In The End It Doesn't Even Matter-Sequel To, "Tell Me Who You Love!", chapter 6
"Aw, fuck my ass is numb" Tre moans as soon as the film finishes. He made me jump, and I snatched my hand away from Billie's guiltily.
I grab my coat and make my way back into the foyer.
"Hey, Billie! You're not going to get rid of us that easily are you?" Tre calls to Billie who is holding hands with Adrienne, walking towards the exit. He turns round and sighs, murmuring something under his breath. I see Adrienne do a light giggle.
"What's up Tre?" Billie asks, almost annoyed.
"I want to see my bestest buddy" He explains, a smile across his face.
"How about, the both of you come round mine for a drink. Here's my address and come round about 7:00pm" Billie suggest quickly, scribbling down his address. Tre whoops and we wave goodbye to Billie and Adie.
"Tre, that was rude" I moan at him as soon as they are out of ear shot.
"What? I haven't seen my two greatest friends in the world in ages and I can't see them again? I've already had that happen once to a certain someone and I don't want it to happen again" He states, nodding towards me with the 'certain someone'. I sigh and link my hand through his as we make our way back to the car.
"What time is it babe?" I ask Tre as we enter our home.
"Ergh, dinner time" He says stupidly. I sigh, once again, and go into the lounge to look at the clock. 6:00pm.
"Shit!" I moan.
"What?" Tre asks, coming into the room with a piece of bread sticking out of his mouth.
"We have an hour, to get the kids- Shit the kids!" I screech, grabbing my mobile. I dial the number and wait for an answer.
"Hey Mrs. Wright I'll come by and pick the kids up now if you like?" I ask into the phone.
"What the fuck?" Tre buts in. I shoo him away with my hand.
"Ok, I'll be down in about 25 minutes. Thanks" I finish off. Tre suddenly snatches the phone from my hands and talks to his mum.
"Mom, don't worry about the kids. If you could look after them for the night then that would be great as Cassie and me have something planned. Ok thanks" He says then turns off the call.
"What did you do that for?" I ask him.
"We are not ruining our night with Billie and Adie just because of the kids!" He almost shouts.
"Ok. Ok. But you really do need to spend some time with the children you know. They love you to pieces Tre" I say, going up to him to give him a hug. He sighs and rests his head on top of mine.
"I know, I love them like hell Cassie. Stop over reacting ok?" He says giving my shoulders a rub. I nod and he kisses my forehead.
"There, that's better. Now go get your drinking gear on and we'll head off to Billie's" He says.
I head off upstairs to get changed, humming on the way.
As I'm getting ready my mobile rings.
"Hello?"
"Hey Cassie, you're still coming round?" Billie answers into my ear.
"Yeah, I guess" I reply.
"Great! I'm looking foreword to catching up with you and seeing you again"
"Yeah me and Tre are excited too" I deliberately point out Tre.
"Well, I'll see you in a minute then"
"Yeah, bye"
"Oh and Cassie" He quickly adds.
"Yeah?" I ask.
"I love you" I sigh and put down the phone. I smile to myself thinking of the times I had with Billie and how they were all thrown away. But I can't lead that to happen again. Both times Billie hurt me. It's a different kind of love with us, I guess we're soul mates, meant to be deep down but our path was broken in the process. We're like best friends but more. A friend you can't shake off. And boy was Billie hard to shake off.
About half an hour later we arrive at Billie's house, a crate of beer in hand. A very glamorous Adrienne answers the door.
"Tre!" She says happily, embracing him in a hug. He gives her a kiss on the cheek.
"mmm, yummy" He says, causing Adrienne to let out a fluster of giggles.
"Hey Cassie" She says, smiling.
"Hi" I reply, forcing a smile across my face. I don't know why I feel so negative towards her. It's not jealousy...
"Come on in guys" She says, showing us to the living room where Billie is sat on a black leather sofa.
"Fuck, great place you got here!" Tre says, scanning the room. Billie looks up and smiles at me.
"Heya" He says, giving me a hug and nodding to Tre. Too late, Tre had already knocked him backwards with the force of his hug. Billie laughs.
"Ok Tre, I am worried what you will be like AFTER drink. I've forgotten that" Billie says, straightening himself out again.
Tre walks out the room for a minute with Adrienne in tow.
"I've missed you Cassie" Billie whispers, coming closer towards me.
"Billie. Stop. Stop right now. As much as I would like, we have got to put a stop to this. You can't keep changing you're mind about how you feel with me. And not in front of your wife! I love Tre" I warn, looking him in the eye.
"Fine. I'm sorry. We'll all just be friends like we're supposed to yeah? Even though you know as much as I do that that is nearly impossible. There is something there Cassie" He argues back.
"Billie, I'm not in the mood for arguing with you. We both have families and we can't betray them like this. It isn't on" I say, sitting down on the sofa.
I can hear laughter coming from the other room and sigh as I watch Billie chewing on his thumb, staring at me intently.
"Billie, quit it!" I snap. He just walks over to me and holds out his hand. I look up at him quizzically.
"What?" I ask him.
"Take my hand" He says simply. I slowly reach up and link my fingers with his. I feel the warmth of his hand on mine. He walks me over to the back door and unlocks it.
"Billie, where are we going?" I ask, still holding onto his hand.
"Shhhh" He hisses.
I let him lead me to where ever we're going and I soon find myself in a little Japanese house. The sky is a deep blue colour, with flickers of orange from the sun set. Small candles surround the little wooden house, creating a warm and romantic atmosphere.
"I want to tell you something" Billie whispers, taking both my hands as we stand in the little house, which is tucked away in the corner of his garden.
"Since I met you and for as long as we've been friends, I have always felt something for you. I know I married and you found Tre, but nothing can stop my feelings. The time before when we were together, I know it didn't work out but I had the best time of my life. Just being with you. Things will be complicated, I know that. And you love Tre and I love Adie, but I care for you so much" He explains. I feel my eyes mist over and I have to sniff a little to hold back the tears.
"Oh baby, please don't cry" He says.
"I have just never had anyone say that to me before" I say. "But it's all true. I love you so much Billie. I love you so much it hurts," I add, a tear falling from my eyes.
Billie gives a small smile and wipes the tear away with his thumb.
"Oh, I have something for you" He says, digging in his pocket and bringing out a small red package. I take it from him and open up the small velvet box. Two small diamonds sit, nestled in a soft gold silk. I gasp a little.
"Oh my gosh" I say, touching them lightly.
"It's not much but I wanted to show you how much I care" He says.
"No! They're... " I pause, looking for a word. "Perfect" I sob, putting my arms round his neck and giving him a hug. He rubs the small of my back softly.
"I'm glad you like them" He whispers in my ear. I pull back slightly and look into his eyes. I smile and give him a small kiss on the lips.
"Thanks Billie"
He leans his head closer and plants a kiss on my lips. I close my eyes and place my arms round his neck as I feel his hands settle on my waist. I picture in my head what's happening. I'm in a small wooden house, surrounded by candles, under the starry night sky, kissing Billie and just across the garden sits my lover and Billie's wife. I giggle into the kiss slightly as these thoughts tell me how naughty we are. Billie just responds by pulling me closer and deepening the kiss. Perfect.
