The New Daughter of the Family. (Sequel to An Angel's Voice.), chapter 13
Billie sat at the window, staring into space.
"BJ?" Mike said cautiously, poking his head around the corner. "You ok?" Billie just continued to look out the window. Mike sighed. "Come on, Billie. It's been two months since she got kidnapped. You haven't eaten or slept in days. You smell like shit... And you've been sitting at this window for weeks. We've done all we can, Billie. We've called the police, they're still looking for her.... We've put signs up everywhere. There's nothing more to do. Now come on, come and eat." Billie shook his head.
"She's coming back, Mike. And I'll be right here. Waiting for her to come back." Mike sighed.
"Billie....come on." Billie shook his head again. Mike shook his head and walked out. He went into the kitchen, where he found Jakob sitting at the counter, thinking hard about something.
"Mike..." He said, looking up at him. "Where's Sara? She's been gone a long time." Mike sighed. No one told Jakob that Sara had been kidnapped. Adie felt it better that he didn't know.
"I told you a million times, she's at camp."
"I don't believe you. She's been there forever. When is she coming back?" Mike looked out the window, a sad and longing look on his face.
"I wish I knew," He whispered.
"What?" Jakob asked, eyeing him. Mike cleared his throat.
"Uh, soon. Very soon." Jakob sighed.
"That's what you said last month." He slid off the stool and into the living room where Billie was still staring out the window. "Watcha lookin' at?"
"I'm waiting for your sister to come home." He said sadly.
"Oh. Where'd she go?"
"A mad, dirty, bad man took her." Jakob laughed.
"Good one, dad. Seriously, where is she?" Billie looked at him.
"Don't you get it?" He asked angrily. "Some dumbfuck took her. And she's gone because of me!" Jakob backed away, looking horrified. "SHE'S GONE AND SHE'S NEVER COMING BACK! SO GET USED TO IT!" Jakob screamed and ran upstairs. Billie sat back on the chair and cried. "She's not coming back," He whispered. "And it's all my fault."
Three weeks later
"Nice to see someone finally took a shower," Mike said, watching Billie come downstairs. Billie ignored him and grabbed a cup of coffee. "Eating something?" He shook his head. Mike just sighed and went to watch television. The phone wrang. Billie sighed sadly and picked it up.
"What?" He answered, sounding meloncholy and mad.
"Is this the Armstrong residence?" A man asked on the other side.
"Who wants to know?"
"This is the police. We need you to come down town immediatley." Billie felt his heart leap.
"Did you find her? Is she ok?" But the police officer hung up. Billie looked around frantically for his shoes. He slid them on and grabbed his car keys.
"Where are you going?" Mike asked.
"To my baby," He answered, running out the door. Mike jumped up and, without putting his shoes on, grabbed his keys and followed Billie in his car.
Billie burst through the door of the police station and ran to the front desk.
"Where is she?" He asked. The secretary looked confused and scared.
"May- May I have your name please?" She stuttered. Billie pounded his fist on the desk top.
"WHERE THE FUCK IS SHE!?" He screamed at her. She backed away. Two police officers came to her aid.
"Sir," The police officer said sternly. "Calm down and tell me what-"
"I WANT MY DAUGHTER DAMMIT! NOW WHERE IS SHE!?"
"We're going to have to ask you to leave, sir." He grabbed Billie and tried to throw him out the door. Billie struggled free and turned to the secratery.
"I ASKED YOU A QUESTION! AND IT IS YOUR JOB TO ANSWER IT! NOW WHERE IS MY-"
"Daddy?" He heard a small voice say. He whirrled around and laid his eyes on the greatest sight he had ever seen. It was her. The one he was waiting for. His beautiful daughter. She had barley any clothes on. Just a pair of old shorts and a big police jacket.
"It's you." He said, sinking to his knees. She had tears in her eyes. They stood there for what seemed like forever. The whole building was silent and watching the whole episode. Finally, Sara broke into a run and jumped into her father's arms, knocking him to the floor. He kissed her face and neck over and over again. Mike ran into the building and froze. He saw the tow back together and sunk to the floor, looking as happy as he could be.
"It's her." He sat and watched along with the everyone else.
"My baby," Billie said happily, in between kisses. "I finally have you back in my arms. And I'm never letting you go. I missed you so much." He picked her up and held her as tight as he could.
"I missed you too, daddy." She dug her face into his neck. He wiped away his tears and hoisted himself up, still holding his daughter. He turned to the secretary, who was now crying like everyone else.
"No hard feelings?" She shook her head. Billie smiled. He turned to Mike.
"She's your again, dude," Mike said, sniffling. Billie laughed and embraced Mike in a hug. "Come on." Mike said, pulling away. "I'll drive you home."
They walked out of the building and to Mike's car. Mike got in the driver's seat and Billie sat up front, Sara sitting comfortably in his lap. He held her and kissed her face over and over.
