The New Daughter of the Family. (Sequel to An Angel's Voice.), chapter 23
"Ok, we're ready!" Londen announced happily, as she and Sara ran downstairs to get their shoes on.
"Can you believe we're going to meet Train?" Sara said, anxiously tying her converse.
"I know, it's gonna be so GREAT!!" Londen shouted. They both finished with their shoes and ran into the kitchen.
"Ok, we're leaving now, bye!" Sara shouted, grabbing her car keys.
"Wait," Billie said. She froze and turned around. Billie held out his arms. "Hug." Sara smiled and carefully gave him a hug. She kissed his cheek and ran out the door. Billie watched her car go down the driveway and out of sight.
"I'm proud of you." A voice said from the doorway. Billie turned to find his wife.
"Why?"
"Letting her go to the concert with no supervision, inviting her best friend." Billie smiled.
"Well, she deserves it. I hope she'll be ok, though." Adie smiled and kissed the top of his head.
"She'll be fine."
"Londen, their starting, let's GO!" Sara shouted, trying to pry her friend from the mirror.
"Just wait a sec." She spread some eyeliner and clicked the cap on. Then, Sara grabbed her hand and they ran into the concert hall and shoved their way to the front row, waiting impatiently for the show to start.
"ISN'T THIS GREAT!?" Sara shouted to Londen over the screaming crowd. But Londen had her eyes glued to the stage, where the band ran out, and everyone cheered. Sara and Londen looked at each other and laughed. They screamed and cheered as the singer blared into the Mic.
"Hellllooo, California!" he shouted. Everyone screamed louder. "How we doin' tonight?" Again, everyone screamed. "That's good. Well, my name is Pat, and this is Train." He said, motioning to the guys standing behind him. "We're going to start off with a song I like to call "She's On Fire."
"Billie, where'd you go?" Mike asked himself, looking around the house. "Not in the kitchen." He walked into the living room. "There you are." Billie looked up from the tv.
"Hey."
"Where's everyone?" Billie sighed.
"Sara's at a concert, Adie's at the grocery store with the boys, and who knows what Tre's doing with Jase and Ronny."
"Oh," Mike said, taking a seat next to Billie. "Bored?"
"Oh, yeah," Billie said, flipping though channels.
"So, Sara went to a concert?"
"Yep?"
"Who's?"
"Train."
"Oh. She really likes them, doesn't she?"
"They're her favorite." Mike looked at Billie.
"I thought we were her favorite." Billie smirked.
"Nope."
"But-"
"It's a long story, dude." Mike sighed.
"Well, we've got all night, and you're bored as hell." Billie laughed.
"I guess you're right." He sat up painfully. "Well, Train hasn't had as much success as we have, they're kind of-"
"Old people type of music," Mike said, laughing.
"No...they just don't rock as hard as we do." Mike nodded. "But, they've been with Sara all her life. She didn't even hear of us until she was about thirteen."
"Really?"
"Yeah. Train was there since the beginning."
"And Sara told you all of this?" Billie smiled.
"Yep. She told me that she's been listening since she was five." Mike sat back.
"Wow."
"Yeah, I know. And they've been there through the good and bad." They sat there for what seemed like hours, no one saying a word.
"That's some story," Mike said. Billie nodded. "So, does she have a favorite song?" Billie again nodded.
"It's called "Drops of Jupiter." She plays it all the time."
"I know, I hear it in her room a lot." Billie stared at the ground.
"Yeah, but no one really knows how much that song really means to her." He smiled. "She said her and Peter used to sing it with each other all the time. Peter couldn't sing very well," Mike smiled. "But she still loved to sing it with him."
"Holy cow," Mike said, sighing. Billie tilted his head at Mike.
"I know, man. I know."
"Thank you, you're too kind." The singer said into the mic. "Alright." He said, surveying the audience. "I'm going to sing a special song. And...." his eyes stopped at Sara. "I need someone to sing it with me." He motioned his head, telling Sara to join him. Sara looked at Londen, who laughed.
"He's talking to you! Get up there!" Londen said, shoving her towards the stage. Sara looked back at Londen and turned and ran on stage.
"Hello, there." He said to Sara.
"Hi."
"What's your name?" He asked, smiling towards the screaming audience.
"Sara."
"Very nice." He said, smiling at her. He stood up and looked at the audience. "Well, how about a little "Drops of Jupiter"? What do you say?" He asked, looking at Sara. She nodded. Londen pulled out her cell phone and started recording.
Billie's cell beeped. He looked at Mike, who had a nervous look on his face. Billie flipped it open and smiled.
"What?" Mike asked.
"Look." Mike leaned over to observe the cell phone. They watched as she sang along to the song.
"She sounds great." Mike said. Billie nodded. He watched her, tears trickling down her face.
-After the show-
"You were great back there." Londen said, nudging Sara in the side as they made thier way backstage.
"Thanks." She said quietly.
"You ok?" Sara looked up and gave her a fake smile.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
