Are you here yet?, chapter 2
She picked up her purse and walked over to the door. I got up and followed her. When we all got out side Jeff unlocked the car so we could get in. I was in the back. The drive home was quiet; no one talked all the way. As we pulled into the driveway we unbuckled.
Jeff took the keys and unlocked the front door so that we could get into the house. Lila was the first inside.
"Billie, will you read me more of Dragon Rider?" she asked me. I shook my head and followed her into the small library. I picked the book off the shelf and sat down next to her on the soft white couch. I turned to chapter seventeen where we had left off
"The suspicious brownie! Laughing at him for eating flies, and then stuffing her own face with those stinking mushrooms! He just hoped she'd soon pick a poisonous one, a mushroom that would make her stomach ache enough to shut her up for good.
"Among a few bushes Twigleg came upon some tracks, probably made by rabbits going down to the water. He was following their narrow path when a black shadow suddenly loomed over him. The homunculus squealed in alarm and flung himself flat on the ground." I looked at her and sighed, "I can't read anymore tonight. I'm tired, Lila."
"But it's only eight o'clock!" she whined.
"I know, but I don't feel that well, I need to rest. I didn't get that much sleep last night." I said as I got up and put the book away.
"Billie, I wanna read." She pouted.
"Ask Debbie to read to you, but I can't right now, I really need to sleep." I looked at her and walked out of the room with her close behind.
"Mamma, will you read to me?"
"Lila darling, you need to go to bed, it's already past your bedtime."
"Mommy, I don't want to go to bed!" she cried.
"Lila, Billie was up until eleven last night reading to you, you got to stay up late, so you need to go to bed earlier tonight. I'll be in your room in a few minutes to tuck you in, now go brush your teeth." Debbie said as she got up and walked over to me.
"You feeling any better?" she asked me.
"No, not really. I'm goanna go to bed now too." She put her hand on my forehead and went into the kitchen. "Billie, come here a minute." She said. I walked into the kitchen to the counter at which she was standing by.
"Take these." She handed me two aspirin and Advil. I took them and walked over to the cupboard and got out a glass for some water. After I took the pills I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth. Lila was in there, she didn't look too happy. I brushed my teeth and walked out of the bathroom and headed up the stairs.
"G'night Billie." Jeff and Maria called up.
"Good night." I walked into my room and pulled the sheet over the door and closed it with three thumbtacks. My room didn't have any lights except a small wall lamp. I walked over to my bed and began to undress without turning the light on. Once I was in my black t-shirt and black and red shorts I pulled the blankets down so that I could get into bed. I didn't fall to sleep until a half hour later. I stared at the shadows cast by the trees and the street lamps reflecting on my wall. They shown through the window with the blinds and bedspread for a curtain. That's all that I fell asleep to...
