My Tears Distill My Blood, chapter 1

I was nervous as hell.
That would explain it.

I had just enrolled in the local high school after a year and a semester at a god forsaken Christian academy. I was always in trouble there. Cussing, dressing "funny", or just causing a loud "ruckus". I was the rebel in that place, and I was finally out.

And I was nervous as hell.
I was coming back a changed girl...I was a total idiot in public school before.

*flashback*

"You're ugly Mel! Ha ha!" The little seventh grade me turned around to see Robert sneering in my face.

"Go away...just leave me alone." I whimpered, tears beginning to form in my eyes.

"You stupid cop kid! Awww....you gonna cry? Awww...!" he jeered. I turned away, tears began to fall from my eyes. Robert laughed, smacking my binder out of my arms and tossing it in the trash can.

"Cop bitch." he spat as he walked away.

"Melissa, are you ready to go?" My mom asked grabbing her car keys.

"Yeah I think so..." I said taking one last look in the mirror. The Mel face stared back at me.

'I hope they accept me again...' I thought.

***

I arrived. Candale High School. Home of the Bears.
I sucked in a long breath...and walked in.

As I entered the doors I got some interesting stares...of course! I was the new kid, arriving at the beginning of a semester, but that gives people no right to stare at me! I walked into the band room. Old band aquantences stared.

"Hey...Mel." One said. I smiled.

"Hey...where's Mrs. Cadence?" I asked

"She should be here any minute" Someone said.

"Thanks...I'll wait I guess."

I walked around the band room a little. Memories of middle school band came flooding over me. I smiled...so many inside jokes...and the old band teacher was a laugh riot...with a terrible temper. I scowled at the thought. I heard someone behind me...

"Are you Melissa?" I turned to see Mrs. Cadence...the short teacher with a beautiful smile.

"Yes! Yes I am...you can call me Mel if you want." I said shaking her hand.

"Well, welcome back to the band. I'll see if I can't get you settled!" she said with a smile.

***
I walked nervously into the commons. I had to find out where horticulture was.

"ALICIA!" I yelled. My best friend turned around.

"Mel! Hey!" she said hugging me. I felt eyes on me. I glanced to my right and saw a tall figure, with a girl I knew hanging all over him. His eyes seemed sad, and he looked like he wasn't into that girl. I instantly felt bad for him. I could see it in his eyes. For a moment our eyes met...and then we both looked away.

"Mel...hey...ADD! Focus!" she said.

"Oh...uh sorry. Where's Hort?" I asked.

"I don't know" She said with an innocent smile

"ALICIA! You've been going here for a year and a half and you don't even know where it is?"

"It's in the metal shop building," A girl said. I turned around and saw Kjersti...the girl hanging around the tall guy.

I was scared of her, she kinda looked mean, and she was really preppy, but she was one of Alicia's other good friends. I heard she was a real slut.

"I know cuz im in that class." She continued.

"Ok, let's go then so we aren't late." Alicia said glancing at the clock. I felt eyes on me again, but I didn't turn around.

"90 more minutes of class til lunch...what a drag" Kjersti groaned.

"You just want to fool around with John Kjersti, shut up." Alicia sighed.

"I know...Im bad." she replied with a bad girl look on her face.

I had a bad feeling about her.

And plus, I wasn't sure how I was going to handle 90 minute class periods...snore.

***

It was break again.

"MEL! Hey! Sit with me!" My friend Kristin yelled across the commons. I nervously walked over and sat next to her.

"I gotta introduce you to everyone. Hey guys this is Mel!" I got a few "heys" and "Hi's" from some people.

"That's Joe...that's Cortlin...that's Kalee...that's Jake..." Kristin started with the introductions...

"And the one that Kjersti is attatched at the cooter to is Johnathon." I looked up to see the tall guy. He smiled a little. He was really tall, with lots of ear piercings that were gaged, and I could see he had a toungue ring when Kjersti pulled on it. He wore a black beanie with a green nautical star on it, and he had pretty green eyes, just like Billie Joe Armstrong. He was punk...that was obvious. He screamed punk, and the essence of punk was all around him. Kjersti flirtily pulled his beanie off and put it on...he didn't care that his brown wavy hair was sticking straight up...it didn't even look bad. Our eyes met again...but this time we both smiled.

I got into a catch up conversation with Kristin, but I wasn't really into it. I kept stealing glaces at John, who seemed pre-occupied with Kjersti all over him. His eyes looked sad. He didn't seem like he was really into her being all over him all the time. He barely talked. Eventually he got up and walked outside.

I didn't like Kjersti. Something about her wasn't right. I'd heard way too many things about her. She was going behind her parents back to date John...and they weren't even dating. They were pretty much fool around partners...and they were "unofficially together." Something just wasn't right about that. I had a bad feeling...

***

The day ended. I was tired. 90 minute class periods suck. But I'd had a good day.

***

A week or two dragged on...and the band had to play for a basket ball game. I arrived, pulled out my clarinet, and started warming up. My friend Charlie was there.

"Mel...I have to leave soon but I'll be back." she said.

"Why?" I asked.

"Vikki and I are going to go pick up John, we'll be back kay?"

I nodded. 'Great. Someone to embarrass myself in front of' I frowned.

We played Smoke on the Water as the team came in...and started playing. I hated it...but it was kinda fun. I felt a tap on my shoulder.

"Hey Charlie." I smiled. A pair of green eyes met mine. I saw him.

The band played on, and I got to talking with Charlie and John. This guy was interesting. He and Kjersti had broken it off, which left him heart broken...but he was happy this night. He smiled a lot. That made something inside me a little bit happier. Charlie...as usual said something stupid. I looked at her wide-eyed. I opened them as wide as I could.

"WHooah! Creepy Mel! Stop! I don't like that! ACK!" Charlie said pushing my face away as I started to laugh.

"Hey, she has awesome eyes!" John said. I smilled.

"Really?" I asked

"Yeah." He grinned. I felt myself blush, so I looked away.

***
The Bears won...and we played our fight song.

"Heck Yes people! Bears won!" I said jumping up and down mimicking the nasty chearleader whores we have at our school.

"Oh YAY!" Johnathon said in a high voice raising his arms up. Then he hugged me.

"It was nice meeting you tonight Mel...well...I mean really meeting you." I blushed.

"It was nice meeting you too." I said smiling, hoping he didn't see me blushing.

It hit me. I had a new crush.
