Until Death Do Us Part, chapter 1
The clouds hung low in the sky, as Alex sunk against the ice cold, white-wash wall, empty tears seeping down her face. She felt numb with fear, but she knew what she wanted to do. She wanted to die.
Alex had been feeling the pressure build up inside her for the past few months. She knew at one point she would explode. Things were getting out of hand, she couldn't take the pain anymore, it was like a throbbing toothache of the mind. Alex felt as if her life was getting out of control, she couldn't keep up with it anymore.
'You don't have to live through this, you could end it now, stop the pain, no one would care so why not put a stop to it now... ?' her conscience had been playing on her mind for the past few months, it was like a stuck record, saying the same thing over and over again. She had been trying to push these thoughts to the back of her mind, but they were getting so out of hand, she had given in and decided to do what was best... or was it?
Alex looked at her wrist, and then to the knife she had been holding in her hand. Her heart was pounding inside her chest, faster and faster with every breath she inhaled. She looked at herself in the mirror, which was hanging lopsided on the opposite wall. Cold empty eyes stared back at her; she didn't even recognise herself anymore.
With one last look at the pale image she saw before her, Alex thrust the knife across her wrist. Screaming in pain, Alex screwed her eyes up not daring to look at the damage she had caused. Alex felt herself panting to breathe, her eyesight was slowly fading causing everything to flash and go out of focus, as if she had just had her photo taken, but only worse. A lot worse. After one last swipe across her now swollen and bloody wrist, only with less effort than before as she felt her strength decrease rapidly, everything went into slow motion, as if someone had hit the pause button on a remote control.
Alex felt the knife, which was dripping with her crimson blood, slip from her hand to the wooden floor. A clanging sound filled the room. At that moment, the door to the room was pushed open. Alex struggled to see who had entered, but all she could make out was an over shadowing figure, with dark hair lean over her. Then it all went black.
