Too many lollipops, chapter 3
As much as Slushie tried to sleep, she couldn't. Tossing and turning, she finally gave up and stared at the ceiling. Thoughts were tracking through her head so quickly she couldn't keep track of all of them. Each night, she'd felt this entire project wasn't right. Cloning a rock star, whom she'd admired since she was a teenager, and selling him to the general public seemed quite a stretch. But it was too late now. They'd spent too much money and promotion to quit now, and besides, they already had their clones. Soon they could return the real Billie back to his family, and Dots and her would be millionaires. But it still didn't seem right. Frustrated, she buried her head in her pillow and drifted off into a light and uncomfortable sleep.
Dots however, was feeling quite frustrated herself. The Billie clones were a handful to take care of, and each was whinier and more demanding than the last. Some days it didn't seem worth it, and she wanted to put them all in a bus and drive them off a cliff. Apparently one of the clones had heard her idea and had nightmares for days afterwards. Life kept getting more and more tense for our brave scientists while trying to care for all of the clones, and the real Billie Joe.
The next morning, Slushie and Dots were busy at work making breakfast for all of their 100 guests. As Slushie approached the real Billie's door, she entered quietly and couldn't believe what she saw. In his hand were colored pencils, paper, and a photograph. She recognized them quickly as his family. A sigh escaped from his lips as he looked up. Embarrassed, he quickly put away his drawing utensils and slapped on a fake smile, while blushing slightly. Slushie just smiled, understanding.
"You miss them don't you?" she said sighing deeply. Billie nodded, and she closed her eyes, thinking intently. Finally, she looked at him, and smiled.
"How about we get you home then, yeah?" At this, his eyes lit up, and he got up and hugged Slushie tightly.
"You have no idea what this means to me!" he yelled, still holding on to her. Slushie smiled, yet was worried how Dots was going to take the news. But either way, she couldn't make him stay here a day longer. It wasn't fair. It hurt him far too much.
Slushie made her way downstairs, and quietly approached Dots. "Hey... I need to talk to you about something."
"Sure, hold on a second," Dots said as she finished drying the dishes she had just finished washing, which was no small task for the amount of people that had been fed.
"Umm... well... I kinda told Billie, the real one, that I would take him home as soon as he finished packing." Dots just looked at her, stunned.
"And you did this without consulting me first? What were you thinking! How are we going to finish the project?!" Dots screamed at Slushie.
All Slushie could do was bow her head in shame and reply, "Because it was the right thing to do. I don't care about the project anymore. He needs to go home. There's more to life than money you know." And with that, Slushie walked upstairs to go help Billie pack.
Frustrated, Dots put her hands on her head and sighed frustrated. "What on earth is she thinking... " Dots mumbled to herself.
