Until Death Do Us Part, chapter 5
"What the hell are you doing Calli?" Alex screeched to her 'friend'. Calli just hung her head and bit her lip. "Are you deaf or something? I said what are you doing with my husband?" Alex shouted once more. Steve decided to cut in and said "look it's not what it seems Alex"
"Oh so some force of nature managed to magically suck you two together!" Alex replied, clenching her fists. "Well I'm so sorry for interrupting, I'll just go now and oh yeah you might want this" Alex said angrily, whilst yanking the ring Steve had given her, the ring, which meant eternal love. Once the ring was off, she thrust it at Steve and rushed out of the room with tears streaming down her face. She didn't know where she was going, but her feet seemed to take her to a room. She banged on the door trying to calm her breathing, but failing. After about a minute, the door opened and Alex found she was once again staring into the most perfect emerald green eyes. Billie didn't have to ask if she wanted to come in but instead moved out the way and signalled for her to enter.
Alex collapsed on a nearby chair, and broke down into uncontrollable tears. She had loved Steve and her brain couldn't put the pieces together as to why he had betrayed her. Billie just stood opposite her with his hands in his pockets looking at Alex with concern. When a few minutes had passed, Alex had managed to calm down enough so that she could talk. "Billie I don't know what to do anymore" Alex sobbed. Billie stared at her distraught face scanning it for answers. "What's happened Alex?" he finally asked.
All Alex could get out was the two simple words 'Steve' and 'Calli'. Alex looked down at her feet, her hair hanging limply across her face. Billie slowly walked over to Alex and bent down so he was eye to eye with her. He placed a hand over Alex's, which immediately brought back the thoughts of the day in hospital. But he didn't let go, she needed the support after all. The room fell silent apart from the distant noise of traffic outside. Billie gently lifted Alex's chin up so she was eye to eye with him and said "it's been a long time Alex, and I know I did wrong and shouldn't have let you fall into this mess, but I still care for you, always have and always will" Alex connected with his eyes and gave a weak smile. Deep inside her she still cared for Billie even though he had betrayed her at the hospital all those years ago. "I know Billie" Alex replied. The two were left staring into each other's eyes, with thoughts streaming across their brains about one another.
After a while of holding Alex close for comfort, Billie got up and headed for a door on the opposite side of the room. Alex sat there gazing around the room, taking in what she had just experienced, whilst waiting for Billie to return. He came back holding an electric guitar in one hand. The guitar was black with deep red stripes across it. It had his initials at the bottom, B.J.A. Alex smiled, sniffing slightly, and told Billie that she didn't know he was in a band. "Yeah I've been in a band for the past 16 years now, that guy that you were with backstage earlier, he's the drummer, a bit of a Casanova really. Our bass player is called Mike, I've known him for a while now, we went to college together, and I'm the main vocals and guitarist. Our band's called 'Green Day' and we've made it quite big over here in England". Alex was impressed at what Billie had become. He didn't seem the type to become a big rock star all those years back, but it suited him now and Alex was pleased for him.
"So are you the band that I did the opening show for?" Alex asked.
"Yeah, you were pretty good, really good in fact. You have a magnificent voice, I mean you always had a magnificent voice when we were young, but now it sounds so velvety and smooth. A real talent you've got there Alex you know". Billie replied flashing his Grammy winning smile. Alex felt pleased and could feel herself burning red once again.
"I feel really embarrassed to say I haven't heard of you before, name me some songs you've played, I might pick up on them if I hear the title" Alex asked
"Well you'll just wait and see what songs we've done, we're playing some new songs and some of our old classics, I'll get you a place at the front of the crowd if you want, that way you'll be able to take it all in better"
"Ok thanks Billie, oh and Billie before you go I just want to say thanks for everything and you're a real mate" Alex said placing a hand on Billie's shoulder and squeezing it. Alex then turned round and said "well I guess I'll see you in a minute then Billie". With that she walked out the door and Billie was standing in the middle of the room, still smiling like a Cheshire cat. His insides felt like mush and his legs had turned to jelly. He had never felt that way about anyone before. Not even his wife Adrienne. Hmmm Billie thought, what had just happened there?
