Until Death Do Us Part, chapter 8
One day after returning from her new job, as she couldn't face working with Calli again, Alex did her usual routine of placing the car keys on top of the microwave and went to check the messages on the answer machine. She clicked the button which was flashing telling her she had a message. Billie's voice played out of the speakers. Alex stopped dead in her tracks to listen to what he was saying. She was glad he found her number which she wrote down and placed on the table in his dressing room because even though they left on a funny note the day of the concert, she still wanted to keep in touch. As she listened, Billie asked her to meet him at the Hard Rock Café on London high street.
Alex was glad to hear he was still in town and jotted down the time he had asked her to meet him, and then rushed upstairs to get ready. It took Alex ages to find a good enough outfit to wear, even though her mind was telling her it was only Billie she was meeting, not a hot date or anything. Whilst the two people inside her head kept on bickering, Alex settled to wear her black jeans, red jacket and black converse. She then applied some black eye liner and combed her hair through, leaving it hanging around her shoulders like she normally did.
Once ready, Alex left a note for Danny explaining why she wasn't going to be home when he came back from school, then headed out to the car. As she drove to London high street, the nerves shot back to her as once again she replayed the kiss they had shared. Her hands were shaking, and she felt her breathing getting heavier. As she managed to drive along, she nearly backed out of the idea of meeting up with Billie, but reassured herself that everything was going to be ok and that she most probably imagined the kiss that night anyway. However, deep down she knew that what she felt was true, there was no denying it and the feelings she felt for Billie wouldn't go away.
After 10 minutes, Alex pulled up into the car park outside hard rock café; she took one glance inside the window and saw a figure looking eagerly out the window. She could tell immediately it was Billie even though he was wearing black shades, and had a hoody pulled over his head in case of any media lurking around ready to pounce on him at any time. Alex entered the café and a 'ding' filled the room signalling her entrance. Billie's head shot up to look at the door and Alex could see a wide smile spread across his face as he was glad to see her.
"I was worried you wouldn't come Alex!" Billie said, still wearing his smile on his face.
"And why wouldn't I come?" Alex asked, still shaking inside, barely able to breath.
"Well, I just thought, oh it doesn't matter" Billie said indicating for Alex to sit down next to him.
Alex took her seat and there was an awkward silence between the two. The silence was suddenly broken by Billie.
"So erm, I just wanted to clear things up between us" Billie said squinting slightly as the sun shone down on him. Alex looked up at him, his eyes glistening in the sunlight.
"Well, the night of the concert, I erm, I didn't mean to, you know, well what I mean to say is... " Billie was cut off by Alex.
"It's ok Billie, we were caught up in a moment and neither of us meant anything" Alex lied. Both of them knew full well that it had meant something. For a moment Billie looked disappointed, but quickly covered it up.
"Oh, well, yeah that's what I was going to say" Billie also lied. The pair of them were lying so bad that it's a wonder that their noses hadn't doubled in size. Alex smiled a fake smile and decided quickly to change the subject away from their feelings for each other.
"So what's happening with you, Tre and Mike, what are you going to be doing before you head off for California?" Alex asked trying to sound calm.
"Well not much really, just hanging out and cruising the town" replied Billie.
"What about you?" he asked.
"Well Danny's going up north to meet his old school friends for the weekend, but I can't give him a lift so I might have to let him down on that"
"Oh, well I could give him a lift if you wanted" Billie offered.
"Oh no you don't have to do that, it's alright I'll find someone" Alex replied
"No honestly I want to, it's the least I can do after all these years" he said. Billie hated bringing up the past as he knew it hurt Alex too much but it just slipped out. Alex flinched but finally gave in and agreed Billie could give Danny a lift up north.
"Well thanks Billie, and it's nice to talk to you again, but I've got to go, see you about 8'o clock tomorrow morning, and thanks again" Alex said, her voice fading off as she headed out the door of the café.
