Vampire Hearts., chapter 2
"Anne!" I woke up to my brother shaking me. I sat up and shook my head. "Are you okay? You screamed, and you're teeth..." he trailed off. I brought my hand to my mouth, running my finger over my "fangs". I hated calling them that, though there was no other word. I nodded at London, telling him that I would be fine. He stood, bringing me to my feet. "I'm going out. Be careful."
"I'll be fine." I assured him. He nodded and left my room. I walked out, heading towards the kitchen, still wondering why we all had one. I poured myself a glass of 'wine' and sat down at the long dining room table.
"Hey Anne, sleep well?"
"Morning Jade. I slept okay, how 'bout you?" I said to my closest friend.
"I had a dream..." He told me.
"I had one too. About that night." I replied.
"Yeah, that one. I think we all had it. Derek said he did too." We knew that each dream was different in itself, but same in someway. Vapir was the one who brought me to the mansion. Jade was brought by Derek, but Devon, our other friend, didn't know how he came to be like this, he has no memory of anything before here.
Ever since that night, I've called this house my home, my twin brother joined me after I had convinced Vapir to leave him alone. I missed being a twin, technically we still were, but I remained 16, while London grew older, now 25. My mother and father understood that I could not remain with them, and London followed me, vowing to protect me.
Jade stood and took my hand in his, beckoning for me to follow him. I abandoned my glass and walked after him to the fourth floor. He took me to the last empty room in the house and stopped.
"I only know this because I snuck over here last night, I found Vapir here and he told me not to tell. He gave me the trust to confide this in you, and you only." Jade told me, before swinging the door open. I peered in to see a young girl laying in the bed.
"Is she..." I began to ask. Jade shook his head in reply. It was an unspoken rule not to bring in one so young. Curiosity swept over my mind and I stepped into the room. She was sleeping, though it wasn't voluntary. I could see that she was under some influence.
"Anne." Jade called. "Come with me." I turned and walked out of the room, closing the door and following Jade to his room on the second floor. I sat on his bed, questions circling my mind.
"Why is she here?" I asked aloud. Jade sat in a chair, opposite to me.
"He wouldn't tell me. It's obvious though. He's bored, he needs someone new." Jade answered.
"But why so young? He knows its forbidden." I asked as there was a knock on the door. "Come in Devon." I called out. He walked in and sat next to me.
"What's up?" he questioned, catching on to our confusion. I looked over to Jade and stood.
"I need to speak with Vapir." I told them before exiting the room and walking back up to the fourth floor. I walked to the very end of the longest hall, knocking on the door.
"I've been waiting for you Anne." Vapir answered, pulling the door open for me to enter. "I suspect you've seen her, and that is why you're here." I nodded. "Well, I assume you have questions, hoping that I have the answers." I nodded again. He motioned for me to sit; I did.
"What's her name?" I inquired first.
"Charlotte."
"Where did she come from?"
"I took her from her home. Her father had left, and her mother had died. She was an orphan." He replied.
"Why did you bring her here? She's too young, it's forbidden."
"It isn't completely forbidden, what I have done. She isn't yet one of us. This house needs a change. It's getting old. I think that one so young could bring in that change." A knock came as he finished his sentence. Vapir looked to me.
"It's Derek." I told him. He nodded and stood, I followed, leaving the room as Derek entered. I walked back down to my room. Dressing and putting on my cloak.
"Where are you going?" I heard Devon ask as I walked out the front door.
"Out." I replied simply.
