The New Daughter of the Family. (Sequel to An Angel's Voice.), chapter 25
Jakob skipped happily into Sara's room and hopped up onto the bed.
"Mmph. Jakob get off," she mumbled.
"Come on! Get up! It's Saturday," he shouted, shaking her gently. She sat up groggily and looked at her alarm clock. She moaned.
"It's 4:30 in the morning. Go wake dad up or something." She shoved her head under the pillow.
"Already tried," he said. "But he won't get up."
"What about Mike?" she muffled from under the pillow.
"He's already awake."
"Then leave me alone." Jakob whined.
"But Spongebob's on. And Mike won't watch it with me." Sara let out a frustrated sigh.
"Then what about Tre?"
"But-" Jakob smirked. "Ok. Night." And he ran out of sight.
-Jakob's P.O.V-
If I can't get her up, maybe Tre can. I ran into his room and stood by his bed.
"Tre?" I whispered. He didn't move. I poked him in the side. "Tre!"
"What?" He asked, sounding mad. I don't get it. It's already 4:30 and no one wants to get up.
"I need your help."
"Go back to sleep, Jakob."
"But I need your help. Badly." Tre sat up and looked at me.
"With what?" He asked grumpily.
"I need to get Sara up so she can watch Spongebob with me." Tre sighed.
"Jake, she had a long night, let her sleep," he said, laying his head on the pillow.
"But-"
"Go to sleep, Jakob." I sighed.
"Fine. Meanie." I ran downstairs to watch Spongebob all by myself.
-End of POV-
Billie walked downstairs to find Jakob sitting on the couch watching Spongebob. It was now 8 in the morning.
"Hey, Jake." Jakob looked at me and smiled.
"Hi, dad. Wanna watch with me? I've been watching for a while." Billie shrugged.
"Sure."
-Billie's POV-
Jakob and I sat and watched three full episodes of Spongebob. We watched as Sara came slowly down the steps.
"Hey there," I said, watching her reach into the cupboard and pull out cappuccino mix.
"Hi," she said tiredly. She poured a hot cup of water, added the powder and stirred it with a spoon.
"Wanna watch Spongebob?" Jakob asked. Sara nodded and sat on the couch next to me. We sat there and watched Spongebob for a while.
"Hey." I said, turning to Sara. "Let's spend the day together. Just me and you." She shrugged.
"Sure."
"Try to contain you enthusiast," I mumbled, rolling my eyes. I'll just let the caffeine set in. "Well, what do you want to do today, then?" Again, she shrugged.
"You pick," she said, taking a sip of her drink. Me? Why should I decide? Well, I guess I am the one who brought it up. Let's see...What would an eighteen year old want to do with her dad? Zoo? No, she's too old for that. Movie? Yeah, I guess we could do that. And go out for ice cream. Yeah, let's do that.
"Wanna see a movie?" I asked her. She nodded. "What one?" She shrugged. Gah, I hate it when she does that.
"Don't care." I tapped my chin.
"How about....An action movie?"
"I kinda feel like a comedy." Wow, I thought, she does know how to speak in full sentences.
"Ok...Well, there's "Pirates of the Caribbean II." Or we could just ditch the whole movie idea and-"
"Let's go see that one," she said. I nodded.
"Ok."
-End of POV-
"Ready?" Billie asked Sara, who ran down the stairs.
"Yep." She slid on her shoes and followed Billie out the door.
"Ok. Let's rock n' roll," Billie said, turning on the car and driving out he driveway. Sara leaned over and turned on the radio.
"Hey, there, California. It's Bud here with all of your favorite tunes. 80's, 90's, anything you want to hear, we play." The radio man shouted through the speakers. "And now, here's one of my favorites, "Tell Me Baby," by the Red Hot Chili Peppers."
"Ooo, I love this song!" Sara squealed, turning up the volume. Billie smiled, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.
"Tell me baby, what's your story?
Where you come from and where you wanna go this time on?
You're so lovely are you lonely?" Sara sang with it. Billie felt his cell phone ring on his thigh. He shut off the radio and pulled it out of his pocket.
"Hey!" Sara said, sounding taken aback.
"Let me answer this," Billie huffed. "H'lo?"
"Hey, BJ. It's Jay." Billie smiled.
"Hey, Jay. What's up?"
"Not much. Listen, today is your lunch date with Mr. S."
"Oh, shit. I forgot. Yeah, I'll be right there. I just have to drive my daughter home and-" Billie looked over at her. She looked at Billie with a sad expression. Billie sighed. He hasn't had much time to spend father- daughter bonding time with her. "Uh, Jay."
"Yeah?"
"I'm gonna have to cancel that today. I've got other important stuff to do." He said, giving Sara a little wink. She smiled at him.
"You sure?"
"Yeah."
"Ok, see ya, Beej."
"Bye." He hung up and put the phone back into his pocket.
"You didn't have to do that," she said. Billie shrugged.
"I know." Sara smiled.
"But I'm glad you did." Billie laughed and ruffled her hair. He pulled into the movie theater and turned off the car. They got out and walked in, Billie's arm draped around her shoulder. Billie bought the tickets and walked towards the concession stands.
"Ok, what do you want?" He asked Sara. But she wasn't paying attention. She was looking towards a group of kids, who were pointing and whispering in there direction. "Friends from school?" Billie asked sarcastically.
"Yeah," she said quietly, crossing her arms nervously. Billie turned back to the stand, and one of the kids from the group quietly walked over to them. He stood behind Sara and flicked the back of her head. "Fuck!" she shouted, turning around, hand on her head. The boy glowered at her.
"Don't swear at me, I didn't do nothing." Sara gave him a glare and turned around. The boy silently sniggered, looking at his friends, who were laughing along with him. He raised his hands up and grabbed her butt, causing her to jump.
"WHAT THE FUCK!?" she shouted, whirling around in surprise. Billie turned.
"I didn't do nothin'!" The boy exclaimed. The manager came out from behind the counter.
"Do we have a problem here?" he asked. The boy nodded.
"This girl is sexually harassing me," he said, glaring at her. "She grabbed me in a inappropriate place." The manager looked at Sara.
"Is this true?" he asked strictly.
"No!" she shouted. The manager winced.
"Don't raise your voice at me, bitch. I'm-"
"Hey!" Billie said warningly. "Don't talk to her like that." The manager looked at Billie.
"You can't tell me what to do. I'm the manager here, and I said-"
"You still don't have the right to talk to a costumer like that." Billie snapped. The manager hesitated.
"Sir, I don't appreciate you raising your voice at me-"
"You want to hear me raise my voice!?" Billie shouted. "DO YA!?"
"I'm going to have to ask you to leave-"
"You don't have to ask me twice!" Billie said. "C'mon, Sara," he said grabbing her hand. He turned to the boy, who was laughing and watching the show. Billie wound up and punched him square in the nose.
"You should know better not to touch ladies like that," he said, as everyone crowded around the boy. He led Sara through the lobby and out the door.
"Mmph. Jakob get off," she mumbled.
