Too Cool To Have A Name, chapter 1
Ashlyn
I awoke to the sound of my doorknob turning. Adelie stalked in gracefully and sat on the edge of my tiny mattress. She looked very pretty today, if I do say so myself. Her big brown eyes looked golden in the sunlight coming in from my window and her lips were set in a miniscule scowl. Her short blonde hair tucked behind her ears and her thin arms were crossed tightly across her chest. I always told her she'd make a stupendous cheerleader, but she merely laughed at the thought. Poor girl doesn't know her own beauty. Adelie moved the hair out of my eyes and walked over to the closet. She handed me a grey shirt and jeans. Yes, Adelie dressed me. Almost every morning, too. I don't know why she enjoys it so much. Her midnight-blue fingernails stumbled over a button-up colored shirt. She turned to me, her eyebrows raised. I shrugged and sat up. I stumbled over to the bathroom with a tight grasp on my clothes for the day. I was not what you called a morning person.
Once I was dressed, I walked down the hall, only to hear The Cranberries blasting through my speakers. Not only was it 8:30, but my mom also happened to be sleeping. But, none of that would stop Adelie from her daily music fix. I knew this, so I didn't bother turning it down. I just flopped down on my bed and watched Adelie rush around picking up dirty clothes. She was a great friend. And a very clean person. Actually, she was more like a babysitter, but hey, who's complaining? I never have to clean my room, do laundry, or cook. That's not to say that's the only reason I love Adelie, in a friendship way, that is. She is nice and funny and caring too. Pretty also. Whatever guy gets her is going to be a lucky guy. Me, I like someone else. Of course I can't tell Adelie this because she likes me. How do I know this? Well, I don't actually. I'm making an educated guess. Trust me, I think it's pretty cool that she likes me. I've seen guys throw themselves at her, but she doesn't seem to care. I have actually had guys come up to me and ask me for her number. That is my favourite part about Adelie; she isn't fazed by anything. She could sit in gum, stand up and act as if she had done it purposefully. She is a cool girl, that Adelie.
"Hey! Wake up silly!" she giggled as she sat next to me on my blue bedspread. She didn't giggle often, so I felt blessed.
"I am awake genius," I said jokingly. She sat up, a pout playing across her freckled face.
"Then let's go! School starts in. "She checked the alarm on the side of my bed, "twenty minutes. And, we're walking today." She stood up, only to bounce back down on my twin-sized mattress. She always found it funny that that I managed to fit in the tiny bed. I pushed her off the bed, and she landed with a thud. A victory for me, I thought with a smile. I held out my hand and helped her up. She dragged me to the mirror in the bathroom and forced me to look.
"Don't we just look adorable today?" Adelie asked in her cutesy voice as she pinched my cheeks. I wasn't bad looking I admit... I had longish, curly brown hair and green eyes. And my fair share with freckles. I'm the kind of guy most girls don't give second glances to. But that's okay. I only want the glance of one girl.
