All By Myself, All On My Own, chapter 4
I couldn't wait any longer for the signings then the concert. James actually began to like the clothes we picked out for him and we even got Jake a little outfit like a midget version of a Green Day member. He was adorable for a 5 year old to be so excited about meeting Green Day. We got little Jake a black shirt and some black jeans and a red tie to go with it. We showed him how to spike his short dark hair and we got him some new sneakers. We all looked like teenies really but we weren't. James wasn't even a huge fan and Jake really knew nothing about them besides what I told him only me and Kilana really liked them. I refused to let anyone see the outfit I had put together for myself it would be a surprise because it was one of the biggest projects I had worked on since I graduated from school. We got back from yet another long day spent in the city. It was only about 3:00 though so we stayed in our hotel rooms putting together the last bits of our new outfits and even showed little Jake how he looked with eyeliner on. It was so funny and Kilana didn't really like that her son was wearing it at his age but you have to admit he did look a little like Tre's twin. "Hey Jake go wash that off and we will go out for ice cream." I told him and watched him run into the bathroom standing on his toes holding a wash clothe under the sink then wiping himself off leaving black smudges on his cheeks and the cloth in his hands. "Close." I said coming in and taking a moist tissue and rubbing his skin under his eyes. "Do it that way so you don't make a mess." He didn't wait he ran back into the main room and choked himself pulling off his tie and then taking his shirt off. He pulled himself up onto the bed and took his shoes off and grabbed the blue striped T-shirt Kilana had put out for him and then pulled on his shorts then getting his original sneakers on he ran into the kitchen with Kilana's purse in his hand. "Oh so now I have to buy?" She laughed taking the bag from her son and putting it on her shoulder. "Ice cream!ice cream! ice cream!" He jumped up and down then ran around the room. "I don't think you need anymore sugar." I said grabbing him around the waist as he was running by and held him in my right arm. He started kicking but couldn't get away. "Is uncle Jamie coming?" he asked happily when I set him down. "Uncle Jamie huh?, no James isn't coming he's probably still trying to figure out how to get that make up off. Which reminds me don't you wanna get those spikes out of your hair by the way you charge into people with those horns of yours we'll be needing an ambulance or two." I laughed again watching him back away at what I said. "Aww but I like em and they ain't dangerous aunt Kiki promise." He said trying to plead but just going back to his happy little self in an instant.
We got to the ice cream shop and sat out on the benches in front of the store and over the speaker came an anouncer..."Don't forget people out there...This Saturday there is the Green Day concert at the city plaza don't wanna miss it...now here they are with Holiday..." The song started playing and me and Kilana started singing out the song. Jake tried to join in but didn't know the words. "It's them Green Day the peoples on the pictures and we gonna see em and soon and I can't wait can you take me to see them now?" He started bouncing in his seat smearing ice cream on his face when he tried to take a lick. "It's them!" He said getting out of his seat and running over to the sidewalk. "Jake! what are you doing?!?" Kilana said running after him me right behind her. "It's them!" He said pointing to the other side of the street. "Oh my god it is them." I said watching three figures on the other side of the street come out of some guitar store I couldn't really see the name and wasn't really paying attention but they got into a BMW and drove off. "Holy sh...! It is them!"Kilana shouted in excitment. We walked back over and took our seats. "Good eye Jake." I said throwing away my sticky napkin once I had finished. Kilana didn't say shit because she didn't want to swear in front of her son although it did no good since he was now a fan of the one and only Green Day. "And guess what we'll be seeing them in 3 more days!" I said doing a stupid little dance as I made my way back to my seat on the other side of the hyper little boy.
Two more days! sorry I keep reminding you but Jake won't shut up about it. Everything he says lately has to do with Green Day and he really doesn't even know them he's only heard a couple of their songs but already wants to be just like them tis scary really 'cause of how young he is and how he has acted lately. If I'm watching TV and leave the room for a quick second when I come back he'll be sitting on the couch flipping through all the music channels to see if they were on. It's like the person I introduced to them likes them better than me! I think the saddest part about this though is the fact he doesn't understand anything said in the song so he has no idea what they are talking about...Like Wake Me Up When September Ends he loves that song but doesn't know that it is about Billie Joe's dad dying...so sad.
One more day to go!
James and I spent another day alone and this time as a gift instead of a stuffed animal I went to the store again and the shelves were stocked with Green Day stuff. I bought Jake one of their older CDs, Dookie his fav. Since I gave it to him he has listened to it over and over on my CD player we'll need to get him his own. This Green Day CD was his very first CD so he didn't exactly know what to do after all he is little. I showed him how to use the CD player and put it in, that he can't scratch the CD's bottom side and how to get out and fold the lyrics page thing yeah I don't know exactly what it's called at the moment so don't bug me! I helped him redo his hair that morning so when he and Kilana walked around town he could look cool well that's what he said and he said this little girl he met on the playground was flirting with him and he was like back off I have a girlfriend and he didn't even know what flirting was! I couldn't stop laughing because of what he said I mean come on he was 5! We were teaching him bad stuff I think 'cause he said that some other kid was being mean to him because of the girl that he yelled at was his sister and I told him if anyone was mean to him to stick up his middle finger and he doesn't know what that means either but he does it all the time now and if someone gives him a dirty look he asks me what it means but I can't tell him I always say I'll tell you when you're older so each time he says "I'm 5 seconds older will you tell me?" He is just such a funny little boy. Kilana didn't care what he learned anymore she swore all the time and as long as he new that what she was saying was bad he didn't ever say it around us.
That night I helped him do 5 more drawings in my book and did 3 more of my own. Mine take longer they are more detailed than his simple doodles. We hung somemore over our beds. I even showed Kilana how to draw people easily so she could do some pretty cool pics too and join in the fun. She drew one of us at the Green Day concert together watching them preform in the huge crowd. She also drew what it may look like when Jake goes to get an autograph from them it would be so funny but according to her picture he would be shorter than the table which is possible but he probably won't. It was so much fun. James sat on the couch on my other side watching me sketch out a picture of me and him together and all these other family pictures lightly drawn for the background. I fell asleep that night possibly more excited than Jake if that was possible.
