Whatever happened to Billie and I?, chapter 1

An icy blast of wind hit her as she stepped onto the wide sidewalk. She held her hair behind her head with one hand, while in the other was a guitar, not in a case, she was holding it by its neck. She blinked her eyes to shield them from drying out in the wind. The sidewalk was filled with about twenty teenagers, all between the ages of seven and twenty. A young man and two teens around the age of 15 were standing in a dark corner near the side entrance to the wicker caning store. They were obviously passing things to one another. She often wondered where they could get the money, or the fake ID to get speed. She herself lacked both the funds and the fake ID, so her thing was a gulp of cough syrup every now and then.

The Gilman Street project, as it was called, but more likely referred to as just "Gilman Street", was an all ages club, run by volunteers. The club was unlicensed to sell alcohol but that didn't stop the kids from getting a bit drunk... Or rather, completely wasted. The club was located right in the heart of the Bay Area punk scene and therefore attracted the mass of punk rockers dying to get out of their usually chaotic, and even unhappy homes. She was a regular here, had been for a while, spending her weekends here had inevitably led her to do-it-herself and start a band. Her two best friends Taryn and Melanie were both in the band alongside her. Taryn on drums, Melanie on bass, and herself obviously the guitarist and vocals. She was standing in the center of the sidewalk when she heard her name being called.

"Addy! Adeline! Hello!" the voice of Taryn called out from her right. She turned around to see her friend in a thick jacket, come straddling up the sidewalk, squinting her eyes against the piercing wind.

"What the fuck are you doing here? Were playing tomorrow!" she yelled against the wind as she came toward Adeline.
"And aren't you cold?" She asked a bit softer and stood beside her friend.

"I know, I wanted to play tonight but there were no openings" Adeline said back. "And no, not very, it was boiling in there." She said and nodded to the club. "Saw an awesome act though." her friend nodded.

Over in the corner, one of the fifteen year olds looked at the two girls.

"Never seen them before." he said and turned to his blue eyed, brown haired friend.

"No." The brown haired one replied and looked at the girls. He focused on the girl in the jacket. He noticed a few of the auburn culls had come loose from her messy plaits and were frantically flying around in the wind. He thought about how she must look under the jacket that seemed to be hiding her figure.

"Mike!" his friends voice snapped him out of his train of thought. He turned and looked at his best friend who was staring at him with his bright green eyes.

"You perv." He jokingly said and stuffed something in Mike's jacket pocket. "Your share." He said and shrugged his shoulders. "A little reward for the awesome show we did tonight."

Mike smiled and turned back to the girls, they were obviously in a band because the one with dark, straight hair held a guitar in her hand, the same one as his friend, a budget Fernandez Stratocaster, and the one with curly auburn hair had drumsticks in her hands and was showing her friend a rhythm. He wondered where the bassist was.

"Okay thats it!" His friend said and laughed, he stepped out of the shadow of the corner and toward the girls.

"Billie!" Mike called, this seemed very unlike his friend. He was usually a bit more shy, maybe Billie had finally taken his advice, and 'thought with his balls'. He caught up with his friend. "
What are you doing?" he asked but Billie had no time to answer, they arrived at where the girls were standing, they immediately stopped talking and looked at the two of them.
