The New Daughter of the Family. (Sequel to An Angel's Voice.), chapter 7

Sara and Billie sat in the car, avoiding eye contact with one another.
"You didn't need to come save me, dad. I was just fine." Billie snorted.
"Oh, yeah. You were fine."
"Don't appreciate the sarcasm, dad."
"Well, where was Mike when all this happened?"
"Dunno." He looked at her with wide eyes.
"You don't KNOW!?"
"Nope, have no idea."
"Oh my fucking god." He murmured. "He is in so much trouble." He looked back at Sara. "But you... Oh, you are really in deep shit."
"Just shut up and drive." Sara snapped.
"Don't use that tone with me."
"I- But you- Augh, you can be so impossible sometimes."
"Yeah, well, living with you isn't such a picnic, either." Sara stared back out the window. She really didn't want to be in the car with her dad. She had to escape. So she thought of a plan. Grinning to herself, she looked out the front windshield.
"DAD! WATCH OUT FOR THE DEER!" She said, pointing out the window. Billie screamed and came to a screeching halt. Sara just laughed. "There is no deer, dumbfuck." She opened the door and got out of the car. Billie sat in his seat, unable to move. He saw his daughter walking down the road.
"WHAT THE HELL?!" He screamed. Sara stood at the edge of the road and stuck her thumb out. Billie chucked the car door open and raced down the road where a car had stopped in front of his daughter.
"Need a ride, sweetheart?" The man asked, eyeing Sara up and down.
"Yeah, I do." She said, opening the door. Billie ran up to her and grabbed her by the waist.
"GET THE HELL AWAY FROM HER BEFORE I CALL THE COPS!" Billie screeched. The man in the car gave Sara a horrified glance and slammed the door shut. He raced down the road and out of sight. Billie threw his daughter to the ground. "WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?! WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO, GIVE ME A HEART ATTACK!?" Sara got up and brushed of her ass.
"No. I'm simply trying to get the fuck away from you." She started walking down the road. Billie grabbed her and carried her to the car. He threw her in the car and gave her a death glare.
"Stay put." He said quietly. "If you even think of running again, I swear to god I will hunt you down and make your life a living hell." Sara glared back at him.
"Fine. But it's not like you haven't made my life hell already." Billie's glare turned to sadness. That hurt, he thought.
"Just stay here." He said sadly. He pulled out his cell phone and dialed Tre's number. He turned his back to his daughter as tears started rolling down his cheeks.
"Hello?" An annoyed and frightened Tre answered.
"Tre?"
"Oh, thank GOD it's you, Billie. Where are you?"
"Uh, I'm not quite sure." He said, his voice cracking.
"Are you ok? Is Sara ok? Did something happen?"
"No, Tre. Everything's fine." There was a silence. "Tre? Can I ask you a question?" He asked, wiping the tears from his cheeks.
"Sure, shoot."
"Am I- Am I a bad father?" He couldn't stop the tears.
"What? You? No! You're a great father! Why?"
"It's just that..... Oh, never mind. I'll see you later."
"Ok, bye." Billie hung up. He wiped the tears and turned to his daughter. She glared back at him. He couldn't hold it any longer. Tears poured out of his eyes. Sara looked confused and ashamed at the same time.
"Dad, I-" Billie ignored her and got in the car. "Dad?" Sara looked at her father, who was crying silently. "Dad, come on. I'm sorry-"
"No, you're not." He stated.
"Dad, please, I-"
"Dad? I don't feel like your dad at the moment. Just, do me a favor and shut the hell up. Just- Just- Be quiet."
"But, I-"
"SHUT UP!" Sara just looked out the window. Billie let out a small sob and turned into Grandma O' Connor's long driveway. Ignoring Sara, Billie got out of the car and into the house. Sara sat in the car.
"What have I done?" She said quietly, her face wet with tears. She noticed a car coming up the driveway and stop right next to Billie's car. It was Mike and Tre. Mike ran out of the car and ran towards the house. He looked into Billie's car and noticed Sara sitting there. He let out a huge sigh of relief.
"There you are! Are you ok?" He asked, opening the driver's side and sitting next to her. She nodded. "Well, you don't look ok. What's wrong?"
"I- I didn't mean to, Mike. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make him cry." Sara sobbed.
"What? Make who cry?" Mike asked, watching Tre open the back door of Billie's car and hopping in.
"Hey, guys!" He said cheerfully. "What's wrong?" He asked, noticing Sara crying. Mike ignored him and turned his attention back to Sara.
"Who? Who's crying?"
"Dad." She said quietly.
"Billie? Why? What-" He looked at Tre, who shrugged. "Maybe I should go talk to him." Mike got out of the car and into the house.

"BJ?" Mike knocked on the bedroom door where he could hear his best friend crying on the other side.
"What?" Billie snapped.
"Can I come in?" He asked softly.
"No." Mike went in anyway.
"Billie, what's wrong?"
"I don't want to talk about it! Now go away." Mike sat on the bed beside Billie.
"Why did she make you cry?" Mike asked quietly. Billie looked at him with his big green eyes.
"She scared me to death, Mike. Seeing her dancing with some guy.... Hitch hiking.... And she told me that- that I made her life a living hell. And I thought-" He let out a small cry. "I thought she hates me so much. And I felt like the worst father. I didn't mean to make her so mad." He wiped the tears and sighed. "Watching her dancing with that guy, at the club, it made me think bad thoughts. What if she got raped? Or got drunk and got pregnant? And I guess I just lost it." Mike looked at Billie.
"Dude, you're probably one of the most honest, caring, loving father I know. And this is probably my entire fault anyways. I should have been watching her, I was drinking with some chick, and-"
"Yeah, but I only made it worse." Billie said quietly. He got up from the bed and walked out the door, Mike following.
He put on his shoes and went outside to his car. He found Sara sitting on Tre's lap, crying into his chest. Tre stroking her hair and kissing the top of her head. Billie went to the car and opened the door. Sara looked up, startled by her father's entrance. Billie picked her off Tre's lap and held her tightly. Sara threw her arms around his neck and cried into Billie's neck.
"I'm sorry, daddy." She said in a muffled voice. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to make you so mad." Billie dug his nose into her neck, tears flowing from his eyes.
"I know I'm sorry too, baby. I'm sorry too. I love you."
"I love you, too, daddy. So much."
Tre's lower lip quivered.
"I LOVE YOU BOTH!" He screamed, joining the group hug. Sara and Billie laughed, looking at Mike.
"Ok, I guess I do too." Sara smiled and pulled him in to the hug. Tre and Mike separated, while Sara and Billie wiped the tears from their faces.
"Well." Billie said, sniffling. "Enough drama for one night, wouldn't you say?" He asked, looking down at his daughter.
"Yeah. I'm beat." She said, yawning. "Lets go to bed."
"Amen to that." Mike said. Billie carried her into the house, Tre and Mike following. Mike and Tre went into their separate bedrooms. Billie carried Sara into his and Adie's room and tossed her onto the bed. He flopped down and dug his face into the pillow.
"I love this bed." He said in a muffled voice. Sara laughed. Billie looked at her and pulled her close to him, wrapping his arm around her waist. He dug his nose into the back of her neck. "Good night." He said, closing his eyes.
"Good night, dad."
"I love you."
"I love you more."
"Nuh uh."
"Yuh huh."
"Nuh uh."
"Yuh huh."
"Don't make me poke you again." Billie said, laughing.
"Ok, fine. You love me more." He smiled.
"That's right. Now go to sleep." In a matter of minutes, they were both in a deep sleep.
