Runaway, chapter 2
Audrey woke up the next morning to find Mike sleeping next to her in nothing but his boxers. He yawned, opening his eyes and the both of them screamed.
"I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!" they screamed.
You better not have done anything!" she said.
"Of course not, we just met!" he said. "But I will admit, you are a very beautiful girl."
"Thanks," she said, sitting back down on the edge of the bed. "And don't get me wrong, but you're pretty hot yourself."
"Really?"
"Do you think a sweet girl like me would lie?"
"Maybe..." he mumbled. She pushed him down as she got up, and she walked into the hallway. "Where are you going?"
"I gotta run. I can't be in one city for more than a day," she called back.
"Well, you've only been here for one night, so stay for a bit."
"Mike, I have to go. I'll come and visit as I'm on the run, I'll be sure to come back to Berkeley."
"Well, one thing before you go," he said as he walked over to where she stood. He kissed her cheek lightly, and began to walk away, but she kissed him back, softly and gently. "Okay, now I REALLY don't want you to leave."
"I have to. I'm sorry..." she walked upstairs, and as he heard the front door open and close, Mike fell backwards on the bed, closing his eyes.
***
"Hmm, where to?" Audrey mumbled to herself as she hid behind a building. "I can walk for a good five hours, and I can fly at least twelve at top speed..."
"Psst! Audrey!" came a voice from the other end of the alley way.
"Crys, is that you?" she hissed back.
"Yeah, what the fuck are you doing in Berkeley?" said the one called Crys. He stood at a good 5' 9" with piercing blue eyes with spiky red hair.
"It's just a quick stop, and I made a few friends last night," she said, walking over to him. "And I'm wondering where I should go..."
"Well, did you hear about some chick named Sayako?" Crys shook his head at her confused expression. "Charlotte?"
"Does she have a sister named Adrienne?"
"Yeah..."
"Then I know about her. Why do you ask?"
"Well, she's hiding a few people of our kind at her place in Minnesota, so maybe you can go there and hide for awhile."
"Okay, but I need something that has her scent so I'll know where to find her."
"Well, her scent is the same as Adrienne's, so it won't be that hard."
"Thanks, Crys," said Audrey as she began to walk away.
***
"So she left?" asked Billie.
"Yep. She said that it would be for her own safety, that I wouldn't doubt," said Mike.
"And why's that?"
"Well, they'd come looking for her, and they'd probably arrest us for hiding her."
"Okay, but now the question is...where is she going?" said Adrienne. She turned her head to the front door when she heard someone knocking. "Who is it?"
"It's me, Crystofer," came Crys's smokey voice. "I know where Audrey's going!"
"Well, get your wolf-demon ass in here so the neighbors won't hear," she let Crys into the house, and he took a seat in the kitchen. "So where is she going?"
"Up to your sister's place in Minnesota. She's got kind of a sanctuary going on..."
"Did she say if she was gonna come back?" asked Billie.
"She told me she would," said Mike, taking a seet next to him.
"Well, that's kind of questionable. She can't go to any public transportation, like buses, trains, planes...even taking a cab is dangerous, now that the government has tightened their security and won't let people like us escape our locations."
"Well, is she walking, running, or sprouting a pair of wings and flying out of here?"
"She's hitchin' a ride with her friend Sora, who has the ability to turn into a big-ass eagle. I'll tell you more after I get contact with her."
***
"Are we there yet?" mumbled Audrey.
"If you ask me that one more time, I'm dropping you to the ground!" said her friend Sora. "We're almost there--HOLY SHIT!" she weaved around as bullets were shot up at her from the ground. "Audrey, a little help?"
"I've got it, don't worry," Audrey stood up, and she took out ten daggers from her back pocket and shot them towards the shooters. The bullets stopped, and she sat back down.
"Jeez, you should join an assassin group, you're so fuckin' handy with daggers."
"Nah, I'd rather be just like this...a normal hybrid with a simple life. Maybe I'll start up a band someday..."
"I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!" they screamed.
