I Will Always Be There For You, chapter 2

"Here we are!" mom said all cheery as we pulled into the driveway of our new home. I looked up. Oh, boy. "Isn't it lovely?" mom continued like the place was a little toddler that was wearing a cute little dress.

"Um...sure..." I mumbled. It really was rather...how to place it...shabby. And not in the meaning of not too shabby, I mean...shabby.

I looked around as I stepped out of the car. At least we got one of the better houses. Wait-why are we moving into this place anyways? I thought we were-

"I thought it'd be a fun little fixer-upper for us."

"Us?"

"Well, yes, Ramona. Remember I told you there'd be a surprise?" she said reluctantly.

"Please tell me this was the surprise," I moaned taking my suitcase out of the trunk.

"Well...it's half of it."

I turned and gave my mom a you-better-be-kidding-me look.

"Um...well..." she tried saying but then decided to just spring it on me in all her cheeriness. "My boyfriend's moving in with us!"

I just gaped at her. "No."

"Oh come on."

"No," I said firmly marching past her to the front door.

"What do you have against Keith?"

"He's...he's...it's just I don't like him!" Oh great. Wonderful retort Ramona.

Mom got a suitcase and followed me through the door. "No...I think it's something else."

I turned around in the entryway slamming my suitcase on the floor. "What?" I nearly hollered. I knew what she was going to say though.

"You never liked me going out with other men because you don't want them to replace your father." Ugh...she had to say it all smug.

"No! That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard! I never really had a father!" I yelled storming down the hall into the living room.

My mom ran after me. "Now, Mona-"

But she was cut short by the lights turning on suddenly and a burst of, "Surprise!" as people jumped out from behind an old couch and closets. We stood staring at them dumbfounded.

It was all dad's friends. Adrienne, Billie, Mike, Brittany...dad. Uh-oh. Had he just heard our argument and my screaming of him not being my father? Oh....

They did look at me and dad reluctantly sort of scared of what would happen. I just looked at them and ran off down the hall.
