Time just flies by, doesn’t it?, chapter 4
"I don't know. That's just how I am, you'll just have to deal with it." He looked at me. I glared at him, but I didn't mean to, and it may have been a mistake.
"What, you got a problem with it?" he asked me, glaring back.
"No, I just thought you were nicer." I said, again saying something different from what I meant to.
"Well, I'm not, okay." He said. He looked mean now, not so hot.
"Um, sorry. I didn't mean to make you mad." I said looking away. Geeze, he hurt. He looked at me and walked away. He was an idiot, not nice like he looked in his pictures. I walked away and sat down in the far corner of the gym, waiting for class to be over. As I sat down I noticed Mike was walking over to me. I was about to move when he put his hand up. "I won't do anything." He said as he sat down next to me.
"You'll just have to get used to Billie, he's a jerk sometimes. He doesn't even realize he's doing those things most of the time, he just does it."
"Well, if he ever plans on getting friends he'll have to quit. I don't even know him and he's already acting like this. I knew my first day would be horrible." Mike and me talked for a few minutes about nothing, the teacher blew the whistle and said we could get dressed, wait in the locker room until the bell rang. I went inside the room and got dressed, going outside as soon as the bell had rung. Next I had band. I walked into the room and went to the teacher.
"Hello, can I help you?" he asked. He seemed nice.
"Um yes, actually I was wondering if we needed out instruments today."
"No, I still have to make sure of what everyone is using. We won't need to bring them in until next week, well actually, the week after. Right now I am figuring out what everyone will be using. You know, we have so many musically gifted people in this school? The most talented people have been in band here since last year only, and have had a huge improvement since I first met them. Then there are those others, they aren't that great, you just want to kick them out and say "Don't ever plan on coming back." But unfortunately it doesn't work that way. But all you have to bring is yourself." I thanked him and walked over to a seat in the back row where he told me I could sit. As I was sitting down Billie walked in. He looked over at me and shook his head. I watched as he walked towards me.
"What?" I asked. He sat down next to me and shook his head. "You're in band too?" I asked.
"Yep." He said, not looking at me, but the floor.
"Just don't talk to me and we may just get along." I said. He looked up at me and glared.
"I could've said the same thing."
"Well, now it's said and done. You don't talk to me, I don't talk to you." He looked at me and yawned.
"My that boring?" I asked, referring to what he asked his friend earlier.
"Yes, actually you are." He said. He was making me mad. I think he knew it too, but he didn't say anything more. Throughout the rest of the period he was quiet, saying nothing to anyone. When the bell rang he got up, letting me go first.
"Thanks." I mumbled. He didn't respond. He walked out the door and followed me down the hall.
"Are you following me?" I asked him
"Is going to lunch a crime?" he asked me, looking me straight into the eyes. I ignored him and kept walking. When I got to my locker I noticed he was still close behind, but seven lockers down from mine he stopped. He opened it and took out a bag, shutting it.
"You got anywhere to sit?" he asked, noticing that I was watching him.
"No, why?" I asked after getting my own lunch.
"Do you wanna sit with us?" he asked
"Depends, who's us?" I asked him back.
"Me, some of my friends."
"You have friends?" I asked. Geeze, I just blamed him for being mean! I was being a total jerk to him, and he was trying to be nice.
"Actually I do, and I was just trying to be nice. After earlier." He said
"I'll find somewhere else to sit. Thanks anyway." I said, walking past him. I couldn't look at him, after I just said that. He was being nice, and I turned him down...
When I got to the commons I sat down at an empty table. I watched as he came in with, Tre'. Tre' was his friend? Okay, that's just weird. I looked away, to my food. When I looked back up they were not there. I looked around the cafeteria, they were at the other end of the room. Billie wasn't eating anything, it looked like Tre' had the bag that he'd brought in from his locker. I finished my lunch and threw the bag away, sitting back at my table. As I sat I realized that Tre' was coming up to me.
"Hey Emily. I guess you've met Billie?" he asked, sitting next to me.
"Yeah, and I'm being a real jerk to him." I said.
"Take it easy on him, his girlfriend just broke up with him." I felt bad.
"Who, who's his girlfriend?"
"Lilly. You met her yet?"
"Oh crap... yeah, I have." I said. Now I felt really bad. I was mean to him, and the first girl I met here was his girlfriend, and I knew them BOTH. This wasn't good.
"Why'd she break up with him?" I asked.
"This girl, real prep, told her a lot of untrue things about him, like that he's been cheating on her, and she believed her, so she ditched him. That's all he would say, hung up on me when I asked more." I looked over to Billie and sighed.
"Can you tell him I'm sorry?" I asked Tre'.
"No, but you can. He won't take it from me. He doesn't seem to heart broken about you saying whatever to him anyway." He told me. I felt really bad about this whole thing now, real bad.
"What, you got a problem with it?" he asked me, glaring back.
"No, I just thought you were nicer." I said, again saying something different from what I meant to.
