The New Daughter of the Family. (Sequel to An Angel's Voice.), chapter 22
Sara shuffled out of school and into the car awaiting her at the curb.
"Hey, nerd," Freezy said happily.
"Hi," She muffled quietly. Freezy gave her an odd look and noticed kids outside, holding thier sides, laughing and pointing in her direction.
"Why're they laughing?" He asked, looking at her. She looked back and gave him a fake smile.
"Oh, they're laughing...at a joke I made. Yeah, it was pretty funny," She said, adding a fake laugh.
"Oh, okay. Well, your dad's at home, waiting for you," He said, starting the car and driving her home.
She walked through the door and tossed off her shoes. She threw her backpack on the couch and tried to make her way upstairs.
"Nice to see you, too," She heard her dad call from the living room. She sighed and joined him. She plopped down next to him.
"Hi, dad," She said quietly.
"Hey, how was school?"
"Fine."
"Mhmm. Well, the dance is tonight."
"Yep."
"Can't wait to see your dress," He said, smiling.
"Not going," She said glumly.
"How come?"
"Because...." She sighed. "No one asked me." Billie continued smiling.
"Well, that's a relief." Sara looked at him, confusion and sadness in her eyes. "You know, I got really bored sitting in the hospital," He said, neatly folding his hands on his stomach. "And, I thought, well, just for the heck of it...."
"Dad, you didn't find me a blind date, did you?" Billie laughed.
"No. I just...called a couple people who I happen to know...and..." He motioned to Freezy. "Freezy here picked someone up at the airport, and I just thought you'd like to...catch up." Freezy entered the living room with someone Sara knew very well...
"Oh my god..." She whispered. She stood up and screamed. "LONDEN?!" She screeched, running to her best friend. They hugged each other tightly and laughed.
"Hey, girl! Your dad called and asked if I wanted to visit for a couple days, and I couldn't refuse!"
"And..." Billie said, hoisting himself up painfully. "I called some of my close friends, who gave me a couple of these, and since you don't have anything to do tonight, I thought what the hell. Here." He handed her two small pieces of paper. She graciously took them and surveyed them. Her eyes widened.
"Front row tickets to see...Train!?" She said, looking at Londen. Londen's eyes went wide as she snatched them and looked at them.
"HOLY FIUCKING SHIT!!" They shouted together. "WE'RE GOING TO SEE TRAIN!!"
They screamed, hugging each other. She ran to Billie and hugged him.
"Thank you so much, dad!" He painfully hugged her back, smiling.
"But, that's not all..."
"More?!" He reached into his pockets and pulled out two laminated pieces of paper. Sara and Londen gasped. "You DIDN'T!" Sara shouted. He handed them to her. "BACKSTAGE PASSES!?!" She and Londen grabbed hands and jumped up and down, screaming wildly. Sara let go and jumped on her dad. "I can't believe you did this for me! I love you, dad!" She said, kissing his cheek.
"Well, I felt bad that you didn't have a date for the dance, so..."
"Thank you soooo much, dad!" She said, hugging him tighter.
"No problem. Go get ready," He said, setting her down and patting her butt. She and Londen grabbed hands and ran upstairs.
