Cigarettes And Valentines, chapter 1
I look down at my arms, knowing it aint good, not while crying, 'cause the tears burn in my scars..
[1993]
"Oh, hi Billie Joe," Melody said with a weak smile when she opened the door. "Hi Melody," I replied. "Ain't you glad to see me?" Melody was my girlfriend. I knew she wasn't glad to see me. She was just one of my practise goals. Practise goals for the Lindale business. Gosh, I wanted to join that business.
The Lindale business was, as they call it, the largest gangster business in the entire world. They did a lot of bad things, I knew. But they did it 'cause of revenge, something I wanted over many. I knew that to join the business, you had to write an application on at least 20 pages, and send it to Bailey Lindale, their leader, who lived in Washington. You had to write all of the bad shit you'd done in your life, what you'd been through, and a lot of personal stuff. I'd got this idea from a guy named Johnny Bellamy, uncle Johnny as everyone called him. He'd been in the business for years, and told me to join. I wouldn't just get revenge; I'd have money to get my revenge, something that suited me very well. Mike gave me a warning about joining, he'd heard a lot of scary stories from people that quit. But I'd made up my mind.
"Make me some dinner, you ugly twat," I told Melody. "Well, go do it!" I said after she'd been staring at me for five minutes or so. I had to get rid of her, I wanted to join as soon as possible. I started to figure out a plan, but of course Melody interrupter me. "Dinner's ready," she said with a low, shaky voice. "Melody, my dear... Can't you see I'm thinking for fuck's sake?!" "Sorry," she whispered as she bit her lip. "But you asked me t..." "I didn't ask you about anything, I told you to. Now, get out of my sight!" "But Billie.." "Do as you're told!" I shouted. She looked at me for a while, then took her coat and ran out of the house. "Finally some peace at last..." I thought to myself as I started eating.
We'd been together for months, me and Melody. In the beginning I treated her very nice, and made her trust me. I found her just after the break up I had with Adrienne. Stupid bitch.
The time was about 11:30PM and no sight of Melody. "Christ, I'm getting tired waiting," I thought to myself. I think I fell asleep there and then, at the kitchen table. I woke up when the phone rang. I rubbed my eyes. Who the fuck dare to call me in the middle of the fucking night? I looked at the number. Unknown. "Hello?" I said, knowing I sounded like Mike when he's drunk. I didn't like it. "Mr. Armstrong?" "That would be me," I replied. "This is about Ms. Melody Wainright, she's.." he paused, and I heard him take a deep breath. "Well, she's.. " "Get to the goddamn point, I wanna sleep!" I said, trying to sound big and scary. "I'm afraid Ms. Wainright isn't among us anymore." "W... What do you mean?" I said, confused. "She's dead."
