Until Death Do Us Part, chapter 6
Alex made her way to the very front of the crowd, which a lot of people moaned and groaned at, as she had to push her way through. Finally she was at the front of the vast crowd and waited with excitement for Billie's band to come on and perform. She joined in on the punk motto that the crowd were screaming at the top of their lungs. "Hey, oh let's go!" she screeched over and over again with the crowd. After a while the lights on the stage went down and music blared out of the speakers, causing the ground underneath her to vibrate. The whole atmosphere was amazing, Alex felt great to be part of the crowd and all the horrible thoughts of her husband and Calli before quickly disintegrated to the back of her mind.
She saw three figures walk onto the stage, and quickly recognised Billie and Tre. She thought to herself that the third member had to be Mike. And she was right as he took his place to the right of Billie in a rock'n'roll stance gripping his bass guitar. Tre walked over to his drum set, which was placed behind Billie, and stood on his stool holding his drumsticks in the air as if he was conducting an orchestra. Then Billie took his position at the front, holding his guitar and he went straight into a song, no words spoken to the crowd, and the others joined in. Alex was blown away at the high quality of music they were playing. She listened carefully to the lyrics as she jumped up and down with the crowd. Alex recognised the song straight away, she had heard it on the radio a couple of times before, but had never registered it to be Billie singing. Billie had the most sensational voice; it was dreamy but had the tone of a rocker at the same time which amazed Alex even more at how he could pull that off.
Once the first song was over Billie introduced the band to the crowd which Alex thought was a silly thing to do as she expected they would know the name of the band that they came to listen to. Throughout the rest of the first part of the concert, Billie caught Alex's eye a couple of times and smiled. Alex would now and then give the thumbs up to show her approval. After an agonising wait for the band to come back onstage, Alex finally saw Billie enter from the right followed once again by mike and Tre. A more slow song started up this time. It was called 2000 Light Years Away and Alex couldn't help but notice that throughout the whole song Billie was staring intensely at her. This made Alex feel rather uncomfortable, but she tried to ignore it and swayed her arms in the air with the rest of the crowd. She also noticed the lyrics to the song were about a girl Billie couldn't get hold of and that he missed her. It sounded a lot like our past Alex thought to herself.
Alex was so wrapped up in her thoughts, that she jumped out of her skin when sound came blaring out of the speakers for the start of a different song, this was more rocky like the others had been. Alex really did try to concentrate on having a good time and jumping around with the crowd again, but she couldn't help but think about the way Billie had been staring at her, and before she knew it the lights went down on the stage again and fireworks were shot into the star filled sky to end the concert. Alex felt slightly disappointed that she hadn't been able to mosh properly during the last part, but was happy to have been included in it all the same.
As the crowd made their way towards the exit gates, Alex headed for the backstage door so she could collect her guitar to go home. However she made a point of saying good bye to Billie before she left so she made her way to his dressing room first of all. The butterflies had returned to her stomach as she felt nervous. She tried to tell herself it was only Billie and didn't understand why she was feeling like this towards him. It made her feel numb with worry.
As she found the correct door to Billie's dressing room, she took a deep breath and tapped on the door. She waited for a while, but no one answered. She knocked again. Still no once answered so she felt it would be ok if she just went in. she turned the door handle, and stepped inside. The room was deserted, so Alex made her way to the door at the back where Billie fetched his guitar from earlier that evening. She peeked her head round the door to find Billie on the end of his bed sobbing. She called his name and he looked up suddenly like a rabbit caught in the headlights. He mumbled something that Alex registered as a weak 'hi' so she walked towards him. His face looked pale and his usual sparkling eyes looked sad. He looked like a puppy that had been left out in the rain as he sat there with puppy dog eyes, and his hair matted against his face.
