The New Daughter of the Family. (Sequel to An Angel's Voice.), chapter 14
Billie carried her inside where she was smothered with kisses from her mother and Jakob and Joey. Sara cried along with everyone else. She was slightly disappointed, for she didn't see Tre anywhere.
"Where's Tre?" She asked, after all of the crying had died down. Everyone sat in the kitchen, Billie holding her protectivley in his lap. Adie looked at Mike with a worried face. Mike turned to Sara and sighed.
"Well, ever since you... well... left, he has been going to the bar and getting drunk. He hasn't been home for weeks. So, unless he's at the bar, we have no idea." Sara stood up and made for the door.
"Well, we have to go find him!" Billie grabbed her arm and dragged her back into the kitchen.
"Wait. We need to establish some new rules..." He looked from Adrienne, to Mike, to Sara. "First off, you are not aloud to go anywhere unless me, your mother, or Mike is with you."
"What about Tre?"
"No. He's not a responsible person. Second off, you are to be picked up and dropped off from school by one of us... No more walking."
"So technically I'm not aloud to step outside without a responsible adult?"
"Exactly. And Tre doesn't count." He scowled. "Neither does Gerard." Sara looked at him.
"Why?"
"Because, I said so. Is that clear?"
"But dad, Gerard didn't do anything. He-"
"I said is that clear?" He said strictly. Sara looked at her feet.
"Crystal."
"Good." He looked up at Mike. "Lets go find Tre." Mike nodded and made his way to the door.
"Wait." Sara said, jumping up. "I want to go with-"
"No." Mike and Billie said in unison. Sara looked taken aback, but stayed put.
"Billie, this is the eighth bar we've been to. I think we should just give up and go home." Billie turned into the parking lot and turned off the ignition.
"Mike, we can't. For some odd and strange reason, Sara loves Tre. And I think we kind of over did it with the whole relationship thing." Mike just looked at him.
"So you're saying that you're ok with them being together?" Billie sighed.
"I guess."
"Dude, you are crazy." Billie dug his head into his hands.
"I know I am." He moaned.
"Well, you're the dad." He sighed. "Let's go find him." They got out of the car and entered the bar. It was very crowded. They pushed and shoved thier way to where the bartender was wiping glasses and setting them on the shelf.
"Excuse me, sir." Billie said loudly. The man turned and looked tiredly at Billie. "Have you seen our friend? He's about yay tall," He held his hand up to show Tre's height. "He's got brown hair, in a faux hawk..."
"You mean that guy there?" He pointed to a man sitting alone on a bar stool, beer bottles surrounding him. Tre. "Poor sap's been here for months. Says he lost the love of his life. I hear that alot.... But he's seems really down." Billie and Mike thank the bartender and walk over to Tre.
"Tre?" Billie taps his shoulder, causing Tre to turn around, looking startled. Then, he smiled.
"Heeeeeeey, Billieeeeee!" He slurred. "How you doin'? And you brought Mikey!" He slapped Mike on his shoulder. "How's it goin', Mikey boy?"
"Tre, come home." Billie said, sitting next to him. "Why are you here?" Tre looked at the ground, sniffling.
"You took her away from me." He clutched his bottle angrily. He looked up at Billie, madness in his eyes. "You! You took her! She left because of you! We fucking loved each other, man! And now she's probably sitting at the bottom of some lake." He started laughing to himslef.
"She's dead. Sleeping with the fishes." He looked at Billie, laughing. "And you did it to her." He laughed uncontrollably. "We were fucking head over heals in love with each other." He held on to Billie for support. "And you..." He looked up at Billie, laughing. "Look what you've done." Billie just stared at Tre.
"But Tre," Mike said, trying to keep Billie from pounding Tre to the ground. "We found her. She's alive." Tre stopped laughing and looked at Mike.
"What?"
"That's right. We found her. Come home, Tre. She's dying to see you." Tre looked at Billie. Billie nodded, trying to control his anger.
"Well..." Tre said in a snotty tone. "That doesn't matter. Because I'm not allowed to be with her anymore thanks to SOMEONE!" He said, looking at Billie. Billie just sighed.
"Yeah, about that." He clapped a hand on Tre's shoulder. "I understand how you guys feel about each other. And I guess I over reacted when I found out about you two."
"Are you saying what I think you're saying?" Tre asked hopefully.
"Yeah. I am."
"So, we can still be together?" Billie nodded. Tre jumped up and pointed to the door. "Well, my compadres, what the fuck are we waiting for? I've got a woman back home, and frankly..." Unable to finish his last sentance, Tre lost his balance and toppled to the floor. He shot back up and pointed to the door once more. "Right. Let's go home." Mike and Billie laughed and helped Tre to the car.
Sara waited patiently on the couch with her mother, who cuddled with her and Jakob, stroking thier hair and kissing the top of their heads. Finally, the front door opened, and Tre flounced through it.
"Come to me, my love!" He screamed, holding out his arms. Sara smiled and jumped up. She broke into a run and jumped into Tre's arms, causing Tre to fall over.
"Well," Billie said, coming through the door. "He's almost completely sober." He looked down where Sara and Tre were on the floor. "Have a good relationship, dear." Sara looked up at Billie.
"You really mean it? We can be together?"
"That is right, love." Tre said. "We are united once again." Sara laughed and hugged him tightly.
"Uh, am I interrupting?" Everyone turned to the doorway, where a very timid Gerard stood.
"No. No interruption." Mike said, inviting him in. Sara and Tre sat up and glared at him. Gerard's eyes widened.
"You." He said, looking at Sara.
"Who'd you expect?" She snapped. He smiled and started laughing. He threw himself down and hugged her.
"I didn't think you'd come back! I-" He noticed Tre and Sara giving him dirty looks. He shrugged. "Ok, maybe I made a few boo-boos. But, you're back!" He tried to give her a convincing smile, but she saw right through him.
"You've got alot of explaining to do." She said. And to Gerard's surprise, she smiled at him. "But not without a welcome." She threw her arms around his neck and hugged him. He gladly hugged her back.
"Ok, well, we definatley had enough excitment tonight. But," He bent down and picked Sara up once more. "We're going to bed."
"We?" She asked him. "As in me and you?"
"Yeah. You're sleeping with me until I find it safe enough to leave you alone again." Sara sighed, laying her head on his shoulder.
"I'm going to be sleeping with you for the rest of my life." Billie laughed and carried her upstairs. He laid her on the bed and took off his jacket. "You know..." He said laying down next to her. "I got a letter in the mail from school saying you have a winter dance coming up..."
"So?"
"So..." He moved her closer. "Who're you going with?"
"Dad." She said, laughing. "You are so-"
"Loveable? Sexy? Beautiful?" Sara laughed.
"I was going to say nosy, but I think the better word is weird." Mike came in the room, looking tired.
"Knock, knock." He said. Sara smiled.
"Hi, Mikey." He bent over and kissed her forehead.
"Glad to have you back, kid." He slapped her butt and trudged into his bedroom. Adrienne carried Jakob to his room and then came in and collapsed next to Sara.
"It'll be nice to get a good night's sleep."
"Yeah." Billie said, pulling Sara in close to him. "We have our baby back." Sara smiled and kissed him.
"I love you, dad."
"I love you too, honey." They turned to say goodnight to Adie, but she was already fast asleep. Tre decided to come in and say goodnight. He stumbled in and smiled at Sara.
"Hi."
"Hey, you," Sara said, laughing at him. He leaned in and kissed her softly.
"Goodnight, darling," He said dramatically.
"Night, Tre." He stood up and followed Gerard into his room.
"Where's Tre?" She asked, after all of the crying had died down. Everyone sat in the kitchen, Billie holding her protectivley in his lap. Adie looked at Mike with a worried face. Mike turned to Sara and sighed.
