The New Daughter of the Family. (Sequel to An Angel's Voice.), chapter 18

Sara woke up the next morning feeling depressed and sad. Today was it. The day. Sure, nine hours ago she had been in the same room as Bono. She loved Bono. He was the greatest. But today, she didn't feel like talking or listening to anybody. Because of the accident two years ago. Two years ago today. When she had made a mistake and it caused Peter his life. God, she felt like shit. And what's worse, she has to go to school. She decided to shrug it off and get up. She showered, got dressed and walked slowly downstairs only to meet her dad in the kitchen.
"Hi, baby," he said happily, kissing her cheek.
"Hi," she said quietly.
"Ready for school?" She nodded. She grabbed her backpack and walked outside to the car. Billie got in on the other side and started the car. He drove her to school, Sara not saying anything.
"Dad?" she asked quietly, turning to him.
"Yes?" he asked, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Can I ask you something?" He looked at her, a worried look on his face.
"Yeah...is something wrong?" She looked at her feet. She couldn't believe he forgot. This is the one day she always dreaded. And he forgot.
"No, just forget it."
"Are you sure?" She nodded and got out of the car. She walked towards the school as Billie jumped out of the car. "Hey!" he shouted. She turned and watched as teenagers suddenly crowded around him, asking him for his autograph and taking pictures. She just shook her head and walked inside.

Billie drove his car back home a half hour later when he finally managed to get away from all of the teens. He sulked into the kitchen where Tre was sitting with a bowl of cereal. He just stared into the bowl, not eating, but just stirring his spoon through the mushed up cereal.
"Tre?" Billie asked, looking out the kitchen window.
"Hm?" he said absentmindedly.
"There's something wrong with Sara today," Tre looked up at him.
"Wait a sec. Don't you remember?" Billie turned to him quizically.
"Remember what?" Tre pushed the bowl away.
"Peter? What happened two years ago?" Billie slapped his forehead.
"Oh my god! I totally forgot! That's why she was so-" He froze and stared at Tre. "I gotta go get her." He ran for the door.
"Billie, wait!" Billie stopped and turned. "Don't," he said pleadingly.
"What?"
"Maybe today, you should just let her do her own thing. You know? Maybe let her walk home so she has some time to herself."
"But, I can't do that, Tre. What if-?"
"Billie, she would really appreciate it," Billie sighed and nodded.
"I guess you're right."

Sara walked out of school. It was finally over. She decided she didn't want to ride home, she's rather walk. She'd deal with the punishments later. She walked through the neighbor's yard when it started raining. Great, she thought as tears sprung from her eyes. She had finally reached her own yard. She stopped in the middle of the lawn as Billie watched her from the window. She dropped her backpack to the wet ground and spread out her arms. She looked up to the grey sky, sadness in her eyes.
"This is punishment, isn't it, Peter!?" she cried into the sky, tears pouring from her wet face. "I'm sorry, ok?! I'M SORRY!" She collapsed to the ground and cried. "I'm sorry," she sobbed. Billie ran outside and grabbed her. She flung away. "NO!" she cried. "It's all my fault!" she screamed. Billie threw himself against her and held her as she cried. He picked her up and carried her inside.
