Down With The Moral Majority Because I Want To be The MINORITY, chapter 1

It was a very normal day for Hayley. It was Monday. She was very tired because her mum worked from 3am to 7am so Hayley snuck onto the computer very early in the morning when her mum went to work.

"Rise and shine!" Her mum yelled banging on her door.

Hayley groaned and got up.

She just wore her stupid school uniform. And her chucks, which she got yelled at every day for wearing. Idiots. Shelly-The class popular chick and pet wore PINK SHOES and the uniform code was "Black lace up shoes"

Hayley got out her Science books from her locker.

Tiffany-Her friend popped next to her.

"Hi. I'm still obsessed with that Green Day CD you burnt for me!" Tiffany said.

"Haha What's your favorite song on it?" Hayley asked.

"Fuck off and die! That's so funny!" Tiffany said laughing.

"Yeah. We've got Science now. That means Miss Foo! Oh god..." Hayley said trailing off.

You see Hayley was the "Class rebel" And loved to give the teachers a hard time. Her classmates didn't see it as it is. They saw it as if Hayley was trying to fit in and become popular. Pfft if she were she would have stopped being a rebel ages ago.

"We can be late it's Miss Foo's class!" Tiffany yelled.

Hayley and Tiffany always skipped half of her class.

"Not me. Remember I'm on that stupid bad kids card. If I'm late I can get suspended!" Hayley said.

"Suit yourself" Tiffany said shrugging going off to skip with Hayley's "Old friends"

Now they weren't Hayley's enemies or anything but they've kind of "disowned" her. Hayley isn't a stupid girl and she doesn't call how they treat her "friendship" so they're just...her classmates.

Hayley walked into class and sat down. Then in came Miss popular. Megan. She had long slightly curled auburn here. Slim. Perfect teeth and tanned skin. She was very pretty. But very stupid. Actually the way she's going she's going to end up in a supermarket...

Hayley isn't doing very well in school either. But she's doing better than Megan. She's at least scraping through. She hasn't seen any grade higher than a D since her old school...But she doesn't mention it anymore.

So Hayley was just day dreaming at the front of the class. Yes the front. All the cool kids sat at the back all the guys sat at the front and the girls in the middle. No she wasn't a guy. Miss Foo always made her sit at the front. Why? Because she doesn't like Hayley.

Then in came a co-coordinator. Which is like a principal for the year 8's.

Then came in a new student. Hayley nearly fainted right there and then

"MOM! My collar's fine!" Joey yelled at his mother, Adrienne who was fidgeting with Joey's school t-shirt collar.

"You want to look good on your first day!" Adrienne said to her son who was scowling at her.

"Why do we have to wear a uniform?" Joey whined.

"Because all Australian schools wear them. Jakob has to wear one and he isn't complaining!" Adrienne said briskly to her son.

"I miss California." Joey said angrily and did a sulky walk into his mum's car.

"So do I hunny. But daddy thought it was best for a change. So did I. plus even you complained about your old school!" Adrienne said.

Joey sighed. He knew he was beat.

"Well. I suppose if you me or Jakob walk down the street we wont be recognized...But dad still will" Joey said trying to see the bright side of this.

"Yeah! That's a good point!" Adrienne said stopping the car in front of a medium sized school.

Joey gulped.

It didn't have the most "friendly" atmosphere. Actually it looked like a poor kid/scumbag school straight away.

"Let's go!" Adrienne said heading towards the office.

Both Joey and Adrienne were surprised they didn't even get ONE second look.

"That's a first" Adrienne joked to her son.

He just gave a weak smile back. He was too nervous.

"Welcome Mrs. Armstrong. This must be Joey?" The principal said to Adrienne and Joey.

"Yeah" Joey said nervously

"Well. I'm very happy someone of your importance has chosen to school here. I'll get a co-coordinator to introduce you to the class-" The principal said but was cut off.

"Oh. He doesn't want his class to know the truth about his father. He'd rather be seen as a normal student" Adrienne smiled.

"Oh in that case I'll get Mr. Bevy to take you down just to show you where it is" The principal said and a big man that looked scary appeared.

"See ya mom!" Joey said and kissed his mum on the cheek.

"Bye. I've got to take Jakob to his new school." Adrienne said dashing out.

No conversation was passed with Joey and Mr. Bevy.

Then they entered a classroom.

"Okay kids today we have a new student" The female teacher said and the class strained to look at him. Joey went red.

"This is Joseph Armstrong. Make him feel welcome!" The teacher said.

And once again no one even bothered to have a second look. One girl even only looked for a few seconds then went back down to whatever she was doing.

He sat next to another boy. The boy just looked at him weird. "Um hi I'm Joey?" Joey said to him.

On Joey's right was a girl who had all over her binder's "GREEN DAY RULES!" And everything to do with Green Day. If she was such a fan why didn't she pay interest in Joey? He then noticed she was graffiting Green Day lyrics

Then a girl randomly yelled out "Oi new kid? Do you feel honoured you have the same last name as one of the hottest guys on the earth?"

The girl with Green Day lyrics on her folder scoffed.

"Umm. Who you talking about? A lot of people have the last name Armstrong" Joey replied.

"Billie Joe Armstrong. DUH!" She yelled.

"Oh very honored" Joey said.

He hadn't been given any work yet. He was dead bored so he decided to talk to the "Green Day fan"

"Hi." Joey said.

"Hey. Joey" The girl said.

"So...You like Green Day?" Joey asked her.

"You don't think I know who you are do you?" The girl asked.

"Well. I figured you knew I was the new kid..." Joey said trailing off.

"Look. I know your dad is Billie Joe Armstrong, Your mother is Adrienne Nesser and your brother is Jakob." The girl said in a quiet voice.

"You do? Why aren't you telling everyone? Why didn't you talk to me sooner?" Joey asked confused.

"Well since you didn't say it straight away I realized you probably don't want anyone to know. And if everyone knew you'd get all these fan posers using you and no one deserves that. I didn't talk to you straight away because you're adjusting and probably want to hang out with the boys" Hayley stated

"Yeah. And thanks..." Joey replied.

***

After a prank and detention it was now lunchtime. Hayley and Joey were just talking and laughing when the second resident Green Day fan came up. Except this girl was a bit of a different fan. She had to prove to everyone she was obsessed with Green Day. She tried to look like a bigger fan than Hayley but always miserably failed.

"Hi." She stated.

"Hi." Hayley said back eyeing to her to Joey to her to Joey

"Who's the new kid?" She asked.

"Joey." Hayley said shortly.

"Oh okay." She said and walked off.

And she says she's more obsessed than Hayley at Green Day!

"You seem shocked," Joey said blankly to her.

So Hayley explained the whole situation and before they both knew it the bell went and there was 2 classes left.

***

"We finish early on Mondays and Wednesdays. Were the only year 8 class that finishes late on Tuesday god dammit" Hayley said to Joey while walking out of their last class.

Then there was silence as they went to their lockers.

"Be careful of that locker by the way. It's what I call "the haunted locker" " Hayley said to Joey.

"What. Why?" Joey asked curious.

"In 6 months 6 people have had that locker and moved out. Look I even wrote that in it" Hayley said pointing to a bit in messy handwriting that said Haunted locker. Beware. Ooooh

Joey just laughed and put his stuff in.

"I hated it the most when this really popular girl was in it. She asked me to swap with her friend and I said no. And all these popular jerks would hang around and it was irritating" Hayley said.

When everything was packed Hayley asked

"How are you getting home?"

"Oh my mom is picking me up." He said.

They both made their way to the parent's car park.

"My mum is too. I live too far to walk" Hayley said and spotted her mum's car just as Joey noticed his.

"Well see ya tomorrow!" Hayley yelled and jumped into her mum's car.

"He seems nice. Who is he?" Her mum asked.

"Oh the new kid. I know what it's like being the new kid here." Hayley smirked and her mum drove off

***

Joey's dad Billie Joe was home when he got home.

"Hey buddy. How was your first day at an Australian school?" Billie Joe asked his son ruffling his hair.

"Really good. Surprisingly no one knew who I was. And I met this really cool girl." Joey told his dad.

"Ooooh" His dad replied.

"No! Not like that! She's an awesome girl and an awesome friend. She knew who I was right from the start and is a massive fan of you guys. But she didn't talk to me straight away. She said she wanted me to adjust and she's so nice. But I don't like her like that." Joey said sneering at his dad's words.

"It's good you like it" Billie smiled at Joey who returned it.
