Vampire Hearts., chapter 3

I stepped out, dodging the sunlight and stepped into shadows. I heard footsteps behind me and turned around, knowing full well who it was, to see Jade following me.

"ANNE! Where are you going?!" he yelled after me. I stopped, waiting for him to catch up.

"Follow me." I said, turning back around and heading down a familiar road. I lead him into the gates of the cemetery. "I've been away for far too long." I told myself as I brushed the Ivy away from the tomb I sat on so many years ago.

"Is this it?" Jade asked. I nodded, sitting as I used to do. Once again studying my wrists. The scars were gone. He took my wrist in his hand, just as Vapir had done. Feeling where the scars had been. He looked into my eyes, deriving all from my past.

As many of the elders would say, the 'Dark Gift' was different for each of us. Jade could see into other's pasts, Devon could erase any part of a person's memory, I hadn't discovered the full limit of my powers, for now I could see who was coming and what they wanted before they spoke. Now, Jade could see the scars, he could see that night, and he could see all before it.

"Isn't it interesting?" I wondered aloud.

"What?" Jade asked, sitting next to me.

"How so many of us are fascinated by what we will never have to see." He nodded his head in agreement. "We are curious to what we will never have."

"Ah, but we already have it."

"What do you mean?"

"We've all tasted death. We've all seen past it, and yet not many of us will end up here." I explained. "It's also interesting how many of our gifts back fire, or end up as something we've been trying to get away from."

"Yeah. Devon erases memory, and can't remember anything. Vapir was always afraid of what would happen to him next, and now he can se it all." Jade said.

"Exactly. I loved a mystery in a person, and know I now their intentions; and of course there's you. Trying to run from your past, and now you can see everyone else's... See, this is why I used to come here. I always thought of everything that I never really realized." We sat in silence for a while, looking around at what many longed for the most. We stayed long enough for the sun to set, leaving us to roam freely. I realized I hadn't drunk since that morning.

"Let's go into town." Jade suggested. I smiled, knowing it was our turn to have some fun.

"Let's go." I agreed. We would usually rid the town of useless people. The blood of a good person couldn't compare to the sweetness of a selfish bastard. We usually found them at clubs, Jade would take the slut, while I went after the evil-doers. Every once in a while we would treat our selves to a musician back stage. Tonight we were to give our selves a present.

We walked into town stopping at a familiar night club, one that always had live music. Tonight was no exception. We snuck in the back door, slipping silently past the guards. That was another high point of being a vampire, we could seem invisible.

Jade watched as I sat, flirting with two of the band members. I looked to Jade and he nodded, silently telling me where to take them. I lured the two very drunken men into a restroom, locking the door and turning out the lights. I turned one over to Jade, though I don't thing he noticed. I played with the other, taking my time before sinking my fangs into his neck. I stopped right before the heart did, leaving him on the cold tile. A scream echoed the hallways as we exited, smiles on our faces.

We returned to the mansion at a little past twelve. Each going our separate ways, back to our rooms. I found London sitting on my bed, looking worried. He looked up as I entered.
