The New Daughter of the Family. (Sequel to An Angel's Voice.), chapter 27
"Look who's finally up." Billie chuckled, watching Sara come down the stairs.
"Shut up," She snapped. "Oh, and thanks for the wake up call, sergeant," She added sarcastically.
"No prob. Now, get your ass in the car, we gotta go." She sighed and trudged outside. Billie dropped her off at the front entrance of the school.
"Bye, dad," She said, opening the door.
"See ya later, hun. Have a good day." She nodded slightly and watched him drive away.
Billie dropped his car keys and plopped down on the couch.
"Ah, home, sweet home," He said, satisfied. Jakob ran downstairs.
"DAD! COME ON! I'M LATE!" Billie jumped.
"Jesus! What are you still doing here?!" Jakob tugged at his arm.
"Who cares!? I gotta go!" He ran outside while Billie grabbed his car keys. He drove Jakob to the elementary school.
"Bye, Jake."
"Bye. Oh, dad! Lunch money, please!" He shouted, before running into the building.
"Augh fine." He huffed. And he drove home.
He threw his keys down on the counter for the last time. He shuffled over to the telephone and dialed the school telephone number.
"Hello, this is Berkeley Public Schools, how may I help you?"
"Yeah, hi. I need to put lunch money in my children's accounts," He said, rubbing his eyes stressfully.
"Okie dokie. Last name, please?"
"Armstrong."
"Okay Armstrong...Armstrong...ah, here we are. Jakob and Joseph?"
"Yes. And Sara." There was a brief silence.
"Uh, I have a Joseph and Jakob. But I'm afraid there's no Sara."
Billie hesitated. "Huh?"
"Nope. My records show she dropped out a month and a half ago." Billie froze. "And the slip has your signature on it." He didn't say anything. "Mr. Armstrong?"
Billie snapped out of it. "Yeah. I'm here. Just...uh... put fifty in the boys' accounts, will you?"
"Yes, sir. Um...is everything alright?"
"Yeah," He said. "Everything's fine." He slammed the phone down.
"Whoa, there." Mike said, coming downstairs. "Something wrong?" Billie just stared at the table top, clutching the edge.
"She dropped out," He said quietly.
"Huh?" Billie stood up and glared at Mike.
"She forged my signature....and dropped-out-of-school," He said, anger bubbling inside him.
"Who? Sara?" Billie's eyes burned into Mike's.
"No, your mom's!" He shouted. "YES, SARA. YOU DIPSHIT!"
"Well, I'm sorry. You didn't have to yell!" Mike shouted back. "I'm just trying to figure out what we can do about it!"
"Well, maybe it's none of your damn buisness what we do about it!" Billie screamed.
"SORRY IF I'M JUST TRYING TO HELP!!" Mike shouted, throwing his coffee cup at Billie. It barley missed his head and hit the floor, shattering into pieces. Billie glared angrily at Mike.
"FYI, she is MY daughter and I will decide what is best for her!"
"Oh, if I had a fucking dime for every time I've heard that one," Mike said sarcastically. He grabbed his coat and threw it on.
"Where do you think you're going?!" Billie screeched.
"NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUISNESS!"
"FINE!"
"FINE!" Mike opened the door and slammed it shut.
