The Punk Princess, chapter 4

I spent the next few days at Billie's just like the first except for one day when I had to meet the mayor and participate in a candle lighting ceremony. Although Billie acted normal, I thought a lot about that kiss and wondered if he did too, but if he did he didn't say anything and I noticed he was careful to kiss only my cheek. I often wondered why he did, but I would remember; every guy I went out thought he needed to be gentleman just because I was royal. But Billie was different, every other guy thought he had to do everything for me, Billie however seemed to understand everything without me telling him, probably because he was just as famous as me and had dealt with similar things.

Today I was expected at Tre's house for a barbeque or something like that anyway, I hadn't really been listening when Mike explained everything.
I had finally found my black Converse; they had been stuffed underneath my clothes in my suitcase. I gave myself a quick once over before heading out the door. I had gotten bored with just black hair so the previous night I had bleached a chunk of hair on each side of my face blonde, kind of like the girl from Taxi at the end, except my hair was straight and choppy. It looked totally kick ass!
When I got to Tre's house, Tre himself answered the door.
"Whoa!" he said before opening the door.

Good thing too because I was dressed to impress. I wore my black high heels by Marc Jacob, black jeans, a black tee shirt that said Punk with strategically placed rips, and a red tie used as a belt. I didn't like when fans ripped off their idols style, so I made up my own. I left my hair down so the newly bleached parts would show.
A lady walked over to Tre and gave him a quick kiss. "Oh hello, I'm Claudia. You must be Melanie." she said pleasantly.
"Hi," I said shyly, meeting new people had never been easy for me.
"Billie's in back," Tre said with a small grin.
"Okay," I replied before darting away.

When I got to the backyard, I immediately spotted Billie; he was talking to some guy. I walked over to him and smiled.
"Hey Billie."
"Hi Mel, this is Jason White."
"Hello Jason."
"Nice to meet you," Jason bowed and departed for the bathroom.
"C'mon let's go see Mike," Billie urged.
"Alright."

We walked over to Mike where he was talking to a pretty blond girl.
He turned to me and smiled. "Melanie, this is my girlfriend, Brittany Cade."
"Hey," I greeted her.
Her eyes widened. "You're Melanie van der Woodsen!" she said in an awed voice.
"Yup," I said with fake enthusiasm. "That's me."
"Wow," she murmured. "So are you and Billie together?" she asked.
"No just friends," I replied nervously.

Billie muttered something about getting something to drink and left abruptly.
Mike sighed and shook his head.
"Uhh I'll be back," I said quietly and slowly walked away.
I could feel Mike and Brittany's gaze on me as I walked away
I was now a good distance from when a girl tripped and stumbled into me.
"Oh fuck I'm so sorry!" she cried. "It's these damn shoes!"
"It's okay," I replied with a kind smile, after all I knew all about having to wear uncomfortable shoes.
"I'm Adrienne Nessar; I'm a friend of Billie's."
"Really? Me too, I'm Melanie van der Woodsen by the way."
"Wow that cool! I love your eyes!" she said gazing at them wistfully.
I forgot to mention that my eyes are two different colors, like the right one is blue and the left one is green. They are what my best friend Prince William calls my most "intriguing" asset.

I spent much of the evening talking to Adrienne, I really liked her and I thought maybe I had a new friend, something I didn't have too many of.
Soon I lost track of time talking with Adie and when she went home, I thought I should head back to my hotel room too. But first I had to find Billie.
After searching outside I found him a parlor room upstairs.
"Hey Billie," I said quietly.
"Hey. I hope you had a good time," he replied.
"I did. You guys sure know how to kick back." I marveled.
Billie laughed. "I guess you could say that."
"Adrienne seems pretty cool."
"Yeah we've been friends a long time.
"It's late I better go." I rose to leave.
"Alright," he looked like he wanted to say something else but didn't.
I heard him mumble something. "Yes?" I asked.
"I like what you did to your hair," Billie said turning red for some reason.
"Thanks," I replied and left Tre's house.

***
That night I had trouble sleeping. My thoughts kept drifting to Billie even though I knew it was teenie-ish, I couldn't help it. Finally I got up and sat by the window, looking out up at the stars. It was something I did at home when I couldn't sleep.
Just as I was starting to fall asleep, I heard a faint ding coming from my laptop. Sighing, I grabbed the laptop and returned to my spot at the window.
I had an IM from Billie.

Punkrocks: I can't sleep.

Princessgirl: LOL neither can I.

Punkrocks: I was wondering....

Princessgirl: yeah?

Punkrocks: do you wanna hang with me tomorrow? It will just be me and you.

Princessgirl: sure, what time and where?

Punkrocks: I'll let you know tomorrow ; ) well I gotta go Tre is staying the night cuz he is scared of the dark and is being his usual self.

Princessgirl: LMAO ok.

Princessgirl has sighed off at 1:07 pm

I sighed and drifted off into sleep, with the laptop still on my lap.
