Where's Joey?, chapter 6

I woke up. Billie wasn't there. I went downstairs. Joey was playing his Xbox. How can he still do this with bandaged wrists? He's a video game fanatic. Go figure.

"Hey, baby," I said, leaning against the couch. "How're you feeling?"
"Fine," he said, not looking up from the TV screen.
"Where's you father?" I asked. He slammed down the controller and looked at me. Then he ran to his room. We had taken his blade out, and searched his room for any others.

There were five.

I went into the kitchen. There was a note on the refrigerator:

Dear Adie and Joey,
I went to the studio to work on the album.
I accidentally woke Jakob up, so he's with me.
Sorry, buddy. I didn't want to wake you.
Love,
Me

I walked up to Joey's room. Poor guy. He must feel like no one cares. Billie should have known better. Joey's his son, too. His first born at that.

I opened his door and walked in just in time to see him throw a dart at a poster of Billie.
"Joey, don't do that," I startled him.
"Mom!" he jumped up."Don't do that! You almost gave me a heart attack!"
"I doubt it. Come sit with me on the bed."
He rolled his eyes and reluctantly walked over. I wrapped my arms around him in a tight hug.
"Joey, I know you really don't want to, but, we need to talk about this."
"Why?"
"Because, we need to get it straightened out."
"Whatever."
"Excuse me?"
"I mean yes ma'am!"
"That's better. Now, why did you do this to yourself, Joey?"
"I don't know."
He stood up and walked around the room.
"I just, I don't know. I felt like no one cared. He's never home. And when he is, it's usually Jakob that he hangs out with, not me. I mean, he's my dad, too. Why does Jakob get to hog him all the time? It's not fair. Doesn't he love me, too?"
He looked up at me as a tear rolled down his cheek. He quickly wiped it away.

"Oh, Joey!" I said, running to him and holding him. That's when he broke down. He sobbed into my arm, gasping for air and saying things like, "Why doesn't he love me too?! I love him! Why doesn't he love me back?!" We sat on the ground and I rocked back and forth.

An hour later, it was still going on. Jakob walked in.
"Mommy-," he started. I waved my arm, signaling for him to go away. He nodded with a confused look on his face and shut the door. He must have gotten Billie because he walked in a moment later.
"What's going on?!" he said, with that same look of Jakob's on his face. Before I could answer, Joey looked up.
"Go away! "he yelled at Billie. "I hate you!"

I had never heard him yell like that before. And that face he had. I'd never seen that, either. It was twisted into anger and hate. Billie stepped back with a hurt look on his face.
"J-Joey..." he said, his green eyes wide. He walked out the room.

***Billie's Point of View***

I ran to the bathroom. I set my hands on the counter and looked into the mirror. What just happened? How could he say something like that?

I became angry. I ran my fist into the mirror. It came back bloodied. It didn't hurt, remarkabley.

***Adie's POV***

I heard something break. Damnit, Billie. I got up and left Joey in the room. I ran down the hall past Jakob. He was crying.
"Baby what's wrong?" I said, kneeling down.
"Why is everyone mad at me?!" he cried.
"Babes, no one's mad at you." I picked him up and ran to the bathroom from which the sound had come from.

Billie stood there leaned over the counter looking into a shattered glass. His hand was bloody. His face looked exactly like Joey's had. I put Jakob down and sank to the floor.
I covered my face and screamed. "What is my family coming to?!" I yelled, looking up.
Jakob ran out the room crying. I could still hear Joey. Billie screamed at his broken reflection. I hadn't realized, but I was screaming too.

I stopped with a lurch. I looked at Billie. Still yelling. I wrapped my arms around his waist and pulled him down.
"What have I done to my son?!" he yelled toward the ceiling then pointed to it. "You made me do this! This is all your fault! How could you make me do this?!"
