Part Two, chapter 9

But respect is something I will learn if you have faith
Billie loved both of his children equally. Of course he did, they were something he and Violet had created because they loved each other.
"Hey what are you doing here all alone with Jack and Patti? You're trying to brainwash them aren't you? Tell them that their mother is a lazy tramp who is out all the time and doesn't care about them right?" she asked.

"How do you know that I am all alone with Jack and Patti? You're not here," Billie asked back, smiling.

"First of all if your friends were with you they would start screaming as soon as you picked up the phone and second of all here are two words for you: mother's instinct."

"That's technically three words."

"I'll be back in an hour ok honey? Can you handle everything?"

"Of course I can, don't underestimate me baby."

"Wouldn't even think of it. I'll see you in a bit ok?"

"Ok."

"I love you."

"Nice to know."

"Bye."

"Hey!"

"What?"

"Love you too Vi."

Billie saw Patti trying to pick up a toy from the floor. She was quite fond of all her 'Lion King' animals. Billie laughed and helped her get it so that he could enjoy watching her playing with it. Although she was more like examining it than actually playing. Then he heard a familiar noise straight from Jack's mouth.

"What?" he asked surprised. Jack made the same sound.

"Jack did you just say 'dad'?"

Jack's answer was still the same. "Oh my God! You said 'dad'! And I'm your dad!" Billie yelled. He lifted his son up and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Good boy." Jack said the magical word one more time. "Your mom is going to be thrilled about this!" he said enthusiastically.

And then he started thinking of Jack's mom.

Billie would vanish and shrink if Violet wasn't with him. He was feeling like he was going to lose her for some time now and all these worries seemed so fucking stupid when he was around his children. Violet should be with him forever. And he was sure she would. She loved him. She had given him a son and a daughter, she had said herself that she was willing to spend the rest of her life with him. So it was all a matter of a fucking paper? Hell.

Billie was finally going to ask her to marry him.

And he was not going to do it in a crazy way. Instead he would make sure that Violet would have a magical night and that everything was going to be about her. Normal stuff just for once. He couldn't take risks.

Come with me let's go for a ride follow me to the other side
They had grabbed their car and they found themselves, lying on the sand of a beach, sharing a bottle of champagne, both feeling like this was the best day of their lives.

"I am an engaged girl now," Violet said, looking at her ring.

"No you're not," Billie disagreed. "You're an engaged woman." He rolled around and stayed on top of her. "And you look great," he continued.

"It was lunatic what you did at the restaurant," she told him, focusing on a button of his shirt. They both laughed recalling the scene. "But I loved it. Best way to propose to someone."

"I'll keep that in mind for future plans."

They didn't say anything else for a while, just kept looking at each other, trying to get the fact that this would be forever.

"Hey..." he started.

"What?"

"I got a confession to make."

"I'm listening. Should I be scared?"

"No at least I don't think so."

"Shoot mister."

"Well you know after we met and we lost each other for a year I... I had sex with women."

Violet giggled and kissed his chin. "I'm very interested to see where this is going," she said.

"But no matter how much sex I had and how many different women there were every single time I pictured your face."

Violet seemed surprised. "Seriously?"

"Yeah I was getting obsessed with you! You can't even imagine how I felt when you came to the concert."

"I was afraid you wouldn't remember me."

"Well...I did and now here we are." He stroked her hair and placed his soft lips on her forehead.

"Okay I also have something to tell you since you are now my fiancée. I adore that word by the way."

"What?"

"When we met I had a boyfriend."

"What?"

"Yeah his name was James and we were pretty serious. Take comfort in knowing that you were the first one to ever sleep with me but..."

"WHAT?"

"What?"

"You mean that night...in England was your first time?"

"Yeah why?"

"First times are supposed to be special!" he whined.

"Really? Well let's see I had traveled from California to England to meet a rock God and not only did he remember me but he also said that he loved me that same day and then he took me to the most luxurious place existing... Yeah my first time wasn't special enough I don't want to marry you anymore."

He smirked as he remembered the first time they had... well been with each other that way.

"Vi the first time is all about taking things slowly and gently. It's about the man taking care of the woman...it's like a ritual."

"I don't mind. I liked it the same," she insisted.

A stronger wave came and made them wet their feet. She shuddered and held Billie even tighter.

It's getting chilly," she murmured, trembling slightly.

"Let's go and pick our children up from Tre and then go home and cuddle under the sheets," he suggested and got up. Violet did the same, being amused by his enthusiasm. Billie pulled her close to him and kissed her lips forcefully before returning to his car.

"Very un-punk rock like behavior Mr. Armstrong I think your friends would be disappointed in you."

"How's that?"

"Well you doing the most romantic thing to propose to your girlfriend, is not very 'fuck the system'. Having a steady girlfriend is not very 'fuck the system' to start with. People think that you're aggressive and an anarchist."

"Fuck people."

"That's more like it," she said laughing.

"No seriously I don't give a shit about whatever image they all have for me. I am in my thirties, I'm in love with you, I have kids with you and I want to have more. So why the hell shouldn't I marry you?"

She stayed silent, looking outside the window like she always did.

"Hey Vi?"

"What?"

"You know what I've missed?"

"Please don't say anything dirty."

"I wasn't planning on it."

"Okay. Then shoot."

"The 'killer look'."

Violet shook her head, laughing with that reference of the expression she had when she was angry or upset. "Well BJ lately all you do is nice stuff so I'm afraid there's not going to be any killer looks for a while."

"What if I call you a stupid bitch?"

"Then I'd slap you, you'd say you didn't mean it and then I'd kiss the breath out of you. No killer looks."

"If I said I was having an affair?"

"Then we could only use the word 'killer' not 'look.'"

"I hate watching When Harry Met Sally. It's such a boring film."

And there it was. He had gotten his bride-to-be exactly where he wanted her to.
