Billie Joe Armstrong Is My Neighbor And Yes, I love Him, chapter 11
Green Day's airplane arrived at the Oakland Airport within an hour after Billie Joe spoke to Sara. He was nervous about seeing his girlfriend, and prayed that everything was fine with her health. He then remembered how Sara said Rachel has temporary amnesia. The thought of that scared him, and made him even more nervous.
Billie Joe, along with Mike and Tre, arrived at the hospital and were escorted to Rachel's room by a nurse. Sara was trying to tell Rachel some things about her life that she didn't remember, and Rachel just sat there with a confused look on her face.
"You have some visitors," the nurse said, while walking the members of Green Day into the hospital room.
"Hello. I'm Sara," Sara said as she got up to introduce herself, looking starstruck as she met the three.
"Oh right! Well, I'm Billie, this is Mike, and this is Tre."
They introduced themselves and Billie then saw Rachel looking at them, as if they were complete strangers. He walked over to the bed where she was sitting and put his hand on her hand.
"Excuse me, but who are you?" Rachel asked, looking scared.
"Rachel, I'm your boyfriend. I really have missed you," Billie said, looking worried.
"Oh, you're Joe!" Rachel said, sounding confident as she thought she remembered his name.
"It's Billie Joe. But you were close," Billie said, while laughing a little.
Billie than turned to Sara. "I thought you said she could remember some stuff while you were in the ambulance with her."
"She did! She even told me to call you! I don't know what happened. But, the doctor did say that it's only temporary," Sara said
"RACHEL! Do you remember who I am?" Tre asked, while coming over to where Billie was sitting with Rachel.
"Of course she doesn't dip-shit! She has amnesia," Mike told the hyperactive drummer.
"Joe?" Rachel said
"Call me Billie, honey," Billie said to his girlfriend.
"Ok Billie. But who is 'Honey'?" she questioned.
Billie laughed. "Sometimes we call each other honey. It's only a nickname."
"Ok. Well, Honey, who are those two guys?" Rachel asked.
"That guy who is checking out your friend is Mike, and that weird lookin' one is Tre."
Mike stood there blushing a bit. "I'm feeling a little hungry? Want to maybe go and get a bite to eat, Sara?" Mike asked
"Well, if Rachel is going to be ok then I would be happy to go."
"I'll be fine with her. We can get to know each other all over again," Billie joked.
"Great! She could really use your company," Sara said
"Yeah, well it's getting late. You guys should probably get going now."
"Are you sure you will be ok here alone with her?" Mike asked.
"Of course! Now go you too, and Tre you can leave also," Billie said.
"Fine, I see how it is. I'm not wanted anywhere!" Tre shouted
Mike, Tre, and Sara said their goodbyes and left the hospital. Leaving Billie alone with Rachel, to try and help bring her memory back.
Rachel, please get better. I cannot stand seeing you like this. Confused, and unaware of what's going on in life, Billie thought to himself.
"Joe?" Rachel asked, again
"Please, call me- never mind."
"Joe, when am I going to start remembering things?" Rachel asked, while Billie could hear the sadness in her voice.
"Honey, don't worry. You'll get better soon. But I want you to promise me that you will eat," Billie said, reminding her, and himself what the real important issue was. He laid her down on the bed and laid by her side, with his hand still holding her hand.
"Ok. How long have you been my boyfriend, Joe?" Rachel said, while looking into Billie's eyes, as if she were looking at him for the first time.
"It's been a while. We have fun together," he said as he smiled and rubbed his hand on her cheek gently.
"Well, I did good picking you as a boyfriend. You're really cute!" Rachel said, making Billie Joe blush.
"Rachel I love you."
"Thank you. Do I love you too?" she asked, trying to think if she did or not.
"I better hope so!" Billie said.
"Ok. I love you too Joe," Rachel said, and Billie laughed a little.
"What's so funny?" she asked.
"Nothing. It's just that, no one has ever just called me Joe," he said.
"Well, isn't your name Joe?" she asked, sounding confused, yet again.
"Yeah, it is," Billie said, because he did not want to confuse things even more for her.
"Are you cold Rachel?" Billie asked.
"Yes I am. What should I do?"
"Why don't we get under the covers, and we'll be warmer," Billie suggested.
"The what?"
"The covers- here I'll show you." Billie had Rachel sit up as he pulled the covers back.
"There! Now aren't you warmer," Billie said, as he got under the covers with her.
"Yeah! I am. You're really smart Joe," she said.
"Yeah, I know. I am pretty smart," he said.
"Joe? Who are my parents?"
"You know what? I've never met them. But I'm sure they're great people who love you," Billie said
"Oh...where are your parents?" she asked
"Well, my Mom lives close to here, and my Dad died when I was 10," Billie said, making himself think about his father.
"I'm sorry. Do you miss him?" Rachel said, sounding like a little kid. Asking personal questions, without thinking it through first.
"I really miss him. He was a great guy. You know, I haven't really talked to anyone about him lately."
"Why? Doesn't it help you remember him by talking about him?" she asked, making Billie think about what she said.
"It does. I'm glad you brought up the subject. You're a very caring person Rachel," Billie said as he brought her closer to him, and she laid her head on his chest.
Billie kissed her forehead, and she began to fall asleep. Billie just laid there thinking about how much her loved her. And realized that he will love her forever and always. No matter what, he knew that she is the only girl for him.
