened the other one onto his suit jacket and smiled.

"Okay, you two, I need to take a picture of this." Stella said, taking her digital camera out of her purse.

"Mom... " Lacey complained. "I really just wanna go."

"Just one." Stella said. Lacey sighed and turned around. Adam put his arms around her and Lacey put her hands on his. Her mom took the picture, and then Lacey and Adam left. "I love you, Adam." She said, as they stepped off the porch.

Adam turned around, smiled, and kissed her softly on the lips. "I love you too." He said against her lips.

About ten o'clock the D.J's voice came on through the microphone. "Okay, here's a slow song for all you couples out there."

Lacey tugged at Adam's arm and said, "Come on!" She put her hands around Adam's neck and he put his hands at the base of her spine.

"Okay, this song is called 'I'll Be.'" The DJ said.

The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath
Emeralds from mountains thrust toward the sky
Never revealing their depth
Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated
I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above

I'll be your crying shoulder
I'll be love's suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

Rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed
You're my survival; you're my living proof
My love is alive not dead
Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache, that hang from above

I'll be your crying shoulder
I'll be love's suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

I've been dropped out, burned up, fought my way back from the dead
Tuned in, turned on, remembered the things that you said

I'll be your crying shoulder
I'll be love's suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

...The greatest fan of your life

Lacey kissed Adam softly and she laid her head on his shoulder. "I love you." Adam said, bringing his hands further up her back. Lacey kissed his cheek in response and smiled at him.

"Did your mom give you a time to be home?" Adam asked.

Lacey shook her head. "Why?"

Adam shrugged. "I was just hoping we could so something later." He said.

Lacey stared at him. "Like what?" Adam shrugged again.

"Hey, Adam, don't you think it's a little weird dating from who long we've been friends?" Lacey asked.

He shook his head. He looked at her, and said, "No, I don't." Lacey smiled, and then kissed him again.

"Hey, I wanna take you somewhere." Adam said, taking her hand and leading her outside. "It's near here." He pulled her down the road and through a wooded section.

"Hang on, Adam. Lemme take off my shoes." Lacey said, stopping. She pulled them off and picked them up, grabbing Adam's hand again.

Adam led her to a little spot where there weren't any trees. It was circular, and there was a small pond at the opposite edge. "Oh... " Lacey said.

"This is where I come to think about stuff." Adam replied, pulling her closer to him. "It's where I figured out I loved you."

"How long have you been coming here?" Lacey asked him, rubbing her arm with her free hand.

"Not that long. I found it one day when I was walking home when you were sick."

Lacey nodded. "How... how long have you loved me, Adam?"

He bit his lip and didn't answer. "Cold?" He asked, taking of his jacket.

"A little bit." Lacey said, rubbing her arm again. He put his jacket on her, and hugged her.

"I love you, Lace." He whispered.

"And I love you." Lacey whispered back.

Adam pulled back from the hug and sat down, patting the grass next to him. Lacey sat down, and he kissed her lips softly. Lacey deepened the kiss and put her hand on his cheek. Adam took her hand "K" Adam said, getting out. When Lacey came around the car, he took her hand.

Lacey took off the suit jacket and laid it on the couch. "Looks like my parents aren't home." She said.

"Yeah, I didn't see your dad's car." Adam said, rubbing the back of his neck. "What time is it?"

Lacey looked up at the clock and said, "Ten thirty." Adam sighed. "Tired?" Lacey asked.

Adam shook his head. "No. You?"

Lacey shook her head. "Gah. This pins are killing me." She said, taking out the bobby pins that held up her hair.

"Let's go upstairs and watch TV." Adam said.

"Okay." She grabbed his hand and they ran upstairs into her bedroom. Adam tugged at her arm, stopped her, and kissed her. He wrapped his arms around her and untied the string in the back of her dress. The spaghetti straps brushed off of her shoulders and Lacey fell onto her bed. Adam crawled on top of her, kissing her neck.

Lacey unbuttoned his vest and slipped it off. They undressed each other until they were only in their underwears. When Adam unhooked her bra, Lacey stopped him. "Adam... I've never done this before."

His deep brown eyes stared at her caringly. "Neither have I." He said softly. Lacey took a deep breath and kissed him again, throwing her bra onto the floor.

A couple minutes later they're bodies were connected and Lacey was more scared than she's ever been. "It's okay." Adam whispered.

Adam rolled off of Lacey and put his arm on top of Lacey's belly. Lacey took a deep breath and looked at him. She kissed him softly on the lips and put her hand on top of his.

Very early the next morning, Lacey rubbed her eyes and looked at the clock. It was six in the morning. 'Ah, good, mom and dad aren't up yet.' She thought. She moved onto her side, so that she faced Adam. She kissed his lips softly and he fluttered his eyes open. "You should leave so my mom and dad think you left last night." Lacey said. He nodded and kissed her back. He sat up, and rubbed his eyes. He leaned over Lacey and snatched his boxers from off the floor.

Lacey closed her eyes as Adam searched her messy room for his white wife beater tank top. When she opened her eyes again, Adam was buttoning his shirt. He sat down next to her when he was finished dressing and kissed her forehead. "I love you, Lacey." He whispered.

"I love you too." She replied. She pulled the sheet up and hugged him.

"I gotta go, Lace. I'll call you later." Adam said as he hugged her back.

When he left, Lacey put on some clothes and went back to bed.

When she woke up again, it was almost one pm. She flung her blankets off of her body and slowly walked downstairs. Stella was sitting on the couch jumping channels when she got down there. "When did Adam leave?" Stella asked as Lacey plopped down.

Lacey sighed sleepily. "Like... midnight." She lied.

"Lacey... I don't care when he left."

"Six." Lacey said, yawning.

"Thank you for being honest." Stella said. Lacey laid her head on her own shoulder and yawned. She sighed.

"Adam called... around eleven." Stella said.

"Okay." Lacey said. She grabbed the cordless phone off of the coffee table in front of her and dialed Adam's phone number.

"Hello?" Came Adam's voice.
"Hi."
"Oh, hey Lacey."
"My mom told me you called."
"I did. I was wondering if you want to go get a coffee."
"Yeah, sure. That'd be great. What time?"
"An hour, maybe?"
"Okay."
"Alright. Love you, Lace."
"Bye."

"Mom, I'm gonna go take a shower." Lacey said, running up the stairs.

"Okay."

Lacey shut the bathroom door. She looked at herself in the mirror at played with her hair for a minute. It was still a little curly, and sticky from the sweat and hairspray. There were bags under her eden eyes, and her makeup was smudged. She turned on the water and stripped off her clothes. She stepped into the water and sighed with pleasure because it felt so good.

After she had washed, she wrapped a big green towel around her body and walked to her bedroom. She closed the door, opened her closet and pulled out her white The Misfits shirt, a white wife beater, a pair of ripped up flared jeans, some red satin panties, and a white bra, all clean and ready to wear.
