Why Does It Always Rain On Me?, chapter 1

"Hurry!" my best friend yelled to me from her house.

"Don't you think I am!?!" I yell back at her, running up to her house already soaked from the rain.

As I got up to the porch I fell, face first in the mud. "Geez!" I said getting back up as quick, as I could and ran up on the porch, now muddy and wet.

"Great..." Mona said walking in her house.

"What?! It's your fault you made me come here when I could have been at home playing my guitar!!" I say following her in the house.

"Hey! Stay right there hold on!" she said running off and came back with a LOT of towels.

"It's not like your house isn't already dirty!" I said grabbing one of the towels out of her hands.
"Hey! Don't use that one! It's freaking white dummy! Can't you see!?" Mona said taking it back.
"Well you brought it out!" I said grabbing another one. This time it was black. "There! Happy!?" I said.
"Yes." Mona said walking off to put the other towels away. She came back a few minutes later with a bag.

"Here" she said throwing a black bag at me. "You're lucky you left that here or else you would have had to stand there the whole time."

"What is it?" I asked confused.
"Dude don't you recognize your own school bag, not like you use it but whatever." She said kind of annoyed.
"Oh! Okay I know now, I'm so stupid I forgot I left it here Saturday!" I said running off to her bathroom. I came back out wearing a different outfit, and dry.

"Dude I feel better." I said walking up the stairs and into her room. She followed me and pushed me into her room. "What's your problem!?" I said getting back up.

"Shut up! He'll hear you!" She said closing the door. "He came back just now."
I whisper, "Oh well you could have just told me that bastard of a step-father of yours is back."

Mona just looks at me and sits down on her bed, bass in hand. "Well hopefully tomorrow will come sooner."
"Tomorrow, is going to come and I can't wait till the concert!" I said jumping on her bed and sitting down.
"Shut up! I told you he'll hear you!"
"Relax, his probably passed out on the couch downstairs now."

We sat in the room silent for a while listening to the rain come down. I for one hated the rain, but Mona loved it.

"When is it going to stop raining?" I asked annoyed of it.
"I don't know, but I don't want it to stop" she said.
"Well whatever, so why did you make me come here?" I asked. "Just thought we'd hang out." She replied.
"Hang out? Hang out? Dude we could hang out any other time! I was busy playing my guitar trying to get the new song we're working on right! But you yell at me on the phone telling me to come over! To hang out!" I said sounding pissed. "I don't think that's the reason why you wanted me to come over."
"Okay fine... well I didn't want to be alone when he came home" Mona said pointing toward the door meaning her step-dad. "He's been acting weird around me lately and I don't like it."
"Acting weird? Like how?" I asked curiously.
"Well uh... I don't know, but all I know is I don't like it. And I don't want to be alone with him." She said sounding nervous.
"You know what it is, but I think I know what you mean, and if he did or does anything to you, tell me and I'll kick his ass." I said sounding serious now. "Thanks" Mona said sitting up.

A few minutes later there was a knock on the door and Mona jumped a little. Then she got up and answered it. Of course it was her step-dad, and looked really drunk.

"Who's in there with you?" the drunk, bastard asked.
"Lynn is here, and we're kind of busy with school work so don't bother us." She said closing the door on him and locking the door.
"Wow I didn't think you would have it in you to do that." I said surprised of her action.
"I know, it's weird I can be tough when you're around. But then when you leave I get scared." She said sitting on the floor.
"Yep because I'm the bad ass and you copy me" I said laughing.
"I do not copy you!" she said.
"Sure you don't" I said trying to make her mad.
"I don't." Mona said getting up and putting in Dookie Green Day's new CD into the stereo. I sigh at the sound of Billie's voice, Mike's bass and Tre's drum beat.
"Come on! Why can't it be tomorrow already!" I yell, because the next day we were going to see Green Day in concert. It was going to be fun because we won tickets to see them on stage and after the concert backstage.
"Boy I can't wait to see the look on Billie's face when he sees us again Mona." I said smiling.
"Yeah me either, I wonder if Mike and him remember us." Mona said staring at one of her Green Day posters. Billie and Mike were our best friends in high school. But Billie dropped out and Mike just stopped going on day during Junior year.
"Hopefully they will, because if they don't I'm going to punch that punk in the face!" I said making a fist. Mona and I both laugh at that, because Billie use to say 'punch that punk' when ever someone would make fun of me.
"Well they should I mean we were the only people they hung out with, well except Tre and all too." Mona said changing the song to When I Come Around.
"Yep but we'll have to wait and see until tomorrow." I said looking out the window, it had stopped raining. "Finally! I've been waiting for it to stop!" I said jumping up.

"Hey Mona?" I asked.
"Yeah?" she said looking over to me.
"You want to ditch your house and sleep over at mine so you don't have to worry about 'the guy'?" I asked using finger motion when I said 'the guy'.
"Hell yeah lets go!" she said jumping up and digging in her drawer for some clothes. "Alright, ready" Mona said stuffing the clothes into a bag.
"Wait, what about your mom?" I asked.
"She'll say it's okay beside she has Jake to take care of her." Mona said. Jake was her brother that didn't really like their step-dad either.
"True" I said unlocking the door and walking out.

She nudged me as a signal to be quiet. I nodded and walk down the stairs and out the door with her.

When we got to my house I let out a sigh. "Here we go again." I said and walked in...
