Where's Joey?, chapter 1
I sighed and brushed the hair out of my eyes. Joey's gone again. He's always leaving and attempting to run away. I don't want to say it's Billie's fault, but, it kind of is. He hates himself because of it. He's always gone. Joey needs his father. Right now, all he has is his mother. Me.
I drove up and down the street looking for him. No signs that he had been here. I went up to his room earlier and he wasn't there. I checked the whole house. He wasn't there. So I decided he'd run away again.
My cell phone rang. I was quick to answer it.
"Hello?"
"Momma!"
"Jakob, baby what's wrong?"
"Joey's home!"
"Good. Why are you crying?"
"He's dead!"
My heart dropped.
"J-Jakob, are you sure?"
"Yes! He's not breathing!"
"Alright, baby. I'll be right there."
"Hurry, Momma!"
I hung up and quickly turned the car around, almost making a wreck, and drove home as fast as I could.
I ran inside. "Jakob!" I screamed, "Where are you?!"
"I'm upstairs in the bathroom!" he yelled back. I ran upstairs and opened the door of the bathroom. Joey lay on the floor with slashes on his wrists with Jakob crying over him. "Wake up, big bother!" Jakob cried, "Wake up!"
I put my head to his chest. There was still a heart beat. But Jakob was right, he wasn't breathing. "Stand back, baby,"I said to Jakob. He nodded and sat on the toilet. I started to do CPR. After a minute of it, he started breathing again. Just barely, though. I reached for the medicine cabinet and grabbed the Ace bandage. I wrapped half around one wrist and cut it. I wrapped up the other wrist.
I picked him up and ran downstairs to the living room, with Jakob not far behind. A set Joey on the couch. "Jakob," I said, "You watch to see if he wakes up." He nodded and knelt beside his brother.
I ran to the phone to call the hospital. While it was ringing, Jakob yelled from the living room. "Momma, Momma!" he cried, "Joey's shaking!" Oh, shit, I thought, He's having a seizure.
The hospital finally picked up.
"Berkely 911. How can I help you?"
"Yes. My son's slit his wrists and he's seizing."
"We have someone on the way."
"Thank you."
I hung up and ran to my son. I can't stand seeing him die like this! He can't die damnit! He can't! I won't let him! I won't lose my son!
