Adrienne's Pain - Sequel to Jamie's New Love, chapter 2
I just looked at him. I wanted to die.
"If you won't answer, I'm taking you to the hospital," he said, coming toward me.
"Pete," I said.
He picked me up bridal style and carried me up the stairs.
"Jamie, we'll be back," he said on his way out. Mom didn't asked any questions either. Very unlikely of her.
We arrived at the hospital.
"Miss, can we get this girl into a room?" he asked.
"May I ask why?" she asked.
"She is cutting and she won't eat," Pete replied.
"Okay, please fill these forms, then we can submit her," the lady said, handing Pete the forms.
"Miss, this is my daughter and she is in danger of dying and you can't submit her until some shitty ass forms are filled out?" Pete asked angrily. I had never heard Pete cuss before. It kind of surprised me.
"Sir, just fill out the forms. They will only take about ten minutes," the lady said.
Pete didn't argue this time. He took both me and himself to the waiting area and he filled the forms out. I just watched as I sucked on one of my latest cuts.
"Adrienne, don't do that. It could break it open," he said without looking up from the form.
I stopped but didn't say anything. I watched him and he was done in about seven or eight minutes.
"Thank you. A doctor will be with you shortly," she said, taking the forms.
"Hold up. You said if I finish the forms, she is submitted. Now that was a fucking lie if she doesn't get a room. I don't want her to die. And doctors can't do anything on time. What makes you think they will be out on time this time?" Pete said, becoming enraged.
"Sir, just sit down. If you don't like it, leave and go to the hospital all the way across town," the lady said happily.
"I think I'll just go up to Urgent Care on the fifth floor," Pete said, leaving her with a smirk on her face.
She watched us until we got to the elevator. Before it closed, both me and Pete flipped her off.
Pete picked me up again and headed for Urgent Care.
"Sir, if you are here for the girl, please take her to room number four. Thank you," she said, pointing to a room.
"Okay. Thank you," Pete responded, heading for the room.
We got to the room and Pete laid me on the bed. I went to sleep in about five minutes.
Pete's POV
Adrienne fell asleep so I let her sleep.
"Hello. Can you please fill these forms as I take her blood pressure?" the nurse asked.
"She might not have good blood pressure," I said hesitantly.
"Why is that?" she asked.
"The reason I brought her here. She cuts her wrists and she hasn't eaten in four days that we can tell," I explained.
"Well, that will make a difference," she said with a smile, probably trying to cheer me up.
"Well, I'm not exactly happy about this. I just got married. She is my step daughter. I call her my daughter because she calls me her father," I explained.
"Oh, well, I'm happy about the marriage. I'm sorry she is doing this to you and your wife," she comforted.
"Thanks," I said, finishing the forms.
"I'll take that," the nurse said, grabbing the clipboard.
She took her blood pressure.
"Does she need to be awake for the pulse test?" I asked.
"No," she answered simply.
I sat back down without a word.
"Now, I am going to get her an IV. Make sure her heart rate doesn't increase. She is hooked up to a machine that watches it. If starts to beat any faster, please come get me or another nurse." she said before leaving the room.
Beep....beep....beep....beep
It was normal when she came back so that was a relief to me. She stuck the IV in her arm and taped it down in place.
"Sir, how long has she been cutting?" the nurse asked.
"I asked her that. My wife had won tickets to a concert and that was about five or six months ago. I asked her how long and she said since her mother won the tickets so at least five to six months," I explained, trying to think.
"Do you know why?" she continued.
"She said it's the only was to ease the pain," I answered.
"Oh and I gave her the option to come to the hospital or die. She asked if I ever thought that she wanted to die. I brought her here because she never answered the question," I continued.
"I don't know if this will work then. Have you heard of patients 'giving up'?" she explained.
"I'm afraid she won't even try to fight the sickness and she will just let it kill her," she continued.
"And we can't do anything about it?" I asked.
"Not yet. We haven't found a way," she said sadly. She left the room.
"Adrienne. I beg you, please don't leave. I love you. There will be pain in life. You just have to deal with it. I dealt with it for eight year. I let your mom go. She stayed in Oakland and I left for Chicago with the guys. If your dad would have stayed, I would have to live with the biggest mistake of my life, letting her get away. Well, I'm not letting you get away. I love you. You are my daughter. Please, don't put me through this?" I talked quietly to her.
"If you won't answer, I'm taking you to the hospital," he said, coming toward me.
